The PS3 when used as a computer

The AP examines the non-game playing features of the PS3 including Blu-ray playback, connecting a PSP, wireless networking, downloading games, and chatting with friends (or "computer" for short). The article rates each feature by usability, value, and setup difficulty both praising and critiquing the multimedia offering. In a paragraph: "Some of the console's extracurricular features are as knuckle-bitingly frustrating as actually procuring one of these hard-to-find systems ... Meanwhile, other PS3 fortes, such as playing Blu-ray discs and downloading retro PS1 games, are gloriously uncomplicated."

yeah, just like the psp the ps3's primary use will not be for playing proper games! people will use it to store their multimedia onto, play homebrew and mess about with linux before realising they have a perfectly good windows pc in their house!

Well, one would hope that playing Blu-ray discs would be ucomplicated when all you do is place the disc in the PS3 and play it :P

hahaha @ #2. yea, like inserting a disc into a disc drive was ever complicated and now it is made easy with the ps3. same thing with downloading retro games......jeez, it's always been so complicated with the 360 and wii. I think I'll go buy a ps3 now since its so easy to do on the ps3!!! Wii60 FTW!!!

It would be a lot easier to use a PS3 as a PC substitute
(of sorts) if Sony would support VGA with the damn thing...anyone using a PS3 with a PC monitor? Don't you have to have an HDCP-compliant diplay? I've read online that just using a HDMI to DVI converter might not work properly.
Meanwhile the 360 is very monitor-friendly, with the MS VGA cable...

I just want SONY to fail miserably with the BS3, that way they can just concentrate on making better LCD displays for cheaper. Then I can play GOW on a 1080P Sony!

yeah #7 that would be the best I'm sure. If by that you mean the only console MS would have to worry about is the nintendo. I can see them giving us great games if all they have to worry about is craptacular games.

@burninhell: I use a HDMI-DVI cable for my TV and can run movies at 1080i (TV doesn't do 1080p) with no problems.

@11 Pretty sure they did. I mean, original Xbox was pretty close.. and didn't Microsoft buy up WebTV and release it under their MSN brand?

I don't know about all that much about installing Linux on the PS3, or using it as a computer. Haven't tried it myself. I've been too busy playing Resistance...

you can say all you want about the ps3 you x box 360 fans but in the end you know almost every game for x box etc came out for pc while ps3 created it's own ..which is a pc now ? =P ps3 will win all the way simply cause of games..bottom line.. if you have a pc x box is crappy .. and your best choice is ps3 or wii ..if you dont.. then go for xbox 360 but dont get sad when u get a delay of game titles that pc already has like battlefield 2142 great game =D watch it come out a year from now to you =P i just checked and 360 only has battlefield 2 so far.. enjoy your out dated system! =P
