Crime spree hits New England game stores
Investigators believe that the theft of $20,000 in systems and games from a Hooksett, N.H., EBGames could be connected to a string of similar thefts across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The thieves are targeting Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems because intense interest is driving high resale values according to a report from the Concord Monitor.Detective Matt Fleming warned that thieves may soon expand their focus from stores to homes with new systems, warning owners to "secure them in your homes as best you can." We wouldn't be too worried though -- according to an AP report the thieves in Hooksett "tried to steal the floor model PlayStation 3 ... but couldn't get into the metal cabinet housing it." Foiled... by a kiosk!

Yeah, they "may" also go on to bazooka 10 year old girls with long range heat seeking Nazi Moose Ninja guns, although i doubt it, so a nice bit of scare-mongering there Detective Flemming.
Why the F*CK would theives go from breaking into stores that could have potentially hundreds of units for them to pinch, to peoples homes where they might find 2 or 3 new systems at best ?
Also: FORREST FIRES ! and how THEY might kill YOU !

That's what we get for being willing to shell out over 500 bucks in next gen consoles.

Xbox 360 resell values are high? You wouldn't even be able to get MSRP for them on Ebay would you? It looks like they are getting less than the Wii. PS3 I can understand but why not target all three. These guys are really stupid and I bet they get caught.

Do the kiosk units even play retail games?

"6. Do the kiosk units even play retail games?"
If they are what i think they are, not only do they play retain games, they also play burned cds, dvds and bluray disks

Funny, I have yet to see an operational PS3 kiosk...

Remember when you steal something it cost you ZERO. So even if they sell it (x360) on Ebay for 150 bucks, that's 150 dollar profit.

all these rubbery and thief should be blame to Ebay.
if there isn't Ebay, who would rub a EBgames.

I was assuming they could only care so much and pound per pound it would make more sense to fill an empty 360 box with games rather stealing the system itself Plus given the current ebay prices they should have targetting Wii and PS3 not 360 and PS3 as the article stated. I should have been a little clearer with my point.

Wow... that's one of my regular stores... it's where I got my preordered Wii and PS3! I was just in yesterday and they certainly didn't say anything about it. Guess it's business as usual even after a huge robbery. >_>
Adam @ Dec 14th 2006 3:01PM
Funny thing is that the visible PS3 in its kiosk is just an empty shell.
NoHitHair @ Dec 15th 2006 6:22AM
Is it a secret that the PS3 kiosks don't actually have a real PS3 in the see through glass, but below it in a locked part of the base?
Oops. Gee, I sure hope it wasn't.
