I agree with #1. I just love Gears, but there are a few issues that can be fixed so easily it drives me insane.

Now if they would just make a party system for ranked games... Or at least not kick me all the way out the main menu every Fing time! And give the lame, "This is ranked, as such you cannot play again with the same group..." BS. This really sucks if you've got a good party for some T-Hunt... It's hard to start with strangers everytime, when you only have one shot to get it right.

I think that the audio/voice thing is something that every 360 game has had problems with. Gears and Rainbow six being the two most infamous. If anything, these games are just showing a problem that, hopefully, will be fixed for all online games. And I think people need to stop complaining about patches. Halo 2? They've had tons of patches, the first one completely changing multiplayer and game dynamics...

Xbox Live by default does not support ranked clan matches. That has to be custom coded by the developer. In other words, you'll never see it on Vegas. Halo 3 will have it though.

since the inclusion of a HDD in a game console became pretty much the standard it seems like games are being released with a little less quality control than they used to.
it's interesting that companies seem to think it's ok to fix a product with multiple patches after release rather than to make sure it's right before it's out the door.

i've actually quit buying most games at the release date and just wait until the inevitable "fix" to be released for download before i consider the game to be purchasable.

Off Subject. Can somebody explain the problems with the Wireless Headset. I have heard of issues, but nothing specific. Thanks in advance!

# 6...hard drive did not make devs lazy, online console gaming made things more complex. There are few single player patches, most issues are in online gaming. WHen you are dealing with a AAA title, testing online can be tough because you need to keep a limited number of testers (to avoid media leaks, etc), and at that, a lot of the in house testing is simulated Xbox Live. The serversa aren't dealing with millions of players worldwide. Ps2 online has its issues even withouth a hard drive. Also regarding single player glitches...games are a lot more complex now, developing them is expensive enough, finding every little glitch in house would extend the dev time. Be greatful for the Halo 3 beta, its going to make things better for launch day.

I have mixed feelings about the new prevalence of release-now-patch-later games on consoles. On the one hand, I sympathize with the frustration of having a product not work as you expect right out of the box. On the other hand, I think it'll help a lot of developers retain some sanity by allowing them to have handful of "minor" issues to go into a release game. Game development is a damn stressful business, especially at major deadlines.

People call companies that release games and then release patches a couple weeks later "lazy," but most developers are already working like mad. I see the patch system as a temporary pressure release valve for the predominantly overworked, rather than a chance to get away with slacking.

@7

No, TrueSkill doesn't provide devs with a party system, so if they want to do a party system, they can't use TrueSkill. If they don't use TS then they can do whatever the hell they want. A la Halo 2 and soon Shadowrun, and of course Halo 3.

#11, some people have connectivity issues with early wireless controllers.

Many feel this may be user error during setup and start up. There may be other issues as well.

I took the change and got a wireless headset. I have a launch premium x360 with two early wireless controllers. I followed the directions to sync with the console, and have had no issues whatsoever.

Voice quality both to and from is improved, battery life is very long, range is excellent, and it has full functionality with no controller even turned on. Far less troubles for me than with the included wired sets.

Absolutely no regrets and recommended.

@ Deez

It drops connection, only reaches about (maybe) half the distance that the wireless controller does, makes a feedback noise that others hear, and doesn't sync with launch controllers... Other than that it's perfect!

I do love mine when it's working though....

I'd have to agree that the patching is caused by online difficulties. Vegas singleplayer worked like a charm out of the box, so did Gears, so did GRAW and PGR3 and all the other games that I've played. The only thing I've ever seen patched is multiplayer, and honestly, I can forgive that.

Very happy with the patch btw, no more "can you hear me now?" moments while terrorists are breathing down your neck.

Still experiencing the "jackhammer" sound.
Like someone's machine gun is stuck and you can hear it throughout the map. VERY obnoxious and annoying.
