Anyone found the UK/EU version of this page? Or this only applying to America (seeing as thats where most of the broken tvs are from...)

I like how there's 40 comments that are outraged that people are giving Nintendo some slack, and only like two comments that are actually giving Nintendo slack. Fanboys are funny.

And again, it's a piece of string. Not a bricked console. Or a pack of lies.

Guys? Am I the only one who noticed it's not a recall? It's a free replacement.

In a recall they take all the broken stuff back in and fix/replace it, usually to avoid or comply with a lawsuit.

In this situation they're simply mailing free wriststraps to anyone with a valid Wii product key. They probably wouldn't be sued and not many people have actually broken their strap anyway.

Not really the same thing.

That's part of the problem -- some people get so immersed playing with the Wii that they stop treating it as a video game and think they need to do the full-strength real-world motions... and not holding on to the controller as a result.

But to say Nintendo is somehow at fult for people being too enthusiastic is silly. You might as well say Sony is also liable because the PS3 controllers are wireless and overenthusiastic players may throw them into something fragile. Luckily for PS3 owners, the current games are too dull to induce Wii-levels of excitement... ;-)

I dont care if it is 240i if the games are fun. I dont want to watch a movie, i want to play a game. Also i am not a pale-skinned, zit infested, shut in living in my moms basement.

I have a condo in the OC, a wife and friends and i want it to be fun for them too. Hence why i haven't bought a system since n64. Fun & 4 player is the way to go.

If i lived in the midwest and had no friends, then i would measurebate over resolutions.

Not to mention a large percentage of people are not using their 360s on HDTV, not sure about PS3s.

I believe I smell some of that infamous OC attitude (I'm familiar with that pungent smell of smugness - I used to live there). Try to step away from the superiority complex for a moment and join us here in the real world. Now I remember why I moved away...

P.S. I agree it's all about the gameplay - and I don't even live in SoCal (gasp)! The Wii is the best console I've ever played, 480p and all.

It seems like everyone is trying to get fanboys to admit that Nintendo screwed up. why?

Isn't it implicit in the fact that they were recalling wrist straps?

Nintendo made straps as they thought sufficient. They made a mistake/screwed up. people were a lot rougher on them. They fixed the issue. Hopefully for the people that can prove legitimate losses they will be compensated for their damage.

No doubt there will be a class action lawsuit for the people breaking their own TVs and punching their girlfriends in the face while drunk.

I just recently got notified of a class action lawsuit against apple for a 5 year old monitor/display. Turns out i am entitled to $400 bucks. But since i chucked the old one when it broke the second time, i dont think i will claim the money. Water under the bridge. they have made other great products, no sense in nickel and diming the companies.

Who cares if N eats a couple million.

Bricked consoles and lies don't break tvs or phsyically injure people...

Hehe, I really have nothing to add to this blog posting, I just wanted to make a funny quip at miniboss there. ZING! I think Nintendo is doing the right thing here. I don't think they should be applauded or condemned for it. What they are doing is what I expect of any company that makes a mistake.

I haven't thrown my remote or anything, but my freaking strap was already fraying right out of the wii console box.
Accidents happen, I don't see why everybody who accidentally flings one is automatically a retard.

I agree with Aex. Nintendo isn't doing anything good or bad, they're doing what they're supposed to do. Unfortunately, that's rare in the video game industry now. So maybe Nintendo should be applauded for this. Sony and Microsoft might see that keeping customers happy is the way you make money.

You're not stating fact unless you know (1) how much Nintendo will make on all the Wii consoles sold and (2) how much Nintendo will lose as a result of this wave of replacements. Of course it will cost them some profit, but to claim "all" is absurd. And keep in mind, it's NOT a recall. You will receive a new Wii strap only if you actually ask for one, which means that the total number given out will be significantly lower.

What kind of fool can't hold on to thier controller as they play? All these strap problems are showing the atrophy that occurs when you eat nothing but cheese nips and Bawls energy drink. Swing a 2 pound (if that much, correct me if you may fanboys) controller for an hour or so and your grip grows slack. You're not really trying to knock someone out, you're playing a game.....slow it down spaz.

I'm well aware that nintendo is after my money but all you people who say thay are exactly the same as Sony and MS are wrong. The difference is in their philosophies about customer service MS and Sony seem to believe in the if it breaks and we don't help them they'll buy a new one and make more money philosophy and Nintendo seems to be more we'll help our customers out and make them happy and they will keep buying our stuff in the future philosophy. I personally have good experiences with Nintendo's customer service and a really bad experience with MS's. For the first time this generation I bought a console at launch guess which one. This decision wasn't entirely influenced by my customer service experience but it did have something to do with it knowing that if I had a problem I would be taken care of. The way Nintendo deals with customers means everyone wins and Sony and MS just might be better off following their lead.
