It's like making a bike illegal because you crashed it while riding a full speed on a busy sidewalk. Sometimes, the consumer needs to be a little more responsible.

Yes, the cord should have been stronger. But if you're flailing around your living room like a maniac, what did you honestly expect to happen? Put anything in your hand and act like some of these people do when playing the Wii and you've got a recipe for disaster.

I drop my TV remote all the time :o infact now the vlume buttons don't work on it. Maybe I should sue the tv brand for not includign a strap :o

Case and point, Nintendo included hte strap as a safety precaution, not a finite solution to flying wiimotes. Anything cna break over time if you put enough force on it. Self Control is what is needed.

"we still think think the perception"

I do that all the time! Damn twitchy twitchy fingers!

As for the article, this is just getting silly! I mean seriously, you don't even NEED to wing the remote around like crazy. Simple flicks of the wrist work on most games... except Raving Rabbids, that game has you pumping your hands up and down like crazy.

But come on, even if you do launch your Wiimote into a friend's eye thats not Nintendo's fault, even IF the strap breaks. But it is nice to see Nintendo replacing them with thicker straps.

@3 Brad Lee - I am to assume you have a Wii, if so, then perhaps you know that the "Simple flicks of the wrist" work fine, but are reserved for shooters and zelda. I know personally when we got Wii sports happening in front of my 50" TV we move the coffee table and get right into it. We know simple wrist flicks work, but it's not the same.

the media has a hard on for making the wii look bad. Check out this link from nintendo dojo to see how weak the wiimote strap really is.

I don't understand all the hype in the media about this. I think some people are just having too much fun with the idea and making fake pictures about it all. There is no way you can even accidently throw the remote around unless you're being exceptionally careless. Unless you don't have a strong grip on the remote, you won't throw it.

I wonder, out of the few instances where there truly has been an accident or a thrown remote, how many people were actually using the strap. I actually tried throwing the remove with the strap on, and the strap kept it from flying off rather easily.

Just keep a damp cloth or pail of chalk dust near your Wii playing area so you can prep your hand as if you're bowling or a billiards cue. Also, football quarterbacks often moisten their fingertips by touching them to their tongues.

Good! Nintendo deserves some of this. They made a crappy strap, and they deserve to be ridiculed, it's not the customer's product that the safety precaution is made out of dental floss.
Everyone bags on Sony, even though the PS3 is the best made console from a hardware standpoint. No surprise, Sony makes hardware. Soooooo few have failed on their owners, but MS keeps breaking 360 consoles to this day.

The media has got to stop pulling this favouritism crap. Watch as they all jump ship and proclaim PS3 the winner long after its obvious. "We told you all along" they'll say.

I just don't get it! I've got just about every Wii launch game and my remote hasn't gone flying around the house. I've played, my wife played, hell my 6yr old got in on the action guess what? No broken straps, injuries, etc. My knives in my kitchen don't have straps, yet no one gets cut, or no one lets go of the knives. I've got an idea settle down a little bit. Don't get loaded drunk before you play and wear the strap properly. They show you how in the books, tv, even before you even play a game, it give you safety instructions. How about not letting go of the controller either. At least act like you have opposible thumbs. Lastly, if you and your friends are acting stupid, just own up to it and quit acting like its Nintendo's fault, because as far as I remember there have been no E3, Fusion tour, are even at your local GAMESTOP people are throwing remote around and hurting people and breaking furniture and stuff. Only when their at home does it seem to (straps magically breaking)happen. Something smells fishy!!! I bet if they played the way they play at home, at thier local gamestop they'd be thrown out immediatly. Funny all these stories are coming out of America. Not Europe or Japan. Hell one girl even made the mistake of saying her Wii strap broke and ruined her screen, but in the picture she's wearing the wrist strap. Hhhhmmmmm?

@ Foetoid

Actually I pretty much just use flicks of the wrist in Wii Sports too. I just find it easier to control that way. I can't put any spin on the ball in Wii Tennis with a full swing, but I can put some crazy spin on it with just a flick of the wrist.

Of course in Baseball and Bowling I tend to use full swings, but ultimately my point was that most games don't need full motions and so a thicker wrist strap shouldn't really be necessary. People just need to learn how to control themselves!

"How am I going to sell that piece of $ony cr*! on ebay now?"

You say it was chosen by the gods.

Ok, my wii strap is working fine and dandy, and even if i do get a bit wild in some games, i still maintain a pressure that keeps it from fleeing wildly from my hands. and depending on the game you are playing, you will sometimes have the nunchuck there to keep it tethered to yourself.

people are just fools :\
