People actually enjoy WATCHING others play a video game? Professional sports are entertaining, I just can't believe that there's actually a market for PRO gamers. Frankly when people are now spending their free time watchign other play games (not just playing games themselves) then things have gone very long for their social lives...Unless of course I'm totally off base with how pro gaming works.

its fascinating to see how someone reacts in certain situtations in games such as halo 2. Its like a chess game but with high powered weapons.

Actually, pro gaming is a big deal in Korea. The top gamers are all national celebrities and can't go out on the streets without getting mobbed. They have game channels and people talk about the latest pro games like people in the US talk about what great play Peyton Manning did last Sunday. Game rooms are everywhere and it's totally cool to take your girlfriend on a date to play Starcraft for 6 hours. I'm not making this up. There was a big article about it in the New York Times a couple months ago which you can google.

It's pretty interesting to see two pro teams go at it in Halo. Some of the most heated and competitive battles.

I'm still not convinced. I'll stick to watching hockey and playing Halo.

The show they have on USA on Saturday mornings is fairly entertaining- if you're a Halo 2 geek. The announcing is good, the video is superb, and the cheese factor is zero. It reminds me of the world series of poker when it first blew up. Not that Halo 2 videos will experience the same, but hey, it's cool if you know Halo 2.

The New York Times is a load. I've heard specifically of people who've been to Korea for Starcraft, and it's not THAT big. It has it's own community, the average working guy won't know boxer on the street if he ran circles around him. And only people like boxer get occassionaly mobbed, everyone else is esentially just another face on the street.
