The final eBay prices for PS3 are at or just above retail.. those poor saps looking to cash in arent getting much for their troubles, esp. after eBay gets their cut. Its especialy bad for 20 gb hawkers.

If you can find one local or with over night shipment, eBay is the place to be for PS3s.

I went to GameStop on Tuesday and asked when they thought it would be easy enough to get a PS3. They told me to check back the next day because they were getting a shipment in. I call on Wednesday and sure enough they had some in stock. They were only the 60Gig models though. This was at 2 different GameStops in Colorado. Needless to say I am now an owner of a PS3. I just don't know how proud I am of that. I wish it had been the Wii!

I feel bad for all these people standing out in the freezing cold only to walk away with no system....that takes balls cuz I'd sure as hell never do it unless my chances of getting one were 100%.

I pre-ordered my Xbox 360, 6 months ahead of time, paid it all off in about 2 months, went to Game Crazy at around 10 o'clock (no waking up early!) the day they came out, and I was the first person there....got handed everything I pre-ordered and left....took less than 5 minutes. Now, that's how you get a console.

Umm. Long Beach, CA (southernmost city is LA county). The walmarts around me always seem to have at least one or two ps3's for sale. Walmart shoppers seem too busy to notice them since they sold out on launch day. I have three wii's. Anybody want one for $350?

I went in search of a Wii yesterday and ended up walking out of Target with a PS3 60gb.

I could not find anything on the shelf I wanted to play, that I didn't have on the 360. I really would've liked a Wii but I figured I'd get the PS3 for BluRay and some games.

It is sitting at home, unopened, and I will be returning it tonight. I'll get the HD-DVD for the 360 and wait for a Wii.

Maybe I'll buy a PS3 sometime next year. Personally, I'm a little skeptical on its success. We'll see.

I did think about eBay, but watching those auctions shows that people are not making a killer profit. Honestly, I'd rather take it back than have to deal with the post office this time of the year. :)

Over the Wii who is out-supplying it by more than 10 to 1?!?!

Wow, Sony might be in more trouble than I thought...

You're being deceived. The PS3 boxes are empty. Ask them, I already tried to by one from the one downtown, on Carson, and at Towne Center. Its stupid for them to have empty boxes in the display like that.

Looking at the last 50 completed auctions for the PS3:

17 sold
33 not sold

15 of the 17 that sold were the 60GB version. The average sold price was around $650 for the console only.

Hardly worth camping out for.

WOW, that's freakin' awesome. I actually work at that Best Buy. We had 21 Wiis. I couldn't line up there because I was an employee, so I decided to line up at the Target down the street. Most of us guessed that Target would have more than 8. The damn manager didn't have the balls to tell the line they only had 8. Another manager comes out at 6AM and announces that they only have 8 units, pissing off the entire line.

Colma Target needs to get their sh** together. On PS3 launch day, they said no one could line up until 10PM. Guess what? More than 300 people stacked up in their parking lot. To make it worse, a riot almost started, and they kicked everybody off their premises. They said, "Come back tomorrow, we'll sell it at 10AM." Apparently, they sold it at 4AM to avoid the trouble.

Really guys, if you live in the SF/Daly City area, shop at the Serramonte Target, at least they know how to treat their customers better.

That is exactly what is happening...I have had three chances to buy a PS3 and none for a Wii.

Here is something really funny though. Two weeks ago I waited in line at target for a Wii. When the manager came out he said they did not have any. He said he did have several 60gig PS3's though. There were about 30-40 people in line.....EVERY ONE of them left.

Picked up a PS3 also off the shelf last week at best buy and sold it to a friend for face value as ebay profits blow from it, but they are available off the shelf. Best buy says they trickle in every day. Now the Wii, that is a different story.

Two guys showed up from Circuit City line about 7:00 and said Circuit City only got 4 Wiis. At 7:30, a manager from Target came out and said they got 0.

I happened to be in a Wal-Mart on Friday and they had a couple PS3s in stock, i.e. there was no weekend stockpiling at that location. However, all of them were purchased by the time they finished ringing up my sale.

BTW... "Over the Wii who is out-supplying it by more than 10 to 1?"
A) You have any reference to those ratios?
B) Nintendo has already announced they aren't meeting their production projections. I personally think that is extra-embarassing given that they're using a die-shrunk chip from 5 years ago and a lot of off-the-shelf parts.
C) The PS3 I purchased had no pack in movie, so there are at least 500,001 systems out there...

Memo to Sony: if your online strategy is "We do everything Xbox Live does, but cheaper!" you've got a loooong way to go, from stability to functionality to usability to just about everything.

I really don't understand the people waiting in line for 24 hours. If you look at it in strict economic terms their time has to be almost nothing to make that worth it. Wiis on eBay are going for $50-$100 over retail - find a reputable seller, suck it up and just buy one. You won't have to pay taxes so even after shipping you'll only be around $80 over what you'd pay in most states. Is waiting in line, freezing, losing sleep, getting stressed when you don't get one, etc worth it? Just to save $80?

I drove to Target on launch day, saw the line and promptly turned around and went home. The next day I bought a Wii, Zelda and a retro controller for $400 on eBay. I paid $50 to have it overnighted (yeah I'm that impatient). To me the extra hundred I paid was well worth it - my time is worth much more than $5/hour to wait in the cold. Plus there's always the value of my time playing Zelda over the holidays... ah reminds me of my youth.

I found 2 20GB PS3s last night at a WalMart near the Oklahoma border. The employees told me they didn't have any, but I insisted they check. She came back with one that literally had dust on it. Apparently, they misplaced them and assumed they had been sold out. Scoreboard!

Got a source for that? The last thing I heard was Nintendo was outstripping their manufacturing goals. That was a long time ago, but I haven't heard anything to the contrary since.

I was in Circuit City yesterday at the service desk trading one upconverting DVD player for another when the guy behind the counter asks me if I'd like the real thing. Real thing I ask? He says Blu-Ray and proceeds to pull a PS3 out from under the counter. He said it was returned today and I ask "Why? They didn't like the games?".

The guy says "No it's unopened. We received 4 returns today all unopened. They probably were trying to sell them on eBay but they're not going for much profit now."

This was at Bailey'S Crossroads in Northern VA last nite around 8:45pm.

Funny, Sony said their production problems were resolved and they were still on track for 2 million by year end-- however as with anything Sony says these days, I'll believe it when I see it.

I think it boils down to shipping. The initial allotment was sent air, which is expensive, and further contributes to any debt the system has occured prior to finally selling the console.

By the time consoles are available in quantity, they'll be shipped via ship (or rail) or anything but air, which is cheaper, but takes a while.

I'm thinking we really won't see any quantity in the US until January or February.

Such is the problem you encounter with a worldwide launch. You try to please everyone but end up not pleasing the majority. It's a practice on the paper that sounds great, but I've yet to see a successful launch with it.

Ironically, while finding out how many Wii's my local EB was getting, the manager told me he had an unsold PS/3 if I wanted it. It took me a few seconds, but ultimately I declined. I don't want a PS/3. Not at current prices. And even if I could resell it on Ebay, I just didn't feel right about doing that. I hate the resell mania and don't feel like contributing to it.

Despite the good karma I earned from passing up the PS/3, I struck out on the Wii Sunday morning.

My wife and I went to K-Mart to do some Christmas shopping. As we were walking up an isle towards the electronics dept. My wife decided we should go look for a couple more gifts before we go to electronics. I agreed with her and so we went. We finally made it to the electronics dept and lo and behold there was a Wii in the case behind the counter. There wasn't anyone behind the counter. I decided to stand there and wait thinking this is my lucky day. Finally the K-mart employee came walking from the back of the electronics dept with another customer. The other guy wound up buying the Wii and I was left standing there empty handed. So close yet so far away.

The Game Stops here and Bozeman MT had Wiis in earlier this week BUT WERE TOLD BY THEIR MANAGEMENT THEY WOULD BE FIRED IF THEY SOLD THEM BEFORE SUNDAY!!!! One ended up with 6 the other GS had 2!!!! Corporate wanted a big event, but they just ended up with pissed off customers who'd spent 4 hours in line

I sooooooo despised this market manipulation and ARTIFICIAL shortage, my son almost got a 360 from Costco for xmas because neither the manufacturer or the retailer in that situation was playing that game.

If you work for weasels, they'll make you act like weasels.

In the end I was lucky enough to get the Wii which was a good thing because we're a Mac house/office and I don't give money to MS easily!!! lol

I don't understand why this shortage has occurred. I preordered my Wii in October and when I showed up to EBGames to pick up the Wii, the guy was handing out tickets. I asked him, what's going on? He told me he received *80 freaking units*, about 65 more than the original allotment. You people really should have got it on launch date...there were tons of units for everyone.

I kinda regret not turning my Wii around and selling it....oh well, Zelda is freaking awesome.
