Bungie talks Halo 3 documentary, Brutes
Posting on NeoGAF, Bungie mouthpiece Frankie denied rumors that Brutes will be playable in Halo 3, and he did so again in Bungie's most recent weekly update. Writing from a coffee shop (the only spot in town with power), Frankie explained that the Brutes' role will be enhanced in the third Halo; specifically, Brutes will be made "more exciting, clever, graphically impressive, terrifying, numerous and angrier" -- but absolutely not playable.Frankie also confirmed that a documentary video will hit Xbox Live this week, ostensibly focusing on Halo 3's Campaign mode. And, in an effort not to deny potential Xbox 360 owners, Bungie promised to make the video available for all to see -- not that the alternative is even conceivable (hint: it's called 'YouTube').

Thank God. If Halo 2 taught us anything, it's that playing as characters that aren't interesting sucks.

#2: The Arbiter as a character was infinitely more interesting than the Chief. At least, the Chief's portrayal so far in the actual games. The novels do him more justice, but those are the novels.

Gotta love people's uncanny ability to coat their relative tastes as an undeniable fact.

My word! Well I'm glad I'm a Nintnedo fan. I absolutely abhor donkey phallus, especially dirty donkey phallus.

Silkylove, I concur.

Get off it fanboiez ... Halo 2 is still the best game ever there is no other game save Resistance that even come close. If your not a player ... good keep going on with your ignorance... live your sheltered lives. I will be playing Halo 3 as soon as it comes out and loving it.
brogan @ Dec 19th 2006 7:04AM
Can't say that i have any opinion on donkey member clean or otherwise as i have never found one in any orifice of my body which is clearly strange as i did enjoy halo.

Not to start a flamewar. But your "Fanboys Out" statement followed by your "I buy and play the game on day 1 no matter what Bungie codes" line makes you a fanboy aswell.
And I like to add that the Halo series is not the greatest on the planet for everyone, some people may like "Hello Kitty Island Adventure" way more then walking around and killing aliens :).
And yes you'll find me on the Halo3 multiplayer maps, so see you in my crosshair (+). I just hope they add a good single player (co-op over live) campain and that the online part lasts longer this time around ... It got old pretty fast, and I'm not talking for myself here, our whole clan switched games when the ring world was flooded with all the cheaters and modders out there.
Tristan @ Dec 19th 2006 8:40AM
Yeah please don't start any wars. They are really pointless they may be fun, but each system has its ups and downs. I like the ps3 having a web browser and I would like the 360 to have it also. The ps3 doesn't have the online the 360 has, but in a few years they may just stop with the wars it must stop.

I'd love to be a brute... The more the merrier!
I'm glad to see their getting a little more focus, at least.
SuicideNinja @ Dec 19th 2006 11:44AM
I'd love to play as anything but the Chief. He's boring. If sniping wasn't so damn easy in Halo, I'd go back to being an Elite in a second.
Hell, give us Grunt playability. Or even better, Flood. Or screw the Covenant alltogether and bring in ALIENS and Predators. LOL
I hope more than anything that they make sniping up to par with other FPS games. You know, breathing movement, reducing the effectiveness of "the swipe trick", etc.

Halo has one of the best video game stories ever made, and ties into the Marathon Series. Its like the star wars of video games. Everything in the series has a purpose, unlike the repetative Final Fantasies, Metal Gear Solids, Devil May Cries, Resident Evils, Tomb Raiders..etc...
This game fallows one major story, and it unfolds and twists with every game with so many secret Such as:
Who Are the Forerunners?
Where are the Other Spartans?
Is Johnson a Spartan I ?
What was that thing that opened up in the trailer?
What happened to the Covenent and there faction?
Where is the cheif headed on that forerunner ship?
Are the Elites with the Humans?
Whats going on with Cortana?
What is Graveminds purpose?
How does the Chief pull off his bad-ass-osidy?
Plus everything that happens in the game has a reference to revalations in the Bible, which adds in making the story seem real.
I cant wait for Halo 3

***WARNING***
the following answers consist of me talking out of my ass.
Who Are the Forerunners?
an ancient race of man, not unlike the atlantians
Where are the Other Spartans? On an unnamed earth-like planet that serves as a training facility like Reach.
Is Johnson a Spartan I ? yes and no. There were many oni projects before the spartan program that made attempts to alter the human physiology. Most of them failed, with the subjects either dying or becoming disfigured. however some subjects lived. sgt johnson also has the only documented case of borens syndrome in the halo universe.
What was that thing that opened up in the trailer? the arc of the covenant
What happened to the Covenent and there faction? I assume you mean the forerunners, in which case only the gravemind and guilty sparks know.
Where is the cheif headed on that forerunner ship? earth, with the flood in tow.
Are the Elites with the Humans?
no, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Whats going on with Cortana?
A LOT.
What is Graveminds purpose? it is the coordination intelligence for the flood. Think of the flood as ants and the gravemind as their queen.
***SPOILER ALERT***
How does the Chief pull off his bad-ass-osidy? At the end of Halo 3, the chief pulls off his helmet to reveal that John spartan 117 is no other than Jules Winnfield.

"Halo has one of the best video game stories ever made, and ties into the Marathon Series."
Emphasis on video game story. Compared to any other narrative medium, the Halo story is garbage. To claim otherwise is to reveal how poorly read someone is.
"Plus everything that happens in the game has a reference to revalations in the Bible, which adds in making the story seem real."
The obtuse literary allusions in Halo are mostly from the book of Genesis, not Revelations. And those allusions hardly make the story anymore literary. Rather they allow those reared on pop-culture to think they are experiencing a more sophisticated story than is really there, like with The Matrix.
Bill @ Dec 20th 2006 3:20AM
MGS story is a total joke. I mean seriously, the dialogue is beyond a joke. The only reason people say it's good is because it's exclusive to Sony.
It's just funny that people pretend Kojima is more than a awful b-movie hack. The story is even ripped straight from shitty Kurt Russell movies of the 80's.
ill trooper @ Dec 20th 2006 7:55AM
"...Rather they allow those reared on pop-culture to think they are experiencing a more sophisticated story than is really there, like with The Matrix."
Thank you. Agreed. How many times do I have to read someone saying 'it ties in to the Bible' as though that makes it good, somehow? Like Halo is less-derivative than Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, all the other franchises you mentioned... But reference the Bible, it'll make people too afraid to even whisper that the ideas are derivitive. Like you'll have the Wrath of God™ lowered on you if you question seeing the ol' Ark of the Covenant Gag for the umpteenth time?
But don't think on that too hard! if someone hears you were questioning biblical references, you might go to hell! Better play it safe and talk about Master Chief Jesus allusions!
Look, it's a fun story, and you like it, but it's very watered-down and derivaive too - in other words, enjoy it, but don't slam other people's tastes for Final Fantasy or Metal Gear....
I find the stories in the Metal Gear games far more interesting and less repetive than Halo, but I don't mind hearing that you liking Halo more, because that is your OPINION, and I have mine. Different people thinking different things. Wow.
Karttikeya @ Dec 20th 2006 8:22PM
Halo Haters...fuck off.
Go away and play some SOCOM or Clubhouse games. The best multiplayer games too offer on a nonMSFT platform.
Dante @ Dec 27th 2006 4:28AM
Honestly doon't even compare MGS to this they're not even in the same genre of games. MGS beats this pile of crap any day and I play Halo 2 as well but honestly it can't be compared to MGS.
