the cheapest way to get some hd gaming on is to look in your local classifieds for a 21(bigger is possible)inch crt monitor. i got one for $50 AUD which is like $30US. Then pick up a ps3 vga cable and you have a cheapo hd setup. Works great.

Oh! I should clarify -- this is the TV at my parent's house. The one back at my apartment is a super-big HDMI ready HDTV. I'll have to snag the HDMI cable upon my return to college. Until then, I'll behold the "magic of color television"... or so this old TV claims. See ya later!

Do yourself a favor and import MotorStorm from Play-Asia. After Resistance, it's the only reason to currently own a PS3.

I agree with noha. I have a 24" dell that im usin for an HDTV, and the picture on it is better than any HD setup that I have seen so far. It's a little more than $50, but you can hook up a PS3 through the DVI and an HD box through the RGB's!!!!

Nick, considering how far most of us sit from our TV compared to our computer screens, I'd say the big text on webpages is good. Btw, when outputting on 720p or higher, the text gets unbelieveably small, esp. in the Playstation Store. I can't read anything unless I get about 4 feet away... maybe my eyes are bad, but I SWEAR it's impossible to read. When you output higher res, can't they enlarge the font to be consistent? Sorta like having the tiny font on a 24" Dell LCD except you're sitting 8 feet away...

Oh and congrats on getting your PS3 =) Aside from not having much game choice, the thing is so sexy smooth and gotta love the XMB. Live video thumbnail are amazing. And none of that browser lag the PSP has either.

You can change the size of the text in the browser by hitting triangle then going to VIEW then CHARACTER SIZE. Minus for smaller, plus for bigger. I am sure you get it.

Mitch,

I'm running what seems to be the same setup with the dell 2407W and have a question for ya.

I haven't been able to change the screen size of the monitor itself to 1080 when the PS3 is sending out a 1080p signal. It streches it to the native 1200 without letting me switch to a 1:1 (dot per dot) mapping. When watching most Blu-Ray discs it urks me to no end because the people start to look deformed. Dell tech support has been absolutely no help the two times I've called so far. The strange thing is with a 720p signal I can change it so it doesn't stretch it. I can make it aspect (fill the screen without stretching) but for some reason with a 1080 signal they disable the option. I was wondering if you noticed the same thing and had any luck?

Congrats on snagging a PS3. I feel you, it was difficult for me to get my hands on one too what was weird was how easy I was able to obtain one once I did. It's sad that you have to endure playing RFOM on that tiny screen. I am sure you can't wait to get back to your TV at home. I know it sounds lame but I was so determined to get a PS3 that I ended up totally upgrading my TV set just to better enjoy my PS3 (and the 360, yes I own one of those too). Over $2000 later I now have a 37" HDTV LCD supporting up to 1080i (i know I really wanted 1080p but it was so much more expensive) a 60GB PS3, two games (RFOM and Marvel: UA) an extra controller and an HDMI cable. I now need to invest in a 5.1 Dobly Digital Surround Sound System to compliment my new hardware and HDTV service (looking at DISH or Comcast)I am so broke this Christmas I am contemplating doing Christmas after Christmas when I get my commission check. I mean that is just a lot of money. Not to mention I bought the Wii as a Christmas gift for my best friend and am contemplating on getting iPod Nanos for my two younger brothers. To think I thought I was gonna spend less money this Christmas since I didn't have as many people to give to this year. Oh well. LOL BTW I played both the games on got on the PS3 before I got the HDMI cables and was totally not impressed but when I got that HDMI cable I was completely BLOWN AWAY! RFOM is just AMAZING!

What is the point of purchasing a PS3 if your going to use a standard monitor? Completely negates Blu-Ray and HD visuals and makes the PS3 no more than a glorified PS2.

Ah, I'm gettin' my PS3 today, and still have to get HD. Which, I'm expecting to get by the middle of next year. I have a 4 year old 27 inch SHARP. Just as long you get HD later, you'll be fine.

Tesla,

I hear you about dell support they are terrible. The only thing that I can suggest is trying to run the PS3 through your RGB's. If you have tried the master rest on the screen after you have your sony set to 1080p that is. If it is only on certain movies though I would say it's more to do with the movie then the screen. Let me know because It could very well be the digital input. It's reading that 1900 assumes that a graphics card is hooked to it which displays properly at 1900x1200. Like I said though, if it's only certain movies, you might have to suffer and watch those ones in 720p lol.

Happy viewing

I would like to know if any one with a PS3 after you bought it on launch week or the week after and you did your first firmware update annd your screen changed color just like on the PSP the PS3 I was told buy a Sony tech that it's changes by the month and certain hours four pazazzaz. I got my PS3 a week after launch and I did my first firmware update and it changed to a red background and darrk red XMB bar, at that time I did not know if it was the firmware that did it so I called Sony tech support the next day to ask them about the color change and Iturned on my PS3 before I called and it has turned back to the regular color XMB bar. I have talk to 2 level 1 tier techs and a supervisor and only the one tech said that when she was taught the PS3 system that it does change color each month and at different hours but could not tell me what time, even the supervisor didn't know the system did that. The one tech that told me it did said is it that important to you that it changed color in a Smart ass way and I said if it's suppose to do it like you told me it should then yes I expect that the for the $600.00 that Ipaid for it shold do everything that is built into it. So I asked to talk to alevel 2 tie tech and she said she would get some one to call me back in 3 to 5 days and I said are you kidding me why can't I talk to one now, and she said I have to go so you'll have to wait for a call back in 3 to 5 days. So I don't know if I have a bad unit so that's why I am asking if any one PS3 change color to the red back ground with a dark red XMB bar and when does it happen? Thanks to any one who can help me answer this PS3 color change.
