So basically, we're now in the honeymoon period for Wii developers, because as soon as those two games come out, alot of previous half-assed efforts are gonna look very, very lame indeed.

So Metroid went from being a launch title to being (probably) delayed a year? I swear, Nintendo, it'd better be the best game ever and have excellent online capabilities...

Not the happiest news on Earth, but not overly unexpected either.

Every system has a drought period right after launch.

- DS took a good year to take off after launch

- Xbox 360 is just NOW getting better titles and showing signs of taking off.

- PS3 "It's going to take a while to harness cell" = wait till FF13 and MSG4. (Due late in '07 or even '08 as well)

- PSP is still in it's drought with few signs of rain. It's survives by running PS1 and PS2 rain through a water treatment facility. ;)

In other words......while this is not what I wanted to hear....It's par for course in this industry. I'd still rather have the games done right than rushed out.

I'd be very surprised if they delayed both for so long. I'd expect Metroid in the March - May 2007 range and Mario in the September-December 2007 range. SSBB will be out Summer-Holidays 2008. Zelda Wii will likely come September-December 2009.

This would be a perfect staggering of Nintendo's heavy-hitter favorites, IMO. In the meantime, Ninty can try a bunch of new IPs, drop in the traditional Mario sports games (if they play anything like Wii Sports the Mario games will be HUGE), and let 3rd parties rule the roost for a while. Very smart if you ask me.

If this a rumor, as it appears that it is, could you label the news item appropriately? The title makes it look like this is fact, and then the article goes on to say that it's a rumor from 'sources' from CVG.

The ONLY reason I could see Metroid being delayed is that they working on the multiplayer net code....otherwise it sounds awfully fishy, especially considering how much they were showing it off during pre-launch. Mario, on the other hand, seems logical. They're fine-tuning the hell out of it, I suspect, to make it a real console-seller.

@ T-Man

I heard it wasn't that bad either. However, Rygar would be really fun with the Wii controls!

You know, some of those 2-D games were a lot more fun than the 3-D (or might I be so bold as to even claim that they were better than the 4-D games on the PS3). Metroid Prime was one of my favorite games on the Gamecube, but if they made another 2-D Metroid, Kid Icarus, Battletoads, Rygar, or any number of those great ones, I would gladly pay $20 for it. Put it on the VC and I bet you it would be huge! I'm talking Billy Fuccillo HUGE! Any Billy Fuccillo fans out there?

Um..late 2007 for Metroid? That is hard to swallow.

Do you think Nintendo would sabotage it's OWN flagship games by released TWO major titles for the SAME system around the SAME time period? I think not.

I am expecting Metroid for Spring 2007, that or Summer 2007 but I don't think they would risk pushing it to winter/fall. I mean it is one of their BIG titles and unless they pull SSBB from their butts and released that in the spring, I'd say they will fill it with Samus and that will fit just nicely.

Plus Mario woud probably be a better Holiday's game, it is Nintendo's mascot, so what better than to bring in the holiday's next year than MARIO! Give them more time to perfect the Galaxy too.

"Be patient."

To be honest, I'm having trouble doing that.
So far the Wii has *ONE* must-buy game - Z:TP.
I was hoping that "Trauma Center: SO" would be as good as the DS counterpart, but they obviously didn't spend more than 10 minutes on the damn thing. ZERO character animation, horrible in-game explainations, and in general a game that is only playable because I've played the DS original.

I love my Wii, and I'm satisfied for now, but I'm getting frustrated about the dearth of must-haves in the future.

On topic, Mario for XMas 07 sounds right. I'd be willing to bet we get Metroid before that. And let's not all forget about BWii and Mario Strikers Charged. Both games were amazing on 'Cube, so I'm plenty ready for new iterations.

I'm a nintendo fan but truthfully the wii is suckin in the game department! Its just like the g-cube.

Release one good game a year! Thats bullshit. The only good games nintendo ever releases is their first party games(zelda, metroid, ssb, mario) after they lost Rare.

People say "the wii is so innovative" "the wii is so great". Not when it comes to making new games. If I was you Nintendo I would savior your time remaking the same ol mario, zelda and pokemon shit because pretty soon that time will be gone and mario will be in the unemployment line with link trying to sell a game.

If they bring out Project H.A.M.M.E.R., Disaster:Day of Crisis, Mario Strikers and Battallion and get up some good online stuff and some so far unanounced titles, then this is no problem. But if the delay is true and it's all they have and third party stays ubisoftian(apart from raving rabbids), then they pull a cube earlier than I was affraid of.

I can't stand the guy either, but trust me, when you move away, you'll think back to those ads and laugh. It's HUGE!

One thing you can always depend on Nintendo for is delays. I don't know why it seems they have such a hard time with that, but when it comes from Nintendo, it'll be here when it gets here and there's no point getting all worked up about it. Besides, it'll give you more time to play Kid Icarus, Rygar, Battletoads (has anyone actually beat that game), Bayou Billy (now there was a gem), etc.

What, are metroid and mario the only games that are coming out on the wii? Why is everyone getting so mad about this? It's not like ps3 fanboys are complaining that the only reason to have a ps3 (MGS4 or FF13) won't get these games until the same time. I'm sure there will be other games between now and then, even if they are just 3rd party titles.

Geeze, from these posts you'd think that the x360 and ps3 have a AAA title every week. I've only seen, what, 3 AAA x360 titles so far, if that? I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but geeze, calm down.

I agree with #38 - I think a lot of people are overreacting.

My gameznflix queue has over 40 titles in it between Wii, PS2, and 360 (also a couple GameCube games I never got around to). If you add DS games and the occasional PC game, I could be busy playing games for over a year if nothing else is ever released.

Yes, I'm dying to play SSBB and Mario Galaxy, but it's not like I'm going to be sitting around bored in the mean time. Wii Sports won't get old for a while. I'm still sore from my boxing marathon on Sunday, and I'll probably wait 'til tomorrow to play again (if I can resist!).

Thats not the point though.

Every game that is halfass good is a mario or zelda game.

At least PS3 and 360 release good games besides FF and Halo. Resistance, Saints Row, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Motorstorm, Alan Wake is brand new and so is Gears. Pokemon and mario is not. See my point.

if they think party games will suffice till then they are wrong .
alot of us buy there system's for the likes of zelda, supersmash brothers and all the other tripe doesnt keep me a happy customer.

@39

EVERY game is halfass(?) good as Mario or Zelda?

I guess you're not a big RE4 fan?

However, I will admit that the reason Nintendo is getting more flack for delays than Sony is simple..........history.

Nintendo has a history of bad 3rd party support since the N64 (excluding the handheld market).

Sony has an incredible history of 3rd party support.

I mean come on. We've given Nintendo A LOT of lee way on the Wii. But this is an issue that has plagued them over and over again. It's no small wonder that signs of this specific bit of history repeating itself AGAIN is one of the FEW things that can pierce the Wii's armor.

The only thing that can deflect this arrow is Nintendo throw out it's long standing policy of secrecy on EVERYING and finally open up a bit on developing projects - while encouraging 3rd party supporters to do the same. Otherwise we'll just continue to think they have nothing to show.........................AGAIN!

So who is really holding gaming back?

I put my money on Nintendo for giving us the same damn games for the last 15 years. Now I know nintendo releases innovative consoles but that does us gamers no good when there are less innovative games.

PS3 and 360 are the ones moving us foward with fun games.

The wiimote is a awsome idea but its useless if we are playing the same ol shit gen to gen because of nintendo.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't MP3:C a launch WINDOW title? Elebits was a launch window title... there are 60 window titles, if I remember. But anyways, the point of the Wii isn't to have the same old games with new ways to play them... it might take a while for new games, truly NEW games. DS is the best example. there were no good games that took advantage of the ds capabilities at first. My friend had one, didn't have any games, sold it, and bought a shiny black coaster. And who's laughing now?!

The Intangible Fact

You are complaing about Nintendo holding gaming back and playing the same old games? That is exactly what Sony and M$ is doing. Halo 23 is coming out in 10 years, resereve your copy now! Gears of War 16 is coming out in 8, reserve your copy now. Final Fantasy 99 comes out in 6 years, reserve your copy now. Grand Theft Autu 10: Decadence City Part 5 is coming out in 5 years, reserve your copy now. Splinter Cell: Rogue Stranger (30) comes out in 7 years, reserve your copy now!

With the exception of maybe the latter FF (supposedly they are changing up how you play it, I don't know for sure), they are all the same. Same type of game, same play. So if you are going to bash on Nintendo for it...bash on the rest too.

The truth is, game developers hope to make franchises, it makes them more money. So if a proven concept works, why not run with it? I am not a fan of all these Mario games and I don't see why everyone is complaining. I for one am excited about the future games of Wii. I am not one bit upset that there isn't 20389 games coming out between now and spring or summer. I mean with my DS and Wii, I will have more than enough to tie me over.
