Perhaps this coincides w/ the (slight) delays of WarioWare and Wii Play. Maybe Nintendo does that, and between now and Q4 '07 spaces out some games like WiiMotorsports/Music, Project Hammer, Disaster, REWii, and whatever else hasn't been announced yet.

If this turns out to be true, I don't see how it's much different than Sony's '07 lineup. It seems like FF and MGS4 are their two big games next year; how's that different from Nintendo?

grrr this is a little annoying. I was really hoping I could play Metriod Prime 3 this Cristmas, but if these delays are going to give Nintendo enough time to make these games as epic as Zelda: TP, then I'm ok I guess.

Is it just me, or do all the people complaining about the lack of new material from Nintendo choose to completely ignore the existence of stuff like Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project HAMMER, not to mention the Pikmin franchise and stuff like Battalion Wars? "Man, nothing good is coming out till Mario! Nintendo, give me something good besides Mario!" Pretty contradictory statements.

#43...

Where do I begin?

1) How can Nintendo possibly "hold back" an industry? If people don't like the Wii because it's "the same IPs over and over again", they can just...oh I don't know....NOT BUY IT! But even NON gamers are! SO not only are they NOT holding gaming back, they are introducing it to a whole new slew of players.

2) By your logic, here is a list of games "holding gaming back"

- Halo
- Castlevania
- Final Fantasy (We'll be nice and NOT include spin offs....just the main TWELVE.)
- MSG
- Resident Evil
- Dragon Quest
- GTA
- The Elder Scrolls
- Madden anything
- EA anything
- Anything NOT a new IP
- Anything that uses dual shock (oops sixaxis)
- Anything that only uses analog sticks and buttons

I'm sure you see where I'm going. EVERYTHING in gaming is rehashed. From control layouts to anything that calls itself a sequel.

3) To say that Mario Galaxy is really a Rehash of the original Mario for the NES is REAAAAAAALLY pushing it. Or that Zelda OoT or TP is just a clone the Original for NES or LTTP for the SNES. They share the same name for familiarity (ala FF again) but the games are so different mechanically you might as well call the Sears tower just another "log cabin".

4) Lastly, has music, movies, or sports changed much in it's core either? Is the NFL "holding back football"? Are super celebrities in EVERY movie "holding back" Cinema?

Get real! The only thing "holding back" gaming.....are consumers. They are the ones that make risk taking so unappealing. Gamers in particular are the real "niche market" keeping gaming just the way it is. It is nothing more than an elitist club craving ever more complex scenarios and control schemes in an attempt to define themselves apart from their peers who are actually good at life.

I agree but you still missed the point.

Yes there might be a Halo 16 or a FF104 but thats better than a Mario500 or Zelda376. At least Sony and MS have more to lean then just their backbone franchises.

Good Nintendo games coming out Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon

Good Sony & MS games comming out ---- FF, MGS, Motorstorm, Crackdown, Mass Effect, GTA

@ BlindsideDork

or they could put metroid in for xmas 07 and move mario back to 08. Nintendo's good at that kinda stuff ;)

@ The Intangible Fact

Now look at your "AAA" list of games, and tell me if you see any common themes... perhaps gritty art direction and blatently obvious overtones of the stereotyped male 18-24 demographic? You've got 3 space marines games, 2 GTA clones, a racing game and one origional-ish game (Alan Wake). Now these could all be fantastic games in and of themselves, but they are hardly fresh. As for the themes I metioned before, thats all well and good if you're into that stuff, but say someone doen't like that type of game, what do they have to look forward to on the 360? Viva Pinata? and... Kameo? Nintendo has the same issue, 'cept in reverse, most of their games are following this sort of theme of whimsy and color, which appeals to a certain type of consumer but not another. So whichever console you think is 'better' ends up being more based on your personal game tastes than 'frequency of new IPs' or 'frequency of AAA'

As for the PS3, I don't even know what their release schedule is, so I'm afraid I cant comment >_> But the PS2 (though I've never personally owned one) had and still has the widest representation of a lot of gaming tastes, your Final Fantasies and your Blacks and your Katamaris, etc., all together in one place. And if the PS3 can pull off something similar, it will be much more appealing, especially since most peoples' tastes overlap into more than one genre/theme...

Hopefully what happened to the DS does happen to the Wii. I got a DS at launch and there were no games. I think I bought Mario 64 at launch and barely played it because I hated the controls. I had to wait months for good games to show up. Now there are a TON of good games on the DS.

Hopefully developers are seeing the demand for the Wii right now and get some Wii games out there.

The Intangiable Fact.

To say M$ has more to lean on their their backbone franchises is a LAUGH! If it wasn't for Halo, XBox would've crashed and burned! Trust me on this, there are articles in magazines that discussed this over and over again.

Plus you say Zelda 376, um...next to Metroid, Zelda is one of the smallest franchises that is OLD. There really aren't a whole lot of Zelda games. What about 8 or 9ish games to date (i-Philips CD's don't count!)? And they came out in well over 10 years.

How many Grand Theft Autos are there? Around 7 or 8 and most of those came out in the past 5 or so years.

And I am SO tired of hearing about people using Games for Sony and M$ that aren't out! Mass Effect, it could be good, it coudl be bad, no telling. Motorstom, all there is a import version that is said to be bare.

And by the way, FF games are coming to Nintendo Wii & DS. But at this point it is clear to see you are an Anti-Nintendo person for whatever reason you refuse to try to see it positively, and when you do you are contradict yourself.

You know what pisses me off. Nintendo said that this wouldn't damnit happen. they said they learned from their mistakes from the 64 and the cube and realize that there has to be quality titles released year round, YEAR -FUCKING- ROUND in order for Wii to be successful.

I have a Wii and I;m starting to get mad as hell. This is the same ol' Nintendo bullshit that fans have been forced to take since forever. It happened with the DS too. What the hell am I supposed to play in the meantime? Wii Play? WarioWare? Get me a damn break, this bullshit better not be true or Nintendo better have some damn good titles in the pipeline to hold us over because if not, Ebay is gonna look real sweet in early 07 with my Wii on the block.

The PS3 and 360 have more badass games comming out than Wii.

The Wii have about six games coming out that look good.

The 360 & PS3 have about 20+ games coming out that look like great games.

See the difference.

Oh, come now...overreact, much?

No good games for the Wii? Are you HIGH? Madden 07 is getting good reviews. Elebits, Rayman, Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, DBZ, Excite Truck....now, you might rightfully point out that it doesn't have a lot of good exclusives, yet...but that's true of any console at launch. The PS/3 suffers from the same flaw. One difference, though, is that some of the ports to the Wii actually are different from the game on other platforms. The Wii version of Madden gets high marks for its unique controls, for example.

Coming up you've got: Warioware, Sonic, SSX Blur, Battalion Wars and Medal of Honor: Vanguard confirmed for the next couple of months...none of which includes the Virtual Console releases.

has anyone here ever played a Nintendo game before, cause if you dont expect these delays yet, you obviously havent played a Nintendo game before. My hopes is that none of the other big hitters get pushed back. Animal Crossing, Battalion Wars and a bunch of other 1st parties either. I'm glad they are getting pushed back cause A they'll be much better games and B I wont have to spend so much money per month on games yet.

20+ "great" games eh intangeable? Can you name 10 of them that will be out by Christmas '07? I've looked at the charts, you might be able to name 5 that are cross platform that would widely be considered "great".

It's easy to pick numbers out of thin air that support your argument. You may also be including or excluding games in that count that others would disagree with because they have a different taste in games. Try actually listing out games for each console that you consider great. That way people can see if there's actually anything to back up what you're saying.

Ah, fucking Nintendo! This is why I sold my Wii. It's not enough to have only five AAA titles in a consoles life-cycle. Might be worth getting in about three years as a budget option. There WILL be a drought of good games. If there are games they will follow the example of Gameboy, heaps of shit movie licensed kid stuff. After N64 and Gamecube I'm not playing along with this nintendo crap for a third time in a row.

"I'm a nintendo fan but truthfully the wii is suckin in the game department! Its just like the g-cube."

Wow, talk about a bunch of drama queens in this thread. First off, the console has been out THREE WEEKS! Already people are crying about a lack of games? Puh-lease. I've already clocked more time in Wii Sports than I've spent gaming in a long long time (and it's still as fun as it was on Day One). Not to mention Zelda, which I'm only one dungeon into so far, Elebits, which I haven't even opened yet...

Secondly, these are RUMORS! Hold your bitter tears until Nintendo tells you these games are delayed. Personally, I'm not a believer.

"The 360 & PS3 have about 20+ games coming out that look like great games"

O RLY. Well, the 360 has been out a FULL YEAR already and it's just BARELY getting games worth a serious look. And even then they're mostly tired FPS rehashes. And I haven't seen any PS3 previews that get me all atwitter.

With the Wii being such a huge surprise hit, I imagine third party developers are falling all over each other right now ramping up plans for Wii development.

Give it time, whiners. The good stuff is on the way.

Halo is a trilogy so you can shut up now.
How about Zelda? EVERYTIME it's the same m'fuckin story huh? Milking you per console.

360- Lost Planet, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon (Q1 07 USA), Forza 2 AND GTR. It also has Bioshock and Alan Wake as console exclusives. Do I need to mention Viva Pinata taking much more time?

Only 1 of them is a sequel. And it's just "2". Somebody needs a fact check.

And if you ever say a Bioware game sucked, I'd punch you direct in the face. In the game dev world Bioware = Blizzard = Awesome track record.

Too bad Mass Effect ain't coming to the Wii and you got sour, eh?

So because 2 games aren't coming out until late 2007, a system is automatically a failure. Great reasoning. It's like saying that the 360 is going to tank because GOW didn't come out until late 2006. First off there will be other titles that'll come out that'll tide you over until "the big AAA games".

LOZ:TP wasn't the only game at launch, you also had excite truck, rayman, DBZ, trauma center, elebits, etc that also came out. All good games, most of which aren't available on any other system and only 1 other that is a 1st party title. Sure they may not be as deep as LOZ:TP but that doesn't make them bad games at all.

Then you have the VC games that are being released. Yes most of them are old NES knock-offs that are clearly there to make a buck, but you also got the mostly obscure TG16 games that most people never played (bomberman gets almost as much time as Wii Sports with my group of friends). Also Mario 64 and original Zelda is nothing to scoff at either. And don't forget the Sega gems that are out. Ecco the dolphin, Sonic, and freaking gunstar heroes.

Then finally for those who never owned a GC, or sold one in the middle of the life cycle, there's an entire library of AAA titles both first and 3rd party games that more than deserve to be included. LOZ:WW, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart, Metriod Prime, SSB:M, any Mario Party or Mario Sport out there. Plus your RE:4 Eternal Darkness, Monkey ball, all off the top of my head and I know I'm forgetting a slew of other 3rd party titles that were just as good.

What other console out there has that kind of line up already available during launch window? The 360? Sure their line up is looking strong now, but what did they have a launch? COD2, PGR3 and Kameo and geomitry wars. It wasn't even fully backwards compatable with Xbox1 games. Not until March did they finally see some good titles, FNR3, GRAW, and Oblivion. Then they had to wait until summer for Dead Rising.

And what does the PS3 have? Resistance, that's it. And the promise of MG4 and FF13 some time late 2007 or early 2008. And if you've entered the next-gen with a highdef tv, all those PS1 and PS2 game will look awful on your tv.

The point I'm making is that the Wii has a lot more to offer than most people are making it out to be. And if what's out there is enough for you then don't get the system at all, or also get a 360 or ps3 so it'll broaden your library further.

The N-fans are getting fired up! Wii sports sux the big one. Very boring and some games you have to stand up to play. The Wii is expensive in comparison to the 360 from a tech point of view. Zelda has too much text and the same stupid music from way back when. Flame on but lads but I'm at least giving my DS the benefit of the doubt.

I know you won't read this cause it is too far back, but I seriously doubt Halo will stop at a Trilogy. What about "Halo Wars"? Let me guess that doesn't count cause it isn't called Halo 4?

Rainbow6 and Splinter Cell...they are all about as much the same story as Zelda is. And Madden games are the same thing, those 3 are milking. Only difference (as I said earlier) there were only 8ish in about 20 years, and just about everytime they came out they were heralding as being superb and epic and just GREAT games.

Not sure why you listed those games...I guess cause they are new non-sequel games. And isn't there next to little info on the Lost Odyssey game?

But the same is said about Nintendo, they have games that aren't sequels coming out...Elebits, Disaster, Project Hammer, Super Swing Golf, Necro Nesia, and others.

Granted it is not alot but the System has only been out for a little over a month! and 360 has been out for a year and like others have stated, just NOW getting good games. There are only 3 or 4 games that interest me, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Gears of War, and MAYBE Prey. And none are begging me to rush out and get a 360, not worth the money.

I am not dissing Bioware, Bioshock looks cool, but it is also coming out on PC. Plus, where do you see that Bioware = Blizzard? Just in quality? That is just a matter of opinion.

And about Mass Effect coming to Wii....DARN, after seeing the latest video of it I have 0 interest in it. Looks like another generic/lame shooter with a dialogue system and allows you to "level" up your characters. No thanks...
