Wii Play delay, Wiimote pack-in now due mid-Feb
Wii Play's North American debut has been unexpectedly pushed back to February 12, perhaps to give WarioWare: Smooth Moves, due on January 15, some space to dominate the minigame genre. Of course, for those of us waiting to buy additional controllers, Wii Play's release couldn't come soon enough. The minigame collection is sold exclusively as a Wiimote pack-in.See also: Wii Play minigames WRU?!

ogh, that's a bit of a money grab.
At the same time, i really do need another wiimote.
silkylove @ Dec 19th 2006 10:38PM
That's fine. I only plan to buy 2 Wiimotes B4 Xmas anyway.
JaSoN! @ Dec 19th 2006 10:45PM
irish, have wii play solely for the remote allocation of remotes.
um, do you know the game is pure and utter shite?
farmok @ Dec 19th 2006 10:52PM
soooo, what happens to those who bought 4 wii-motes already? I hope they plan on having it available for those that already have plenty of wii-motes.
mywhitenoise @ Dec 19th 2006 10:51PM
What the hell!? Dumb move Nintendo, I already bought my nunchuk in preparation.
silkylove @ Dec 19th 2006 10:51PM
Um. Most of the reviews I've seen about Wii Play have been postivie. If I get it free for buying a controller I was already planning on buying then that's gravy. A hater in the house me thinks.
Terrak @ Dec 19th 2006 10:59PM
I already have Wiiplay, its an ok title but don't expect too much from it. Its a decent showcase of some of the other things that can be done using the Wii mote but it lacks depth and will get boring rather quickly. Multiplayer is lacking too. KNow that you are getting it mainly for the controller and no the game and you'll be happy (thats what i did). Those that already have 4 controllers, i wouldn't get the game on its own unless its like US$10 or less.
That being said you get what you payfor.
Kiey @ Dec 19th 2006 11:07PM
It might just be an issue that they don't think they'll have enough Wii remotes ready to bundle up with all the copies of Wii Play. In which case they really just should have sold it separately.
JaSoN! @ Dec 19th 2006 11:07PM
i'm no hater mr number 5. far too much of my time over the past two weeks has been poured into Wii Sports. wii play has been forsaken because it's dire. consider it friendly advice, unless you want to splash out on a collection of substandard mini games with wiimote control? if so fine, i won't stop you from here but please be warned. it is awful. so don't panic number 6, people with four remotes need not waste their good time or money. don't waste your money. Wii Play is shallow, uninspiring and hardly worth the extra tenner. :-)
Harv @ Dec 19th 2006 11:11PM
Wii Play is a pretty poor quality title, but considering in the UK it essentially costs £5 you can't really complain. Since getting my Wii last Friday I've only played Play three times, and two of those times were to quickly show a few friends what is really just a tech demo. For those anticipating something that'll last for more than about 20 minutes, Wii Play probably isn't it.
James @ Dec 19th 2006 11:21PM
Gyah, I caved and got my 2nd (and final) 'mote this past Saturday. We'll see how long they hold out before selling it on its own...
Retrojunkie @ Dec 20th 2006 1:00PM
I am waiting for somebody to say People who enjoy playing a Wii are lying to themselves and should of bought a ps3
because every conversation burst into a moronic fanboy war one way or another
TheDoomer @ Dec 19th 2006 11:29PM
I bought an extra remote/nunchuk at launch, I don't see needing more than 2 for a very long time. So I'm just gonna look around eBay for Wii Play when it comes out.
Howard Moon @ Dec 20th 2006 12:03AM
grrrrrr.....this is how I feel about Wii today! (forcast channel, and Opera demo take nothing away from the Mario, Metroid, and Wiiplay delay!
Ross Brackstone @ Dec 20th 2006 12:16AM
Ouch... us over in australia have had wii-play since launch, that's a bit strange. Enjoyable for $10 AUD and a wiimote.
Cuja @ Dec 20th 2006 1:08AM
Be nice if they put it on a disk and sell it separately. Then again they might still charge us a full $50 for it.
Sly @ Dec 20th 2006 1:28AM
Well I guess the honeymoon is over. Everything keeps getting push back: wii games, retro games, online gaming, browser, etc. And now this! I just hope they aren't feeding us along and then drop the ball on us with more crappy looking games, further delays, drop support or even cancellation.
Zelos @ Dec 20th 2006 4:47AM
Wii Play is quite fun, I like the table tennis and laser hockey games. It's a good way to get used to the controller, but I doubt anyone would still be playing it more than a week after they bought it.
Foetoid @ Dec 20th 2006 5:35AM
I've had my Wii for 2 weeks now since the Aussie Launch and i picked up the Wii-Play bundle for my second controller and a nunchuk along with zelda and red-steel. Red Steel i played for 1 day, took it back, swapped it for Tony Hawk Downhill Jam, and never looked back. If i want a FPS, i will wait for Metroid Prime. Wii-Play is fairly cool. 2 or 3 of the games are so crap they never get played, but Snooker, Lazer Hockey, Table Tennis and Duck Hunt get played regularly, more so now that i have finished Zelda. If you're looking for an extra wii-mote, it's worth the small amount of extra cash.
gLitterbug @ Dec 20th 2006 7:15AM
Honeymoon indeed seems to be over. Business tactics served for dessert now. At least Wii Play is something we Europeans didn't get fucked over with.
Not that the games are really all that awesome, but enjoyable for a while and a store here sells it for only 5 Euros more than just the remote(other stores sell only the remote for the same price as that one Wii Play).
I wonder if Wii Play would really cannibalize Wario Ware sales and if actually Nintendo thinks so.
MJ @ Jan 8th 2007 4:34AM
It's not worth it. Especially "find the Mii" bullshit is too retarded... The shooter is alright and so is laser hockey and pool with Tanks being the best, but it's just over so quick. I got gold in everything (except the find the Mii BS) in less than 3 hours play time. Find the Mii occupying the most of that.
AcE @ Dec 20th 2006 11:58AM
In the UK you couldn't get Wiimotes without Wii Play. Didn't bother me much seeing as it was only a fiver anyway.
Still, you guys really arn't missing out on much. Its a bundle of shit that I played for all of 5 minutes to unlock all the games, then have never touched since.
Josh @ Dec 20th 2006 1:14PM
It's probably because Nintendo is already having problems getting Remotes out into the wild. They don't need a game that requires it as a pack-in, too.
As for me, it makes my mid-January purchases a little lighter (WarioWare and Phoenix Wright!)
Tyler Waite @ Dec 20th 2006 4:21PM
Hey, thats my birthday! Man, that means i cannot get it for my birthday. :{
