Former Nintendo execs honored for lifetime achievements
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences will be honoring former Nintendo executives Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln with the academy's first Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions in pioneering the 25 billion a year video game industry.GameDaily has the scoop: "Since the work of both Arakawa and Lincoln in the building up Nintendo of America contributed to breathing life back into the video game business after the notorious crash of 1983, both men are certainly deserving of the award. 'The impact of the work done by Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln can still be felt today,' noted Joseph Olin, president, AIAS."
Arakawa is credited for establishing Nintendo of America back in 1980 and served as its first president until he retired in 2002. Lincoln, an attorney ninja and together with Arakawa, brought the NES to America and closed the exclusive Tetris distribution deal with the Soviet Union, a move that would eventually lead to Nintendo's handheld dominance through today. Also, both men helped pitch the profit potential of video games to investors in the 80s, an obviated need in today's landscape. We tip our hats and raise our controllers like flaming Zippos, gentlemen.

Sigh, its a post congratulating two gentlemen who brought life back into the gaming industry, and already some sony fanbot is turning it into a flame war. Nice job Dave, you must a really smart man, to furiously believe the crap you have uttered, I won't even bother to set you straigh. I'm sure there's plenty of readers who do that soon enough.
Thank you "The Intangible Fact"

I believe Dave is joking people.

Dave is either crazy or joking. I'd like to think he's joking but he's a little annoying none the less.
Dave @ Dec 20th 2006 3:24PM
the only people that have contributed ANYTHING to the gaming industry are Ken Kutaragi and Phil Harrison
and im not joking, mark my words, once Linux goes mainstream thanks to the playstation three M$ will be dead in the water. its like killing two birds with one stone, the ps3 kicks the 360's ass in the gaming department and the ability to install YEllow dog kicks Windows ass in the OS department
this time next year bill 'FREAK' gates and steve 'NEEDS A' job will be unemployed at home in their underwear
I say steve jobs coz the walkmans gonna kick the ipods and zunes ass, as well as the PS3 destroying apple Macs
also Nintendo are already dead in the water for reasins i mentioned earlier

Does anyone else wonder what an "attorney ninja" is?
"Lincoln, an attorney ninja and together with Arakawa, brought the NES to America and closed the exclusive Tetris..."
wilbz @ Dec 20th 2006 3:30PM
I'm surprised Dave's tongue has not yet ruptured his cheek, it's been so firmly planted.
The hilarity is really the fact that people are pinning him as a Sony fanboy. Try not to be so obtuse, people!
Liqwid @ Dec 20th 2006 3:38PM
Hey, Dave. I'd like to have you explain how all of the middle-class will be able to A.) get their hands on a PS3 and B.) afford a PS3. I, myself, being of the middle class, find more of my friends with 360s and Wiis than the PS3. Don't get me wrong, Sony has crammed some bad ass hardware into that machine, but it's too far ahead of it's time and not everyone wants Blu-Ray and not everyone wants to pay the $60 premium for every game that don't look near as good as games on the 360. (some of the best 360 games have only cost me $50 dollars, and Wii is still $50 and will remain so) I have a 360, and I've played a PS3. I've played comparisons, and I'm happy with what I have.
No, I am not biased in any way whatsoever. In fact, I bought a PS2 last year because I wanted to play some of my old PSone games, new FF games, and Kingdom Hearts. Long story short, I sold it within that month.
Liqwid @ Dec 20th 2006 3:39PM
In fact, I know of no one around me that has a PS3.
Mal F4cti0n @ Dec 20th 2006 3:41PM
Yeah, I kind of got he was joking from his very first post.....especially when he said the PSP links with the "AWESOMELY CHEAP PS3".
Anyway. Getting to the question posed in the post.....how about "interactive, real-time, hyper fun story" or something like that.
You could say, "Mommy, can I play my interactive, real-time hyper fun story machine?" or "I was playing interactive, real-time hyper fun stories all night and my girlfriend got pissed."

How many points does the Lifetime Achievement add to your GamerScore?
Dave @ Dec 20th 2006 3:42PM
FYI i happen to have some insider information that in january sony will be slashing the price of both PS3s
the high price was just until they got the production problems sorted out
its all sorted now, and in January my source tells me Sony are planning to ship 15 MILLION of these bad boys worldwide
also, Sony will be putting ps1 and ps2 hardware in all new ps3's manufactured to combat the backwards compatibility problems
and Rumble will be going in the PS3 in late 2007
watch this space!
David @ Dec 20th 2006 3:44PM
I hate Dave. He ruins it for the rest of us.
@Patrick- Whatever happened to Nester?

j @ Dec 20th 2006 4:15PM
The Howard in the "Howard & Nester" comics is portrayed after Howard Philips (who works for MS Games now I believe). Completely different person from Howard Lincoln :)
Dave @ Dec 20th 2006 4:18PM
im not kidding
a recent study showed that 94% of experts thought that the ps3 "ass rapes the ps3 and the wii in a hedge like a donkey 6 times every night"
You cant dispute undisputable facts!
The Intangible Fact @ Dec 20th 2006 4:21PM
@ Troll, i mean Dave.
When you say experts you really mean middle school classmates right?
nabisco @ Dec 20th 2006 4:24PM
@The Intangible Fact,
"The DS is in dead water."
"The snes is just a rip of off the original playstation! just look at the controllers."
"I happen to have some insider information..."
It goes on. Only you can blame yourself for being so dense.
The Intangible Fact @ Dec 20th 2006 4:28PM
@ nabisco
Some people are really that dumb.
Liqwid @ Dec 20th 2006 4:40PM
With Sony losing over $300 per console, and having to lose millions more for their little battery fiasco.... a price cut will never happen. A price cut won't happen with the PSP because they need the extra cash (with what little) that it brings. A price cut really isn't the best way to make a profit, in Sony's case.
Take that price cut talk with two heaping cups of salt.

Nabisco is right; it's really easy to tell Dave is joking. Just like everyone can tell you're an idiot, despite not seeing your face.
Mr. Khan @ Dec 20th 2006 7:05PM
Due to Dave's tone, i would almost think he is being serious, but the simple fact that he gets absolutely EVERYTHING wrong is the reason why he has to be joking
(the key is the awesomely cheap PS3, which ALL admit it is not)
Even the blindest fanbot usually has SOME of their facts checked, Dave apparently has none
Thus, a joke
Way to go, Nintendo

Sorry its a repost but i want to see daves response to this -
WIth so few ps3 floating round (400k??)you'd think that ebay sellers would make a killing on them. the ps3 is supposed to be the most sought after gift this holiday season. Why then are so many ebay sellers selling ps3 are losing money?
THis poor seller earned only US$10 for his troubles-
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation3-PS3-20GB-Brand-New-Plus-Extras_W0QQitemZ190064260621QQihZ009QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
This one couldn't even meet the reserve, and ended with a loss of US$145. Look at the sellers stats, 100% positive.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation-3-20-GB-w-Talledega-Nights-PS3_W0QQitemZ130057714915QQihZ003QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Even when they add in the HDMI cables it still did not meet reserved and ending bid was over US$100 less then it actually cost the seller.

Is the ps3 in high demand? I won't deny there are some good profits of some ps3 ebay sales, but its not common anymore and it seems more and more you would be lucky to break even selling them. SO what exactly is the problem with selling the ps3 at the moment?
Nicholas Sulikowski @ Dec 20th 2006 7:10PM
Somebody get me a shotgun, Imma kill me some Dave.
Rubang @ Dec 20th 2006 8:25PM
Thank you Dave. You are a genius.
Also, Howard Lincoln is definitely an attorney ninja. He's one of the most hardcore ninjitsu lawyers of all time. When Nintendo was nothing in this country, he totally destroyed Universal Studios' claim that Donkey Kong infringed on King Kong. And in the 1990s he defended the entire video game industry against all the madmen who wanted government censorship to stop games like Mortal Kombat and Night Trap from corrupting the youth and whatnot. We owe that man our nuts.
