More Kingdom Hearts in 2007

Brace yourself for this one, folks: Square Enix is taking a successful franchise and furthering it with sequels galore. Kingdom Hearts producer Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu that there will be multiple KH projects in the works, with announcements coming in 2007.We're not going to make any assumptions as to the future console of choice for Kingdom Hearts 3 (or whatever crafty subtitle they decide), especially after the Dragon Quest DS shuffle. If multiple projects are in order, however, the true successor in the series will probably go to a home console, with portable systems receiving the side stories (see: Chain of Memories).
Square Enix hinted at forthcoming 2007 announcements during their presentation at Jump Fiesta; are these two news bits related or does the RPG giant have more secrets in store for next year? And while we're at it, what Disney movies has the series overlooked in merging the two companies' icons?

KH is a great series. Two requests, though, Square:
1. Ditch the sing-a-long crap. My ears bled for weeks.
2. MULTIPLATFORM.
KH3, in combination with FFXIII and MGS4 could combine, like a horrid, blasphemous Transformer, and break down the wall of willpower that keeps me from buying a PS3. I beg of you, Square, be that company to make the bold step of breaking faith with Sony. You will make money hand over fist if you do.
The japanese concept of nationalism and honor aside, that ship is sinking. Products like KH3 and FF13 are giant balasts, and will keep it afloat for a while longer, maybe even get them through these choppy waters and into the clear, but your company shouldn't have to be saddled with the responsibility of making sure their adventure in blu-ray works.

Sweet, KH3 for PS3. It wouldn't work on Wii, and certainly not on a handheld, so where else can it go.
Besides, Wii's already running out of steam.
Maybe the Ds will get KH2.5, but even that'll be remade for PS3 like CoM was remade for PS2.
It's win-win if you own a PS3.

Before going back to college, I bought a PS2 slim just to play KH and KH2. I've beaten them a long time ago, but I have to say that I've enjoyed the games quite a lot. Perhaps it wouldn't seem very wise to buy a PS2 just to play 2 games, but I'm looking forward to other PS2 games that I've missed out on, such as the MGS series and Katamari Damancy.
I'm not sure if I can carry that devotion over to KH3 if it is released for the PS3, and if the PS3's price doesn't drop drastically from where it is now.

Finally! Yes I know its been only a couple of months, but Finally! More Kingdom Hearts is a good thing, if they know what they are doing. As long as Square takes their time, chooses a single console (or multiple), sticks to it/them, and listen to the feadback from the last game then the new ones should be awsome.
Also I'm concerned about nongaming projects, but they could also work extremely well.

They've overlooked Robin Hood from 1973. That was the film that kept Disney afloat. If that movie flopped, then there most likely would be no Disney.
It was also the first animated Disney movie after Walt Disney's death.

Uhh, Why wouldnt it work on the wii? It worked great on the PS2, and I am 100% sure the Wii can do all the PS2 can and more, heck, the GCN could do more then the PS2, so of course it would work on the Wii.
And the wii is also not running outta steam, it still selling out every time, compared to the reports that PS3 have been sitting on shelves.
And they could have remade it for any console, they chose to do it on the PS2, becasue its is being packaged with Final Mix II, which is a PS2 game... duh.

#8 you just contradicted yourself right there. 360 is basically Dreamcast 2. And the sales below expectations, the inability to secure a lead after one year of no competition, being outsold by PS2 constantly, being unable to get back 4 billion dollar losses, this all points to a massive failure label slapped onto the box.
It wouldn't work on the craptastic 360 control scheme anyway.
But I'm sure mS will tell you differently.

@ #9: I was just thinking that. There could be so much done with that: archery, stealth missions, getting snakes drunk. Beyond RH though, what else could there be? Oliver and Company? Fox and the Hound?

Wow, this is very exciting news. I know its atypical but I honestly feel that KH2 is my favorite game. I love the story and adventuring Final Fantasy style in Disney universes is just plain old fun.
Perhaps they will incorporate the Pixar games into the newest ones. How fun would it be to interact with Woody, Buzz and the gang, The Incredibles or Mike and Sulley? I think seeing the characters "monster-fied" into the Monsters Inc universe would be amazingly fun.
The news of which system the game would be released for might be a heavy weight on which I must choose when the times comes. I'm definitely looking forward to this release!

I would love you so much because I own both 1 2 and COM but the thing is Im not getting a PS3 I am a loyal 360 fanboy so please release something KH related to the 360!

It's only the BEST RPG to come out of the wagon since Final Fantasy itself. The story is deep, the gameplay is fun, the characters awesome, and the worlds are nestalgoic while being incredibly fun. BTW, it DOES have Captain Jack Sparrow. Thats a winner right there.

If they make Kingdom Hearts for the PS3, I would like to see the graphical powerhouse REALLY put to use. If Sora and gang jump from movie to movie, let's make the characters also CHANGE their appearance to match the animation style of the movies they jump into.
Make them go into Robin Hood and suddenly have that sketchy look from the films of those days, like The Jungle Book. Have them go into Mary Poppins' animated world and have them look suspiciously Bluescreened. Go back to Jack Skellington's world and have them suddenly move slightly choppy like claymation. Go into Incredibles and suddenly have them all have exaggerated body proportions.
I wrote about this idea in my blog, once, and didn't really have the perfect vehicle for doing something like this. Kingdom Hearts III would be perfect.
I would buy a PS3 for THAT, even though I've never played a KH game before.

Does anyone think that SE is going to keep their best kid-friendly series on the Playstation right after they ditch it for the DS? Now if they kept Dragon Quest on the PS, then it would be reasonable to keep the PS3 for KH. But now, it's evident that SE doesn't have enough confidence in the PS3 base to create this game for it. Also, I myself wouldn't mind KH3 for PS2. We all know it would look great.

They'll most likely use White Engine which they use for FFXIII too.

W00t! More KH!! Yes! This definately brightened my day. Personally, I'd love to see KH3 released on the DS, but I know that won't EVER happen, and I won't hate SE for that. I'd like to see it released on the Wii, since its the Nintendo home console, but SE may not be confident enough the fan base will be present (though it may be by the time something's announced). The PS3? I think it's completely out of the question since apparently development for it its very expensive, and since few have the system, the revenue just wouldn't be there. The 360? I don't know what to say. If it were announced for the 360, that'd just be completely random. So what's left? Last gen. Xbox and GNC are pretty much dead, but the PS2 is still rolling with good momentum, so it would make alot of sense to release KH3 on it. The fanbase is definately there since its the same fanbase they've built throughout KH1 and 2, it's pretty much inexpensive to develop for it, and revenue would soon follow. So, KH3 on the PS2? I would be surprised if they announced it. I'd be happy, that'd mean I don't have to give Sony anymore money for consoles. And of course, you can expect a KH2.5 on the DS to link KH2 and 3, like they did with CoM on the GBA. Overall, its a win-win situation for all KH fans, after all, if you're a fan of the series, you most likely own both iterations and own a PS2, so you'll be ready for KH3.
I love that game so much, almost as much as Golden Sun.

Good luck with that. Square Enix isn't going to port the first two games over... And why would they release KH 3 on any other console when the first two were PS3 exclusive?

@31, I wouldn't say that's true. I barely tolerate Disney, and I really liked KH2. KH1 I never did get all the way through, but KH2 was awesome.
It's got a lot more in there than just weird disney crap. And while some of it is actually really cool (like Pirates and Tron), the Disney bits actually take away from the game, in my opinion. BUT. The core story is one suffused with familiar characters (even if they are disney), and it's a really epic story of friends fighting againt pure evil.
Even if you don't like Disney, give KH2 a shot.

my guess is that they'll add characters from the snes now with the release of all of the original FFs on the GBA and DS now, aside from the fact that they featured Setzer back in KH2. don't know about disney, though.

In contrast to Insomnia Bob, I think KH1 is the better KH. Never did finish KH2, just kind of drifted away from it, it didn't grab me as much as KH1 did. Seemed too close to the Disney source material.

@ #8: The system only recently came out. They are being sold. The PS3 is not dead, it has only just begun. The startup will be slow, admittedly, but do you think that the system is still going to be unattainable by next Christmas, which is nowhere near the time when these KH3 games will be ready? I somehow doubt it.

Best Choice for Square Enix would be Wii, right now. Because Wii has been doing great in Japan which is a HUGE part of Kingdom Hearts Fanbase. But the PS3 has a bit of an edge because PS2 owners may have moved to pS3 and graphics ability is great(with HDMI). Xbox360 is a great system, but mostly in North America. It has failed to gain the momentum among Japanese gamers. Wii would also introduce an interesting way for fans to play. Or easiest choice go with Wii for now. Release Upgrade FINAL MIX version for PS3 fans in a years time. And 360 owners can go buy Wii =)for $149.99 when KH3 comes out.
But what makes you think that this project is a game ?!?! It could be a movie, tv show or some other medium. There were hints in the past that the next parrt of Kingdom Hearts would not be a game. Including the fact that Tetsuya Nomura said that a month after the release of KH2. Unless Im mistaken, which I very well could be.

Lol.. The people who say " Square does not have enough confidence on the ps3 to probably commit to it a KH" ( not word for word)... So the Creator of Kingdom Hearts working on a Title known as .. " Final Fantasy Versus Thirteen" Would not consider making KH for the ps3 because there is no confidence, though he has no problem taking his KH team and making a Final Fantasy for it. ( Even though I'd take that as a hint that he is having his team test and master the playstation 3 before putting something grand on it, Something like a.. Kingdom Hearts game? No no there's no confidence.)/sarcasm.
Either Way.. You're all stupid. Kingdom Hearts Ended with Kingdom Hearts 2. I hope That the next Kingdom Hearts story is like Chronicles of the Hearts- or some shit where it follows different characters. I'm tired of Sora's " POWER!" :(

I wouldn't be suprised if they are making several games, A la FFXIII, maybe a spinoff for DS, like a 2.5, then a verses game, that would be pretty sweet playing against others, maybe an online version of the game online co-op.
has S-E been making any games for 360 yet? if they aren't I assume they wont make Kingdom Hearts for it, I mean they would like to make this game as good as possible, and at the moment they have alot of experiance with the PS3/DS combo.
either that or it will be a PS2/PS3 game with enhanced textures and models on the PS3 version but the core game intact. I would buy that.

That's not true at all. That's like saying you have to like the taste of mushrooms to enjoy SMB.
That being said, they need to do something different with the disney characters/worlds angle this time around. It was a great hook for the first one, but it was the weak point in KH2; the Org 13 et al was vastly more compelling. I'd love for the Disney side of it to be abandoned, but there's really no chance of that given Disney's involvement...maybe limited, at least. Why not visit FF worlds that has characters we haven't seen (FFIV, Ivalice, Spira if we forget about tidus/wakka, etc.)? Or, hell, limit it to one massive world and find some other means to drastically change your environment, party memebers, etc.
Of course, there's a huge likelihood that they'll put the damn thing on the DS to make cash and it will suck no matter what...I shouldn't get my hopes up for this game.

I really hope they either go multiplatform or abandon the PS3 altogether. There's no way I'm buying one, yet I still want Kingdom Hearts goodness. Oh well, if they decide to keep it on the PS3, more power to them. Of course, they'll still most likely suffer from less than excellent sales.

Kingdom Hearts is the only game that I would buy a console for. So whatever console it comes for Im cool with it. But Id prefer it come for Wii due to its WiiMote and the fact that I already own it.

Aren't Kingdom Hearts games and Nintendo consoles stereotypically targeted toward a younger audience? The only question that needs to be answered is "why DIDN'T they release KH/KH2 on Gamecube?"... then, if it seems Wii is overcoming these obstacles, it's reasonable to conclude Square will go where the money is: PS2 (installed base) or Wii (target audience). PS3 doesn't seem very likely, and it's not because Square doesn't have confidence, but because they like putting all their eggs in one basket and they pick the console most likely to make them money. Given that, I think the PS3 is the perfect choice for FF13: the target audience matches and, from the game trailers I've seen, the game has technical demands only the PS3 or Xbox 360 could meet. Therefore, FF13 on PS3? No brainer. KH3 for PS3? That's still up in the air. It really depends on how much importance Square places on graphics for KH3. It's already clear that for Square the Wii is much more appealing than the Gamecube was.
