"Anshe Chung, the avatar for Second Life millionaire (in real money, not Linden Bucks)"

Nope, not in real money, in estimated value of virtual real estate. I am very skeptical that if she wanted to turn this into a million dollars in cash today, that she actually could.

This reminds me when all my friends and I had a million dollars worth of dot-com stock options 7 years ago. If any of us had actually referred to ourselves as millionaires, we'd be looking pretty stupid right now.

Why is this news?
Why is anything that happens in Second Life news?
It has an active user base of roughly 10,000 users and yet it gets incredible press coverage.
The only thing I can think of that's similar is Burning Man, which draws maybe 5,000-8,000 people and yet gets national news attention. But at least Burning Man has naked chicks.

Stop posting about Second Life.
It's a miserable piece of programming.
Stop giving it the attention it craves until it actually does something to DESERVE it.

I don't 'get' the whole Second Life thing but that was hilarious...worrisome for the Second Life 'company' or whatever runs it but funny to an outsider.

I call for equal time for penises of all colours not just pink ones.

@ 13: Yeah, and I was one of those users who, like 1,000,000+ others, signed in once, got bored after 5 minutes, and never signed in again.

Dipshit.

I don't understand Second Life...How can you just create anything? It doesn't make sense to me. What are the tools like to do this?

I went to her site and decided to see if there was any mention of the incident on the forums. Instead, the forum had been spammed with links to porn sites, each written as a new topic. I also found a topic called "Website down?", written before the spamming. I wonder if the guys who griefed the interview also spammed the site after crashing it for a few hours?

The attack was perpetrated by the lastest alt of Plastic Duck of W-HAT, the group that somethingawful.com supports as a griefing group in SL. Dozens of their members have been banned for crashing the whole grid and perpetrating the most outrageous griefing on residents.

@ 16:

http://secondlife.com/whatis/create.php

I was wondering the same thing. Seems like there are tools in the program, like tools in a 3d program, to create pretty much anything you want.

This is the funniest thing I've seen in months. What a creative way to attack someone, manipulate the SL system and get global attention for your deeds. Brilliant. Wrong, but brilliant.

BAHAHAHA. I was actually there for this, didn't figure it would actually make the "news"...

The best part was the host's reaction - sitting there helpless shouting "would you PLEASE stop that".
