this isnt really generous so these people will bid the hell out of each other because they think there chances are greater, a real generous thing would have been to just donate it.

hes going to make a killing or break even.

I wonder how much he'll make on the ads he has on his site while this craze for his PS3 goes on?

@Joe

They can't bid the hell out of each other, since it's BUY IT NOW for $1. Ever even used Ebay before?

Watch for a Joystiq update next week when its discovered that the "deserving winner" put the PS3 on Ebay. After 50 bids he gets 2 grand and later buys a 360, a Wii and 15 games for each system. Its going to be a Merry Christmas indeed!

@Sithlet

If you have seen the interviews, he says he will use the money from the ads to fly the PS3 to the winner, and any extra will be donated to his local charities.

Well according to alexa, the site is getting nearly half a million pageviews a day, so his ads are probably bringing in a pretty penny.

What's to stop random people mailing made up sob stories to try and get it? It's heartless, but there are people out there who wouldn't think twice about doing it if it got them a PS3 for $1.

If you have a computer, the internet and frequent E-bay and such you are NOT a " needy person" this Christmas.

This idiot is nothing more than an opportunist. Spend 1500 on FOOD for the starving, cloths for poor you jack ass. Me? I didn't buy a console to pretend to give it way for charity. I donated my time and my money to homeless center. Gave to the food bank.

I can not WAIT to hear about that " POOR" little boy or girl who gets to hook up this PS3 next to their other gaming consoles, possibly on a HDTV, this Christmas.

Stupid vain opportunist. How many homeless people did he drive by on his way home after picking up that PS3?

@Santa
Good kids are not getting the Xobox360 because it's really an Xbox 1.5 and that's why the PS2 is still outselling it. The good kids are not getting a Wii which is an overglorified Gamecube with gimmick contollers.See you can hate everything if you put your loser mind to it.

Here's my favorite part:

"I was initially going to list this PS3 for $1 million, with 90 percent going to charity..."

Translation: Once my scheme to make one hundred thousand dollars off of my PS3 fell through, I went to plan B. Generate enough ad revenue off of my site to make back the $1,500 I blew on a crappy console that tanked in the secondhand market.

I do love the online culture, a guy practically gives away over 700$ of gear, and at the time of this writing 11/13 comments on the story are written with the intension of:

A. Trying to be a wise ass

B. Making the guy seem just as bad as the assholes that ebay ps3's for an unfair income.

C. seeing it as just another opportunity to take a stab at sony/ proclaim there love for sony

Good thing its not around christmas time or it would really make you lose faith in the christmas spirit.

FYI even if he is getting income from advertising, it doesn't change the fact that some lucky person is going to get a one dollar ps3, everyone is a winner.

Been visiting joystiq for nearly a year now and this is my first comment guys, thanks for making me feel good.

Wiggydee: People are pointing out that this "gift" is not as genuine as it may seem. READ: Attention whore. Yeah sure, he is donating; a good cause no doubt. But that cause is marred by the fact that is receiving something else in return, which really contradicts the definition of donation. Not to mention being absolutely vain in the process.

Get a clue. Hopefully that was your LAST post as well, noob.

Warning: Gifts are only accepted from Mother Theresa. If you are not Mother Theresa, you may have ulterior motives for your gift and your gift will not be considered 'good'. For example, if you are not giving anonymously then you per definition desire to have your name connected to goodness and upheld and admired, which means your motive is not 'good' but rather 'selfish'. In this case you're an ass and your gift is worthless. This naturally extends to companies who can per definition not exercise giving motivated by 'good' if they tried a thousand years.

However, even if you do give anonymously you may still be motivated by 'selfish' rather than 'good', for example, if the motivation you have for giving is that you want yourself to feel good. If you have some desire to feel good yourself, then that is your motivation, and claims to alternative motivations such as genuine goodness fall flat. This may even apply subconciously regardless of what you believe yourself. The requirements to be 'good' is thus twofold: 1) you MUST give anonymously, and 2) you MUST pass a psychological exam to determine if the motivation for giving was to make yourself feel good rather than to do good. If you don't pass these then you may just as well stick your gift back up your ass because that is per definition where it comes from.

You may all guess why I never give anything to anyone, ever.

Oh, I forgot to mention - if you are seeking words of acknowledgement and gratitude for a gift you give, for example "thank you" or similar, then that's maybe the very best flag that your gift was motivated by 'selfish'. If your motivation was not 'selfish' but 'make the other person feel good', then you would not need words such as these, so their expectation is maybe the best sign that the 'gift' was something you shat out for your own enjoyment. But this was hopefully obvious from the argument.

It was a scam. Plain and simple. I think that we should ask eBay to investigate into false advertisement because I clicked the buy it now link like ever 5 seconds too and it was over before I knew it.

I wonder if eBay would see if he added only one person to get it and had a buddy buy it or not.
