Toys "R" Us: $100 gift card with Xbox 360 purchase
If you're having trouble finding a Wii and/or a PS3 for your loved ones this Christmas, Toys "R" Us has two possible solutions for you. Solution one: wait for one of the "thousands" of Wii and PS3 consoles the toy giant is promising this week. Solution two: buy a 360.We know, you were waiting for that rumored price cut (which is still a ways off by the way) but TRU is offering a free $100 gift card* when you buy an Xbox 360 in-store by December 24. Sure, it's not a price drop, but it's almost as good -- especially when you factor in all the extra kit you'll be wanting, like the comically priced WiFi adapter (conveniently enough, $100). Rather have the cash? Don't forget about Microcenter's $100 mail-in-rebate, good through December 31.
*TRU's small print: "Not valid on "R" Express or phone orders. Gift card valid on your next visit. See back of card for Terms & Conditions. Void where prohibited. Offer valid 12/17-12/24/06. Limit one per customer. Limited quantities available. Sorry, no rain checks. Sale prices valid December 17-24, 2006."
[Thanks, nodnetni]

If you want the free money...but the 360, get the $100 gift card, return the 360, keep the $100 and spend it on other stuff.
I am VERY tempted to do that...
Pip @ Dec 20th 2006 1:21PM
This is going to move whatever units are left on the shelves. $100 gift card is a HUGE deal. Those sitting on the fence will see a stack of games for free.
Ian @ Dec 20th 2006 1:29PM
So, this'll work in canada too right?
Hamicide @ Dec 20th 2006 1:37PM
I'm about 100% sure you can't do that BlindsideDork.
If you return the system, it shows on the receipt that you got a free giftcard also, so you have to return the giftcard with the system, or they will just give you back $100 less than what you paid.
Mark C. @ Dec 20th 2006 1:45PM
No units available at TRU anymore. They convinently sold out already. Go figure.
melcrose @ Dec 20th 2006 1:49PM
Get giftcard.
Buy 100$ lego set.
Return lego set.
Walk out with cash.
Works at walmart when they force you into a gift card for a return.
Maxathon @ Dec 20th 2006 1:50PM
That ad also says the unit features an "upgradeable 20GB hard drive." I'm not sure of the wording MS has used in the past, but is this some sort of assumptionor admission on Toys R Us' part that a larger HD will be available soon at retail?
Everyone seems to be acknowledging that this is necessary, especially given the push for downloadable content. I've heard speculation that MS is holding off as long as possible because 20 gig drives are so cheap that they're driving a lot of the recently recouped cost of manufacturing the premium units.

Keep in mind if you do the Microcenter thing, you can also apply for a credit card from them for an extra $100 back. $400 - 100 rebate - 100 credit card promo = $200 premium system! I'm going to pick one up tonight or tomorrow. The Fairfax store is about an hour away, but it's worth that much at least to get this kind of deal.
DeejayKnight @ Dec 20th 2006 2:09PM
That's not a bad price. If I didn't already have a 360, i'd consider getting it just because of the extra stuff that you can get with $100.
I agree, though, that they'll have to start making largetr HDDs. Hi-Def downloads being so large, soon they won't have too much choice.

Stack of games? Umm, $100 could only buy you ONE 360 game cause you know, they cost $60, leaving you with $40.
#5 - Hamicide
Yeah I doubt they would let you..but the thought is nice! Who wouldn't want a FREE $100 gift card?

Yeah, same thing happened when they did that Final Fantasy day. Final Fantasy 3 for DS was said to be $20 but magically was unavailable the WHOLE day. Next day price and availibity was the same until later it said product in stock but price went back to $40.
I think they are lying to the public and just hide the consoles during those periods of time.
Britbloke @ Dec 20th 2006 2:29PM
That's not a great deal.
In Canada, for the week of the 25th Dec, Rogers Video is dropping the price of the Premium bundle (which includes GRAW and Arcade Unplugged) by $100 CDN AND giving away a free copy of Gears of War.
Two great games, plus some Arcade fun, for $100 less than regular price.
That's the way you do a promo, TRU!
Mike @ Dec 20th 2006 2:29PM
just tell best buy about the microcenter 100$ rebate and they will sell you the system for 300,
Aex @ Dec 20th 2006 2:43PM
I drove an hour and a half to microcenter to get my xbox 360 for $200. It was worth it :)

** BlindSideDork -- I got FF3 and FF12 with no problems at my TRU. It's not really the store's fault if the deal is so overadvertised on VG-deal Web sites that people descend in droves to snap up the games first thing in the morning.
When I bought both games, I got there only about 40 minutes after the store opened, and the register worker told me, "Yeah, we've had people coming in all morning with these coupons."
raging_evil @ Dec 20th 2006 3:03PM
This came out this past Sunday. It's a good deal and don't worry about Toys 'R Us not having any. Best Buy will honor that ad as well. That's what I did and I used the 100 dollars to get the wireless adapter.
TicalWRX @ Dec 20th 2006 3:18PM
I went to my local TRU on Sunday morning and took advantage of this deal. I dont know if they had more units out back, but they only had like 6 in the glass case next to the register. I know in the morning, me and 2 other people bought the 360. I went back later on in the day and they only had 1 left.
BlindsideDork @ Dec 20th 2006 3:33PM
Lunker
I went to my TRU and they said it was ONLINE only and that someone had tried to buy it earlier that morning and they said it came up as $39.99.
But IF I did want that deal, I would try Best Buy, cause they have a HUGE stock pile that would probably make a super great fort if positioned just right. It is seriously like around 5 feet tall and there is more in the front, I think they requested too many.
Maleldil @ Dec 20th 2006 3:42PM
Son of a bitch. I just bought a 360 from Gamestop on Saturday for 400. I couldn't gotten Gears of War and an extra controller for what I paid jsut for the damn system. Dammit dammit dammit...
AK @ Dec 20th 2006 4:08PM
Blindside, you are not limited to "ONE 360 game" with a $100 gift card.
Games eventually come down in price you know.
Table Tennis is $39, Burnout Revenge is $29, Kameo is $29, Condemned is $29, Need for Speed MW is $29, PGR3 is $29, Perfect Dark Zero is $29, XBL Arcade Unplugged is $39. Last years sports games are priced between $19-29.
How is that limited to "only ONE 360 game"?
Gordon Fraser @ Dec 20th 2006 4:15PM
I just got a premium system at TRU with the gift card. I bought the system first. I then purchased the other items in my cart. I have gift receipts for everything. How many times may premium system gifts be purchased and returned? ;)
dez_mick @ Dec 20th 2006 4:53PM
The fine print says; "Ugradeable 20GB Hard Drive". Hmmm....Is Toys R Us spillin' the beans on something here?
HenryJonesJr @ Dec 20th 2006 6:01PM
It's "upgradable" because it's removable. No beans being spilled.
Snare @ Dec 20th 2006 6:37PM
Believe it or not the sales guy at Best Buy actually told my friend and I about the TRU promo and offered to match it for my friend! He was a cool guy.
Donkey Kong @ Dec 20th 2006 6:51PM
1 week to spend a $100 gift certificate? Ridiculous.
iLLWiLL @ Dec 20th 2006 7:07PM
Hold your horses BlindsideDork!. Your measurements are under the influence. You see... if you buy the system for $400+tax, then they give you a $100 gift card to use on your next adventure at TRU. When you return and kick in the doors on your way to the CS counter to return the 360, they'll kindly give you your refund, minus $100 for the gift card that you secured the day b-4. What did you just do?...you made two trips to TRU just to buy a $100 gift card.
James @ Dec 21st 2006 1:22AM
or use the $100 gift card and get a HD-DVD player for $99. Eat that Sony.....
