People will go to extreme lengths just to get a decent D-pad for their 360. It's fairly common knowledge that the D-pad is the worst feature of the otherwise outstanding 360 controller. Xbox 360 Fanboy regular, SuicideNinja, has submitted a simple, non-destructive method for improving this unfortunate problem. All that is required are the tools to crack open your control and some double-sided mounting tape. The tape is applied underneath the base of the D-pad, with only the bottom adhesive exposed. This mod focuses on making the D-pad stiffer, rather than broadening its range of movement. According to SuicideNinja, the mod is strange at first, but can improve games like Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat significantly. Any brave souls willing to try this out and give us a report? A stiff and sticky D-pad mod

Mine Works Fine With The Wireless Control
It Also Works Fine With My MadCatz Wired Controler Maybe Is Just The Original Wired Control Because I Don't Have A Problem With The Other Two Controlers When I Play Mortal Kombat

I updated the post; I think I'll need to use some rubber feet instead for durability.
We have a wireless controller from December '06, April '06, and November '05, all with horrible d-pads, so I don't think they fixed it. I'm sure some people can just adjust to it; I'm not so skilled ;). Now I just need to get the tool to disassemble them.
"Flam-mer" "master"-bating...no spelling bee awards for that one. Education must be "gay" as well then?

Be really careful with the screws in the controller. Some places tell you to use a phillips. You might get the screws out, but you'll probably strip them in the process. Stick with torx. I think the controller uses a size 8.
Something I noted about the screws: in the center of some of them on every one of my controllers, a little prong of metal sticks out. I think this is just a left over piece from production. You can bend the prong so it falls out, but if it is in there, you actually can use a flathead screwdriver pretty safely on it.
That description might make little sense, but you'll see it if you look closely at the screws.

They are called "security torx, bits". The little piece of metal is intentional and there are special torx drivers you can buy that will remove them without going through the hassle of trying to remove the "prong".
