Real stars in Wii weather
Gamer, Josef Faulkner poked around in the Wii Forecast Channel, discovering that the stars generally correlate to actual astronomy patterns. He identified a few constellations, including Orion and Ursa Major on his Wii.Have you tagged other constellations? Southern Hemisphere gamers, are your stars in the right place?

I knew there had to be a reason for the (c) NASA for the image.

#3, it's more likely that the NASA copyright is because of satellite photos or something like that rather tha the stars.
Pretty neat little feature though. Say what you like about Nintendo but you can't fault them for attention to detail.

You know, an astronomy channel with which one may play could be really fun.

I wonder how many people rushed to make a Patrick Moore Mii after reading this?

"Out 'neath the arms of Cassiopeia,
Where the sword of Orion sweeps,
It's me and you, Rosie, cracklin' like crossed wires,
And you breathin' in your sleep,
You breathin' in your sleep"

I don't think what hemisphere you live on makes a difference when you are looking from outside the globe, rather than from the Earth's surface.
Also I thought most NASA imagery was not under copyright. I guess whatever maps they are using are a special case though.

In other news, Joystiq is having a slow day...

#5, Fricken seconded dude, that would be awesome probably cause I'm a bit of a space nut.
Mats @ Dec 21st 2006 2:38PM
Then comes the question: Does it show Uranus?
White Rose Duelist @ Dec 21st 2006 4:04PM
In a trite way, Mats hit on a point. Anyone know if other celestial bodies are at the expected location? Stars could be done as a static image, since they change so little, but planets would take a bit of work.
/count me in for "space nuts"

When I first used this channel I immediately saw (like a lot of us I'm sure) that this could turn into an awesome educational piece of software covering the solar system or galaxy.
