This is only the beginning.
MS has vowed to not lose the console war and they have the $$ to stand behind that. YEARS ago, I waited and waited after press release after press release for the PS3 and all its Cell/RSX glory... AND THEN I got TIRED of waiting.
As of today, anyone who has seen the performance of the 360, experienced the encompassing experience that Live has become (I am at work and can still see what my friends are playing and send them msgs) and developed a group of friends that they enjoy playing with HAS LITTLE to ZERO reason to need a PS3. Why? Becase AT BEST, the PS3 will spend the next THREE years MINIMUM, just trying to match the 360 experiences. What we are seeing now is very scary for Sony and that is developers and producers losing faith in the take rate and install base of the PS3. What is worse is that it is a downward spiral....small installed base = developers fearing losses on PS3 = less games exclusive (or AT ALL) for the PS3 = worse and worse and worse. The funny thing is that Sony is convinced that their PUSH what Sony wants YOU to have strategy still works... Anyone out there using ATRAC music files these days??? But they are still around aren't they...

Bye Bye Sony.

Chimp O Death FTW! LOL!

That sums up the issue right there. The Wall Street Journal had a lengthy article about what's gotten investors concerned...namely that Sony (mainly Kutaragi) refused to give confirmations that developers needed to go exclusive with the PS3...and so companies like Ubisoft and Sega walk away in frustration to Microsoft, who's glad to catch them on the rebound.

Sony has a lot of ground to cover, fixing their own mistakes. Microsoft isn't taking the market from them, Sony is handing it over on a platter.

this is huge. VF5, Gran Turismo series and God of War were the ONLY Sony exclusive series that I wished for on the 360. I've got 1/3 of my wish now.

This is a huge coup for Microsoft. The VF series has a big fan base and there were people waiting to get a ps3 just for this series. Now that it's not exclusive, what reason to they have to spend more for a ps3?

I never really wanted to play this game... Not a big loss... MGS 4, FF XIII, KH3, God of War 3, Ratchet and Clank, Lair, Motor Storm and many others are all good exclusives.

Although I've had no intention of buying a Playstation 3 at this time. I was disappointed that Virtua Fighter 5 was a PlayStation 3 Exclusive. However, I'm thrilled that I can now enjoy it on my Xbox 360.

@B33

Why do you put so much effort in defending Sony? I know one thing - Microsoft angers you, and they anger you a lot.

But why? You're not a stupid guy, I'm sure. Don't make yourself look stupid because of Sony.

Hey man! feck Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. I bet you'll be a happy gamer no matter what the outcome of this gen is. You don't owe Sony anything, they owe you!

"The reason is simple: remember Capcom's statement - in order for a game to turn a profit, they must sell 500,000 copies."

Actually, it was Namco, and the 500,000 copies had to do with their port of Ridge Racer. Not a completely new game from the ground up.

Probably won't affect ps3 sales, but Sega's gonna make a whole lot more!

Jake:

"What I really want to know is if the 360 version is online. If so, how well will it work. A lot of people in the PS3 VF thread claimed a technical fighter like VF wouldn't work, even though a game like Rainbow six works with 16 people, bullets and bodies everywhere, explosions, etc with little lag. But "a figher with two people using single button input would never work"

If you still can't comprehend this, read my post again in the first VF thread. My post explaining this should be comment # 35.

This is good news to me. Wish Capcom and Konami will follow suit. Now if this continues, this might put a damp on Sony's gaming future, oh fanboys are starting to cry, ;(

Um, the Ps3 only has roughly 600,000 units sold so far and some stores have reported their sales of the 60 and 20 gig units have slowed down considerable (I've found some instock myself at local Gamestops and EB stores). So DBX00 is wrong in that reguard. Also wrong in his count is the Xbox 360's sales along with the Wii's. The 360 went from 4 million to 8 million within the last two quaters of the fiscal year of 2006 (thanks to games like Gears and Dead Rising) while the Wii has rocketed in the short moments after the ps3's launch to roughly 2.5 million units and still growing. Software studios will be looking at the largest possible installment base for their franchises, even if it means forgoing fanbases at times (look at Tribes franchise) and going with the largest installbase would equal the best possible chance to make a profit with the least ammount of risk. This is exactly why the ps2 became the established market leader in the current-gen race as the other systems either didn't support a targeted demograph or didn't have the installment base the studio or publisher desired.

On that note, having VF5 on both consoles IS a strong and smart move as it lessens the risk of failure for the game as long as it's a well developed one for both platforms.
