I dont even know what resistance is about.....honestly I could care less....
This contest was over before it started, it would be alot more worthwhile to compare Halo3 vs. Gears That is worth something b/c PS3 doesnt have a single damn game that would force me to shell out 600 smackers on it..
Just my objective 2 cents

As good/great as gears is, isn't it a little unfair considering there aren't as many ps3's as copies of gears. This would be fair if anyone who wanted to could buy both systems and games.

Oh my god...

That is not even fair! Resistance just looks downright bad in a lot catagories! I mean I thought it was at least a decent FPS, but it just looks... I dunno, Daikatana comes to mind at the such of this mediocrity.

Yea I'm a pretty big 360 fanboy but I thought Resistance at least looked good. Wow... just wow.

Why is there no category for "campaign". GOW is extrememly flawed in many way in campaign mode, where I believe Resistance shines.
Graphics can be tossed up to taste. Simply because Resistance isn't bright and shiny colors doesn't make it graphically weak.

For arguments sake I would hand Resistance the nod on campaign mode, AI because of the AI's ability to learn your style of play and adjust to it, and vehicles.
Everything else goes to GOW, and GOW still would remain the over all winner
Though I think a more fair versus would be Resistance against a 360 FPS. These two games are drastically different and meant to be played differently. Maybe next year we can see a Halo 3 vs. Resistance 2 face off.

Resistance rarely has any communication online. People join a lobby and everyone runs around holding the trigger down.

So in rough online terms, you're effectively saying that Resistance: Fall of Man, is for noobs? LOL, just kidding. I actually really want to play that game.

Reminds me of a drunken argument last night about the Xbox controller vs the PS2 controller for Tiger Woods...the PS2 analogs are way less accurate and sensitive, in effective making them "easier" for the game. Does it have something to do with that? I switch between both versions just fine, but the other guy can't use the 360 controller...

Scott,

Get over it, will you? It seems that every time I read a post of yours, you're always complaining about some failing of the Xbox 360's hardware, services, or software. If an Xbox 360 game trumps anything made by Sony, you're the first to hint at some conspiracy theory that Bill Gates swayed the votes of the poll or fabricated a chart in his favor even though he's no longer a part of Microsoft; he retired, remember? I mean, it must be unfathomable for MS to have a good product with a game people seem to enjoy more over the competitions'. That must be why MS is selling a consistent and respectable amount of units each month while people are returning PS3s for Wiis and 360 bundles. If the Xbox 360 and all that encompass it are really as bad as you make them about to be, why do you even take the time necessary to complain? I'm certain if MS bought every game that's currently available and those that will be released in the future, paid for a lifetime's worth of Live, paid for your console and every certified accessory with lifetime warranties with a 1080p TV that had VGA to sweeten the deal, you'd still find a way to complain.

Every one of your posts is tantamount to, "B*tch, b*tch, b*tch, b*tch, and b*tch some more." Are you entitled to your opinion? Sure, but everyone eventually grows weary of your perpetual complaints since they rarely contribute anything constructive to a current topic; if it's not, again, introducing some MS conspiracy theory or complaining about how unfair or biased an article or poll is if it's not in Sony's favor, you've got nothing to talk about. You're like a more literate, linguistically sophisticated version of Matchbox (a.k.a, 360 flammer); no matter what MS does in regards to the Xbox 360 or what games are released for it, it's always wrong somehow.

As for AI, I've played R:FOM and there was more than one occasion where an enemy NPC was so damn incompetent it couldn't find its way up a staircase (and probably couldn't fight its way out of a wet paper bag); with Gears, the AI was at least challenging. There were many times the Locust distracted my co-op partner and I with suppressive fire while sending a drone (or two) to flank us. If we didn't lay down our own lines of suppressive fire, the came at us both en masse. With the AI, we actually had to come up with some sort of strategy. Is it perfect? By no means is it, however, it's still better than that offered in R:FOM. If you're going to blame anyone for the chart/poll's AI score, you should blame Insomniac for not putting as much time and effort into the game's AI as it could have.

And your complaint about the cover scheme...what do you want the Locust to do Scott? Stand out in the open with a big red target stamped on their chests screaming, "Shoot me!"? It's more realistic to pop off of a few shots, take cover, and move to other vantage points to lay down more suppressive fire than it is to stand straight up and empty a clip; it's how soldiers are taught to fight in real life. Running and gunning like Rambo only works for Rambo. If a soldier was dumb enough to do that in reality, he'd get torn to shreds by enemy fire so quickly he wouldn't have the time necessary to void his bowels and see his life flash before his eyes.

Lastly, if all you do is incessantly whine in your posts, just go over to PS3fanboy, alright? They need more people like you to make them feel like their $500-$600 expenditures are more valid than anyone else's console purchase.

"Smart Enemies that Yell "I'm reloading""

Assuming this is sarcastic you find this in many games, for example Rainbow Six Las Vegas. What they are doing is informing their allies that they are reloading so their teammates can cover them because they can't shoot. This is clever and I like that.

That video is so bias towards PS3. They didn't really mention the chainsaw and they didn't show Gears' 'Grenade Tagging' in the grenade section.

I thought the whole video was poor, why didn't they commentate it instead of making me read the annoying white text?

That's just my two cents,

Merry Christmas.

And Badger, acually Anubis is right, Bill Gates relinquished his title as CEO to MS President Steve Ballmer on January 13, 2000. And back on topic, I believe that the vote is by the people, so everyone that is complaining about it take it up with Insomniac for not making there game as good as GoW!

Badger,

Gates has little, if any say in regards to the goings on with Microsoft currently. If he did, do you honestly think he would've allowed Ballmer to spout off what's tantamount to, "We own Linux!"? No, because any sane person would realize Ballmer's statement perpetuates the belief and reinforces the sentiment among the general public that MS really is the evil OS empire of the world; Ballmer's comment just turned away thousands of people that were thinking about buying Vista (because the kernel was, at the time, secured and off-limits to everyone) or Novell's Linux.

Gates would've done all he could to make the deal look like a good thing, a cooperation between two rival OSs to keep themselves out of the waters of litigation due to patent infringement (most people believe two individuals will ultimately come to the same conclusion on how to solve a problem even if they aren't aware of each other's actions). Thanks to Ballmer, it looks like a cop-out on Novell's part due to MS flexing its legal muscle based on nothing more than speculation. Which looks more appealing to the non-tech savvy consumer? Cop-out to a bully, or two rival companies working together on the issue of patent infringement so they can continue to deliver the goods people want? One's a PR nightmare, the other isn't.

If Gates was at the helm, do you think he would've praised the Ipod over Zune as much as he has recently? No, he would've taken the time necessary to explain that, while the Ipod's a good product, the Zune can do everything it does and then some. If Gates was in power, do you think he would comment negatively on DRM even though such a statement would leave a black mark on every MS (and Apple for that matter) product? No, he'd go to length on stating how DRM is a necessity because it protects consumers by preventing people from getting bastardized versions of his company's OS or to keep the digital piracy of music and films to a minimum. The only affiliation he really has with Microsoft right now is appearing in publicity shoots here and there. Every business decision is ultimately Ballmer's now, for better of worse.

Flyguy,

Is that a complement, or a demeaning remark carefully disguised within a complement? lol. I'm curious to find out. As for the "controlled rage"...this just happens to be the way I normally write and, despite its length, such as method has served me very well. Though my posts may be tiresome to read and come off angry (with the exception of those aimed at Matchbox, they're not intended to), any point to be made is eventually realized by the reader. Besides, you try only getting three hours of sleep the night before Christmas Eve because you spent most of that time staring into stomach-colored toilet water due to food poisoning. You'd be so fed up with holiday cheer that the only mood you'd be in would be to jam Rudolph so far up Santa's ass that red light would beam from his nostrils for decades to come. Since this website brings me some amusement (and serves as distraction to keep from focusing on a churning stomach), I will not tolerate the likes of Scott b*tching; I was tired of it beforehand, I'm sick of it now. Anyway, have merry and safe Christmas (or other religious or non-denominational holiday) as well as a happy New Year.

Wow Anubis, let me explain my view before you go all Fanboy.

I hear they Call Gears a "Thinking Mans Shooter"
Let me Translate that For You.
That is for Almost Smart People Trying to Convince themselves that they are Smarter than they Really are. In my Opinion.

I think all day at work. The Last Thing I want to do is think While I am Gaming.

I would Rather Chainsaw my way through the Whole Game, Running Guns Blazing. Unfortunately Gears will not let me do this. I HAVE to take Cover.

I have Played Both these Games and Personally I think Resistance is better.
Now there is no Reason to Get Crazy Fanboy on me, it is just that the Gameplay in Resistance Suits me Better. I personally would rate Resistance a 9.8 and Gears a 8.5, that is Just my Opinion. I Love the Halo Games, especially Combat Evolved. I think a lot of things in Gears are Annoying. I say I like Resistance better, You Read it as 360 Bashing, which is simply not True. Sometimes for whatever the reason people have different tastes.

That is just my opinion, but typically I do not Like Strategy, RPG, MMORPG. If I am gaming the Last thing I want to do is Think. The second to last thing I want to do is hide like a little girl behind cover. I wanna out Strafe the Enemy in a All out slugfest.

So when somebody says they think Resistance is better, don't go all Fanboy on them, just know that there are varying tastes.

As far as me Complaining about 360, I complain about my 360, I complain about my PS3. The Reason I do this is so the Companies will fix the Problems and so my systems will get the little problems Patched and so they will improve future consoles. I have been B*tching like Crazy about the Lack of a Remote for My PS3. I don't want to watch Movies with a Game Controller. Sometimes B*tching is a good thing, if It brings Shortcomings to the Attention of the Console Makers.

Scott,

I didn't go "crazy fanboy" on you for preferring Resistance over Gears. If Resistance suits your gaming tastes more so than the other game, more power to you; you made the right choice in picking a game that YOU enjoy. Resistance is a good game in its own right; I prefer Gears simply because the cover system feels so much more natural than running and gunning. I went off on you because you did complain without merit. People just seem to enjoy Gears, even if only by a small margin, over Resistance. Instead of debating it, just accept it. Furthermore, and take no offense when I say this, you don't seem to know the difference between constructive criticism and complaining.

When you play a game and say, "This works, this doesn't work, and this is what should be improved upon in future iterations,” it’s creative criticism. You're comparing the pros and cons against each other, but it doesn't ruin your day. When you complain, you blow the most insignificant flaw so far out of proportion that any positive automatically gets outweighed by the negative. Constructive criticism gives developers and MS a chance to learn from their mistakes in order to release a better product; most, if not all of the complaints with the original Xbox (controller, size, aesthetics, dashboard, etc) were heard and the Xbox 360 doesn’t suffer from its predecessor’s deficiencies in those areas. Most of the complaints with Gears, from AI to framerate issues, were resolved by Epic. By complaining, you're ensuring that any individual in a position of power, whether it's a developer of a CEO at MS, will ignore you.

Your remark about the cover system used as the primary game play mechanic for everyone (you and the NPCs) isn't criticism, it's complaining. You knew Gears of War was a third person tactical shooter that uses a cover system months before you even played the game, since that core game play mechanic was heavily touted by Epic. You knew the game play wouldn’t suit your tastes even before you even booted it up, so why complain?

Oh, and for your "That is for Almost Smart People Trying to Convince themselves that they are Smarter than they Really are" remark, two things. 1) You should've spellchecked before you decided to trade barbs, and 2) don't even think for an instant you can deride my intelligence, because you will lose each time. To put my money where my mouth is, I graduated valedictorian of my class and was offered $150,000 worth of scholarships for my academic achievements; I turned the scholarships down so I could move up to Canada and marry my fiancée of three years (which I did last month on the 20th). That, and I didn't want to be tied to a University that won't give me the best education available in the field of medicine. I wrote a 48 pages thesis (later edited down to 43 pages) for the mandatory local reading comprehension assessment in 24 hours and passed effortlessly. On the ACT, with only three hours of sleep and without the benefit of having studied a single subject prior to testing, my composite score was 26 out of 36 on my first attempt when I was a sophomore (10th grade). My highest score was 32 out of 36 for what was essentially English, and my lowest was 24 in mathematics due to the absence of a calculator. Most people, even those that have pre-tests and study guides at their disposal, fail the ACT or score below an average of 21 points on their first try as juniors or seniors (which are the recommended grades for ACT testing). My composite scores for the ASVAB, which were taken the same year, were each within the top five percentile.

Could I have done better? If I had bothered to retake the tests, my scores would’ve been much higher. However, that would’ve cost money I’d rather not have spent; I did better as a sophomore than most seniors did when they took their tests, so I was rather content with the scores I had. This is not my way of calling you stupid or ignorant. I'm simply saying that if you're trying to undermine my statements with a, "You're not as smart as you think you are" type comment, you really need to reconsider since you don’t seem to be in a position to do so currently.

In regards to your PS3 remote, one will be available soon but it’s, to my knowledge, Bluetooth only. Hopefully Sony decides to include IR along side it, as Bluetooth is pretty much worthless in interacting with a living room appliance that isn’t a computer. However, considering Sony's attitude as of late (even you have to admit they treat their customers like filth), don't expect to see that happen. And I agree, watching movies while using a gamepad is rather tedious.

Thehondaboy,
Gates doesn’t have nearly as much say in Microsoft as he used to because he resigned from his post. Steven Ballmer is currently the head CEO of MS, and as such, any business decision ultimately leads to him for approval. If Gates was in as much power as you say he is, he would’ve told Steve to keep his mouth shut and show some slight inkling of professionalism in regards how he does business. From statements such as, “I’m going to f*cking kill Google” to “We own Linux”, Ballmer has seemingly put as much effort into making Microsoft look like an evil OS monopoly as Bill has in softening the company’s image to be more consumer friendly. Bill was a cut-throat shark who ruthlessly destroyed his competitors in his time, but he was at least a somewhat respectable businessman (that is to say, he showed some small amount of respect); Ballmer is a stark, raving jackass. Gates may sit on the board of directors for now (he’s officially leaving Microsoft in 2008), but most of his time is focused on philanthropy and not business.

Comparing Gears of War to Resistance: Fall of Man is like back in the day when you compared lunches to the kid next to you. On the left is a loaded roast beef and turkey sub (Gears of War) and on the right is a jelly sandwich(jelly sandwich). Its a no brainer and I'm sorry but Sony screwed up bigtime. I have a ps2 and was planning on always getting the ps3 until I played the 360 and found out everything about it is better. Even the controller has become better then the all-hailed dual-shock style sixaxis. Shooters are my specialty and they have always been my favorite game. I have never found one I thought was as much fun online as Quake 3 Arena till I played GoW. My name on Q3A was s1lent_assass1n aka enVy in case any of you played it. Yes I was a badass player. Anyways its only going to get better with Halo3 and Gears of War2. I just hope it gets better for the ps3 for all the people who blew over a half grand for their system.

R:FOM isn't that great at all. Many people may say, "Z0MFG L00l33rs L00k 4t t3h t3xtur3s and t3h ve-hick-ular gameplay." I'd tell them to shut the fuck up and stick to the action and entertainment a game actually gives you and not the snazzy "after-shave". Gears of War would be a great game even without the "textures" and the "lighting" and the "HDR Bloom" affect. I mean imagine a stick war where you could duck, blind-fire, lean out fire, duck back in, reload, wait for another noobay to stick his head up, and then pop another cap. You just can't compare this kind of immersive gameplay with some shitty "spray-and-pray" work up.

Now I want you to imagine, R:FOM, as a stick shooter. You start out with your classy-ass machine gun. You see another ( perhaps different color ) stick man and you fire at him. After empty 1 1/2 clips on him he dies. I mean what the fuck? Imagine more of these "enemy sticks" what the fuck are you going to do? SPRAY-AND-PRAY.
