Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: the Big N edition [update 1]
With all the talk recently, you'd think Wii-related injuries placed up there with alcoholism and BASE jumping as serious health risks. Yet Nintendo's name has remained unfazed, and they've managed to take bad press and turn it into good momentum and consumer hype. Crafty.Webcomics are doing their share to emulate the mainstream media's focus, so we're bringing you a weekly wrapup that is 100% Nintendo -- and we did it while leaving very few webcomics behind (sorry, RPG TV).
Here our picks for the best Nintendo-related webcomics this week; be sure to vote for your favorite!

[Update 1: Blame it on the eggnog, but in the results page I had renamed the DeviantArt selection to "RPG TV" -- it's a catchy name, what can I say? Obviously, people are voting for the strip by its content and not its title, so just pretend it says "Deviant Art," as I can't change the name without resetting all the votes. Sorry for the confusion, folks.]

Penny Arcade honestly made me laugh. A lot. It's unfortuante that I shared that comic with my coworkers... I had really planned on pulling something like this off.
Easy_G @ Dec 23rd 2006 1:55PM
Wow, 22 panels in that VG cats. Somehow the funny got lost in there.
Ninegauger @ Dec 23rd 2006 2:07PM
It terms of funny, it goes to Penny Arcade, but I thought VG Cats was the best overall.
Honorable mention goes to the "I was raised by birds" one.

If anything, these WII controller stories are only fueling interest among those who may have never even thought about the WII system!
Free publicity ! : )

Btw, Merry Christmas everyone xxx
Infil @ Dec 23rd 2006 2:24PM
The PA one was really good, but I have to vote for the VGCats one, which I honestly think is possibly the best one Scott has ever done. It's up there, anyway.
Many of the others were funny, too.
shMerker @ Dec 25th 2006 12:48AM
I think there's a mistake. The results page has RPGTV, which was not in this poll, but does not seem to include the comic by hail-neko-yasha.
beef @ Dec 23rd 2006 2:39PM
VGcats seems to always have a really well made, funny webcomic, but Penny Arcade seems to always be the funniest.
awa64 @ Dec 23rd 2006 2:41PM
Penny Arcade takes the funny and runs with it this week. VGCats, while incredibly clever, never quiet seemed to hit the funny part this week.
Honorable mention goes to the one on DeviantArt. As for the rest... Wiinjuries are getting played out.
WillyFourEyes @ Dec 23rd 2006 2:44PM
Alas, poor R.O.B. I knew him, Horatio...I just thought his games sucked. My vote's for VGcats, by the way.
action_jay @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:26PM
Props to Nekoyasha for getting her 'Instinct' comic in the running! I've been reading her work for a while, and it's been consistently hilarious. Love it!
chenry @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:26PM
never mention tip of the sword again.
NintendoFanbot @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:28PM
Uh-oh! Someone's voting for Penny-Arcade! Joystiq and other nominated comics, I hope you saved!
*That someone would be me.
Derp @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:35PM
Yeah, VGCats and PennyArcade are getting all the votes, but this time, it's really deserved. "It's RAINING in SAHNGHAI" is a great line, and none of the others are really all that funny. Props to the DeviantArt one, though, it was really clever and cute.
typo @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:40PM
The PA guys are really at top form in that comic. The writing is great, and the art fits perfectly. While I love cheering for the underdogs, Gabe and Tycho really earned my vote this time.
Aex @ Dec 23rd 2006 4:05PM
They were all so great it was very hard to choose. I went with the VGcats one because... welll its just EPIC!
james fear @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:51PM
Is it just me or is the wiimote strap break "humor" getting WAYYYYYY old?
EnLiven @ Dec 23rd 2006 3:53PM
"Shiggy? ...is that you?"
Genious!
Night Elve @ Dec 23rd 2006 5:01PM
I usually don't vote for Penny Arcade but this was so fucking funny. It has my vote :)
Vince @ Dec 23rd 2006 5:19PM
VGCats always has and always will suck. probably one of the worst comics out there.
Wulkar @ Dec 23rd 2006 5:30PM
Wernt you guys going to link penny arcade to the article and comic...you to drunk?(after i read update 1)
Nmaster @ Dec 23rd 2006 5:36PM
Hey guys, thanks for adding Hail-NekoYasha to the running! He makes some really funny ones, and I especially liked this weeks.
For those who haven't read his comics before, check out some of his old ones, some are priceless:

Tried to get into VG cats but i couldn't. I tried, thats what matters. That particular comic i found pretty funny. I'm adding lvl 99 to my list of reads to see if its worth the read, and cause that girl is cute XD
But yeah, "Its raining in Shanghai" is a line for the record books.
Omega2k3 @ Dec 23rd 2006 6:02PM
Using the internet channel, I couldn't even read the last comic. Lame.
CleverConveyence @ Dec 23rd 2006 6:45PM
@NMaster
I'm pretty sure Hail-NekoYasha is a she.
A 15-year-old she.
A 15-year-old she that happens to have the funniest comic up there.

While not a gaming comic, "Something Positive" recently did a very funny Mario-themed strip. Read it here: http://somethingpositive.net/sp12212006.shtml
Volcan @ Dec 23rd 2006 8:11PM
@23
You have to click on it. Same with PCs.
socrates @ Dec 23rd 2006 8:19PM
Allow me to summarize the punchlines for all of these comics, since their humor rests upon the high degree of sophisticaion of these observations:
VG Cats - the Gamecube sucks.
Penny Arcade - the Wii Weather channel exists
The rest - The Wii is so crazy!!
I can't wait for next week's round of hilarity to ensue, when we can delve into comic goldmines like the fact that one game uses the Z-trigger to select things, and another game DOESN'T!!! Or maybe there can be a comic about how many USB ports the PS3 has!!? The sky is the limit!! (and by "sky," I mean inane and obvious facts and/or common fanboy blather about video games)
student @ Dec 23rd 2006 10:49PM
Wow socrates, way to simplify the comics. On a similar note, you can summarize Shakespeares tragedies as "Bad stuff happens." That doesn't sound all that intelligent either.
Come on now... use your brain some.
maxx77 @ Dec 23rd 2006 10:55PM
Go easy on socrates now, he can't help it. He has Wii envy.
Armaina @ Dec 24th 2006 12:42AM
@10
hey kid, have you even -read- any of their other strips? Joystiq didn't exactly pick one of their better ones
for that matter, some of them are kinda 'meh' this lot.
Scallion Negro @ Dec 29th 2006 1:59PM
I cannot understand why people like Penny Arcade and VGcats. Whatever happened to taste?
They're never funny, and this time is no exception.
VGCats comics take forever to get to the point, and Penny Arcade relies on saying "f*ck", using a vocabulary word from a Word-A-Day dictionary, and a gay joke.
At least the "Instinct" one drew out a chuckle.
