I always love looking at the behind the scenes stuff when it comes to making videogames. Halo 3 is no doubt one the most anticipated games of 2007 and I think it's really cool of Bungie to give us a little sneak peak. This game is looking pretty sweet. Oh, and about my comment above, I'm sorry that I went over the 3 Link rule, (I didn't realize until it was too late).

OK, I hated Halo it was a sub par console version of what we'd been playing on the PC for years. But I must this looks pretty sweet.

Makes me wish I could play it right now...

Oh wait, i can! To my suprise I fly out here to WA to visit my brother for the holiday... only to fire up his 360 and see Halo 3 multiplayer beta in his game demo folder! (he works at Microsoft BTW)

It's pretty rough right now, but I'd attribute that to lag seeing as how it's not running directly off of Live's servers. BTW chalk this up as a rumor if you want, but it's coming out in March 06.

BTW i'd take a picture but all the screens are watermarked and he'd more that likely get fired... :(

I'll post again after I get some more time with it!

Then block out the watermarks in Photoshop like people did for the Halo 2 beta. Otherwise, allow me to quote the ancient proverb:
"no pix no pruf"

Basically, no one believes jack if you don't got the pictures to back it up.

Quick #4, mirror screengrabs from the Brute video and superimpose them over a random picture of a TV!

Then save it as a low-quality JPEG and try and pass it off as proof!

gotta be kidding me, looks like thier just trying to get the framerate up at this point, they were terrible for the "gameplay" portions. btw the brutes look really lame. dont know how anybody can get excited off this video. beta in march, retail in may. then i can quit hearing about halo 3, id rather see some bioshock or assasins creed footage, halo is a lame generic product.

Oh yes, because we all know how Halo 1 & 2 were total flops, don't we, ominojacu & kmo?

Bungie was kind enough to release this footage so that Halo fans could get a glimpse into the game, not so some moronic dimwits could bash it in their feeble attempts to disuade someone from buying the game when it comes out a year from now.

To be honeset, Bungie needs more people like you to bash Halo.. Maybe that way, they can keep the hype to a moderate level so when the game actually comes out, people will be even more blown away then they would have been otherwise.

@killr0y,

Halo's gameplay isn't really any different from others. Other FPS (especially PC ones) puts its game play to shame. What is true, is that it has a really good storyline and decent graphics.

@Ndric
if halo's gameplay is like every other shooter, than how come every shooter isnt played heavily for 2 years? The story is great, but its the multiplayer that makes the game shine. others try to imitate, but fail miserably.

there almost NO PC games that out its gameplay to shame. none. just becauset hey are on the PC platform does not give it any higher standards or any of the such. the only competitor it has right now, is half-life and thats it. a game worthy of two fanboys arguing over which is better with no clear winner. those are the two top FPSs in existance right now. i suggest you deal with it.

With the exception of the original Perfect Dark for N64, the Halo series is easily the greatest first person shooter ever. You've got:
-Great graphics
-Interesting story
-Good voice acting
-Developed and interesting characters
-Excellent use of the recharging health gameplay mechanic
-The best online multiplayer
-The best online matching system

Need I go on? Not to mention the gameplay, speed, pacing, damage, weapons, etc are just near perfect. The pacing IS perfect. And there's so much to customize. I enjoy other shooters, liek Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike, but there's absolutely no denying the genius that is the Halo series. Despite it's faults and Bungie's often hypocrisy and failure to crack down on cheaters, the game itself is just awesome to play.

Pretty underwhelming footage...

Sure it's in an alpha state or whatever but still, it just looks like Halo 2 with a not-so-fresh coat of paint. I love the Halo universe and will doubtlessly play Halo 3 to death, but where Bungie scored a hit marrying classic gameplay with a great story and technical innovation in Halo 1, the sequel felt gimmicky rather than innovative (talking about single player, people) and that trend seems to be continuing. Halo was a hit because it raised the bar- I did and saw things in that game that had been unknown to me as a console gamer, and I loved every second of it.

Halo 2 looked better, but it's story was incomplete, and my xbox sputtered trying to keep up with the visuals. Multiplayer was where Halo 2 really shined, and when you part with your inner fanboy, one has to admit that pretty much everything else was a *BIG* let down.

Halo 3 just looks like more of the same, which isn't necessarily bad, but the appeal of the whole franchise is about evolutionary gameplay with unparalled presentation. Neither of those elements seem to be with the series in it's third iteration. It's just looks like more of the same, and I'm sorry but Gears is out now and just flat out looks better. I won't even get into my AI impressions...

Here's to hoping we can chalk it all up to the games' Alpha state, and that next fall I'll be happily eating my words.

Man oh man oh man that game looks amazing. I wish I knew the story line behind the Halo games. I never got to play any of the Halo games because i never had a an xbox or a 360. I hope it's not one of those games where you have to have played the previous games to be good at it or understand it. This makes me think toward xbox 360 than PS3. Hopefuly one day there's just one system out that's really good and all the games will be out just for one system. Ahhhhhhhhhhh what a dream that would be.

@13

Me deal with it? I'm not the one claiming Halo is on the same league as Half Life. Halo's gameplay is extremely basic. But its other features make it addicting to some.

@14

Going by your logic, Counter Strike should be the greatest game ever right? People have been playing it 'heavily' for almost seven years now.

Stranger echoed my sentiments pretty well. Halo 2 was Halo 1 with a fresh coat of paint, and so far Halo 3 is nothing more than Halo 2 with a fresh coat of paint. Now, I liked the original Halo, but Halo 2 felt so much like some sort of expansion pack that it made me more than a little pissed off. You guys may get pissed at us who say that that footage looks exactly like Halo 2 with better lighting and higher res textures and is therefore quite underwhelming, but please - compare it to Halo 2. They are going to be like the exact same game. Halo 2 + Sheild Grenades = Halo 3? I call that a rerun. Sorry.

Okay,for the people saying PC fps' are superior: I am almost primarily a PC gamer. I pour hundreds of dollars into this thing several times a year to keep it cutting edge. I play tons of fps from F.E.A.R to HL2 to BF2 to CoD2, but you know what? I also play Halo. Know why? Because it's damn good and I can't wait for the pc version of Halo 2 so I can get its great gameplay and amazing art direction with the benefits that come with PC games.
Halo wasn't perticularly innovative, but it is fun. To this date, there isn't a single game I've played through more times than the original Halo, repetitive level designs and all.

Dude. People. This is an ALPHA build. Not only that, it is a TEASER trailer detailing one aspect of the game: the brutes. I mean seriously, how can there be so many people saying "It's gonna be great! Weeee!" and "Its gonna suck like Halo 2 did!" when its a trailer of an ALPHA build, that so happened to be made a MONTH ago. It's ALREADY out of date!

I mean, I was kinda underwhelmed with Halo 2, but I'm not going to make any final judgments on Halo 3 based soley on a teaser trailer of an Alpha build. I mean, thats just kinda silly.

My brother is one lucky asshole. He's been a writer at EGM for the past decade, and he got to go to Bungie to test out the multiplayer build for their cover story a few months back. I asked him about the graphics (since there seems to be so much contention over it these days). He told me not to expect it to look quite as pretty as Gears, and that what we're seeing now is probably fairly indicative of what the final product will look like.
I said, that's fine, in Gears you only fight about 6 enemies at a time, with no vehicles and limited amounts of on-screen action. In Halo 2 you had some pretty big battles going on at times with multiple vehicles and a large squad and dozens of enemies. As long as they could rachet that level of action up a bit, I'd be happy with it. He then told me exactly what I wanted to hear.
He said that Bungie would only show them 2 minutes of footage from the campaign, and they refused to replay it. Basically what he saw was a battle on an epic scale, beyond what you would ever think you'd see in a videogame. He said that what he saw was pure chaos, that there was so much going on on-screen, it was impossible to take it all in (think of that opening shot in star wars episode 3 where they're flying through the space battle and there are ships and explosions filling every inch of the screen). He said he and Hsu begged to see it again, but they refused.
So, how does this sound to you guys? Is that what you'd like to see in the next Halo? Something more than just pretty graphics? Something like pretty graphics and astounding, epic, beyond over-the-top action? yeah, I thought so.
and yes, I realize to anyone reading this I'm just some random dude whom you have no reason to trust. I suppose if I read this and someone else posted it, I'd just think he was making it. So feel free to disregard my post if it makes you feel better (and watch how much I care). All I know is that we have yet to play the best Halo game. To any other Halo fans reading this, don't worry, the wait might be painful now, but it's going going to be sooooooooooooo worth it.
