Saint's Row the musical
THQ's Saint's Row, the GTA clone that hit the Xbox 360 (for those who don't know), was a good move for them. The game sold well and made THQ stockholders very happy. However, the game shipped with some horrendous bugs, many of which completely broke the game. Many gamers never saw them, but others were inundated by them from start to finish. One such gamer decided to make the best of it. A blogger by the name of Cabel decided to film his buggy escapades and put them to a musical. The musical is fairly well done, in a hokey homebrew sort of way, and does have a comical segment where apparently the night sky in Stillwater hangs out somewhere below the surface of the planet during the day (vindicating the Dark Ages Roman Catholic church by proving the world is, indeed, flat). Check the link for the higher quality, not-YouTube version.

ha!
I never had any bugs but the game just doesnt have the "magic" that GTA has... something about it just isnt there...
Steve2 @ Dec 29th 2006 12:50PM
Kudos to Cabel for the songs. But, when it comes to bugs, there are a lot more disruptive ones in the game, I'll say that. They may not have been as obvious when you see them (like trigger points just not working) or as inspirational.

I really enjoyed the game. On foot it was a massive improvement over GTA, and there were other smaller improvements which made it an overall better experience for me. I never made it through a GTA because I just could not stand the targeting system.
With that said, I encountered a bug in Saint's Row and couldn't finish the game. I restarted from earlier save points, no luck. GTA was also superior as far as creating atmosphere, better dialog, better music, etc.

now that...that was pretty funny.

Part of me wants to laugh and applaud it for the brilliance of the singing, music, and lyrics.
The rest of me wants to dismiss it entirely though.
I've beaten the game forwards and backwards. I've made it to 97% completion. Aside from the early multiplayer oddities, I've not experienced one bug that was memorable. I've seen more than a fair share of them in the GTA games though.
All the same. Bravo. I guess.

Genius!!!! I love this video. I will buy stuff from this guy.

#7 My friends all had bugless versions and had to endure me complaining about my buggy copy. My copy had a problem with drawing the environment fast enough. I would drive over bridges that weren't there or drive into walls that appeared seconds later.
I still beat the game, but didn't get all the side missions. If there weren't bugs in the game I probably wouldn't have traded it in.

Absolutely hysterical. I don't think I've laugh that hard at something in years. I bet Relic would even laugh at this masterpiece.
eletro @ Dec 29th 2006 2:29PM
I loved it. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to watch it again and again.
White Rabbit @ Dec 29th 2006 2:30PM
gta clone?
get over yourself
it far surpassed GTA in every aspect.
maxx77 @ Dec 29th 2006 2:38PM
@16 I wholeheartedly agree. Every little nitpicky aspect of GTA was improved upon by SR. I don't mind the comparison to GTA, but I hate when people write it off as a clone or an imitator. They took the GTA foundation and improved upon it. I can't wait to see how GTA4 turns out. If it's slightly better than the previous games, it's going to be a huge letdown. If they instead steal ideas from SR, it'll be great. SR2, likewise, will improve upon GTA4 and the cycle will go on and on. But only so long as people actually BUY Saints Row. I think far too many people dismiss it (and too many people say it's very buggy, which irks me, since it runs fine for me)... yeah. Saints Row is a touchy subject for me, much like my beloved Eternal Darkness...

Awesome!

Perfect! Where's my f**king car, indeed. Fun game but I gave up on it after I got sick of sitting in an invisible inescapable car every time I needed to go somewhere.
Levi @ Dec 29th 2006 5:01PM
Hey, I don't wanna sound like a queer or nothin', but I think musicals are kick ass!
Silver @ Dec 29th 2006 5:42PM
Wha??? A Microsoft-related product that's a shameless rip-off of someone else's idea but manages to add a bucket full of bugs? Say it ain't so! (shock)
Well done as always Cabel, well done.
Jeramy @ Dec 29th 2006 5:52PM
where's my ****ing car. brilliant.
ShaolinDolemite @ Dec 29th 2006 10:15PM
"A Microsoft-related product..."
I guess, if you consider your PC's speakers Microsoft related (you do use them to listen to stuff on your Windows PC don't you?), then why not a game that's made by THQ? Get over yourself Jeramy- Microsoft is not the devil (they are the leader in the console wars though- Zing!).
refinedsugar @ Dec 29th 2006 10:15PM
lol, good stuff.
Mike @ Dec 30th 2006 9:11AM
Bravo! Bravissimo!
Nicely done. What's funny is that supposedly "edgey" musicals like Rent still end up sounding like this guy's parody. With a little more guitar, and growly vocals. Incredibly ripe for this type of treatment.
I literally laughed my ass off (and I'm a hard chuckle). Someone give him a job doing this stuff!
