In the opening sentence of the Quad-City Times' PS3 review, writer Aimee Green states, "If you're considering buying a PlayStation 3, I have just one thing to say: Wait."Oh, if she had just stayed true to that opening and just said that one thing. What follows is more than 1500 additional words... some of which are a bit painful to read at times. Some of my favorite one-liners:
- Most first-shipment game consoles later develop technical problems, especially Sony's (think of the PlayStation 2's "Disc read error"). It's just smart to wait a bit for later shipments.
- I don't care about watching DVDs on Blu-ray. My TV only goes to 1080i anyway, and 1080p is Blu-ray's thing.
- The PS3 uses the same interface the PSP uses. It's not particularly difficult to figure out, but it also sometimes feels annoyingly overcomplicated. But maybe that's just me.
Now to be fair to Ms. Green, she does provide the most complete review of the PS3 I have seen from the mainstream press. She is thorough and mostly accurate. So, some definite kudos there. And, ultimately, she, like all PS3 fanboys, has high hopes for the future of the console. So, overall, good work, Aimee! (except for that whole "wait to buy it" part).
