Lieberman takes video game industry money
The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics found that Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman took $73,000 from a "variety of industry sources" over the past two years. Is $73K a pitiful amount in Lieberman's multi-million dollar warchest? It sure is. One contribution was from Linda McMahon, CEO of Stamford, Conn. based WWE Entertainment, who gave $2000 saying, "I make contributions to a variety of candidates whom I respect."
For the most part, the story from the Hartford Courant doesn't really go anywhere. The headline in the Courant says, "Lieberman defends video-game money," but the article has nothing to do with video game money. It was a very deceptive headline, one out of irony we were glad to employ. The article doesn't give any examples beyond WWE -- which most would argue isn't really a video game company -- of video game related companies that contributed to Lieberman's campaign. The article just paints Lieberman as a career politician taking money in a continual quest for more power from wherever he can get it .

Heck, if the tobacco industry can have a finger in politics, why can't gaming?

Ummm, are they trying to claim that Lieberman is in any way unique in that? The trying to get more power any way he can bit? I hope not, that's all American politicians are about. Democrats have been in power awhile now, let's count how many things the Republicans passed they've proposed repealing.... yeah, zero. They just want to pass more things that give them more power. Just like the Republicans before them did. They both have an agreement. Trade places every few years, just get as much power as possible while you're in there so the next guy can play with it when it's his turn... oh, and lock out those third parties. Make sure to illegally keep them out of debates and things like that. Everything else, just lie. Lie as hard as you can.

Leiberman is a filth.

Of course Lieberman's not unique in taking contributions, but I think the whole point is that he's been one of the main opponents to the Video Game industry and to free speech in general, so for him to be taking contributions from one of his main targets is of interest.

Awesome. So I'm not the only one who sees Palpatine in the new trilogy and instantly thinks of Lieberman. XD

WWE is headquartered in Connecticut. As a large media company, it's basically expected for them to give money to their local congressman and to both senators in the state.
I'd be more surprised if they weren't giving him money (and I would applaud it).

You know, you'd really think gaming interests would stop giving Lieberman money. They're bankrolling him to fight them - not exactly the best usage of lobbying money.
If Linda McMahon wants to give me two grand, I can guarantee her that I'll act more in the best interests of the WWE than Joe Lieberman will.

Well WWE are suing a video games company, and that seems to be what most video games companies spend their time doing now so they're not far off.
