The problem with this kind of rudimentary rubric is that some games actually offer good content for the money. This little mapping of what's been offered does not reflect the quality of the contextual content. For example, GRAW would be pretty high on that list, but the content pack is definately a worthwhile purchase, as it expands the game in a meaningful direction (unlike, say, Oblivion's content).

There's nothing inherently wrong with microtransactions - PC gamers know this. There's also nothing wrong with developers offering shitty content for top dollar. The only real fundamental flaw with microtransactions is that dumb people fuel and proliferate the distributions of subpar supplementary content.

Microtranactions are definately the biggest downer of '06. The box has been opened, the gates have been drawn and it seems there is no going back now. With publishers/game creators saying this will be a great thing for gaming because games will be expanded upon and gameplay experiences will be extended. When only to find that we are being charged for stuff already on the disc, content that was created long ago which in the past would of been included for free. Bethesda is on the right track with the Oblivion expansion as is Ubisoft with the GRAW expansion. But I've seen a lot less of those types of content and more "Buy $50,000 in game bucks for..". So far it seems Microtransactions are great for publishers/devs and bad for gamers.

Ghost Recon is there, it's number 14. The list above is just the top 10. There are 20 total.

Micro transactions can kiss my Arse.
How about you release the FULL game and not keep parts out, only to CHARGE extra for them? Just a thought.

Then again, if people are so stupid that they want to PAY for things like a preview movie of Madden or a Cheat that you can EARN in the game.
LET the FOOLS PAY.

"Hopefully 2007 will show us a new world of microtransactions that won't seem cheap and tacky."

Did you miss the Gauntlet post yesterday? That is the future. Pay per play.

And right after that, the second videogame industry crash.

I'm sick of people bitching about microtransactions. I like the system. The problem is when companies abuse it (like EA).

Bethesda (horse armour aside) provided some damn fine conten for my cash. The vile lair made my vamp character more fun, the wizards tower was an awesome complement to my wizard.

I have no problem paying extra for contend I want. It is when they make it impossible to play without paying extra that we have a problem. I would like to get more bang for my buck tho, as many times MS points don't amount to much.

You folks should be aware that #1 with a bullet isn't even on your list.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 snuck in an internal marketplace called the Crystal Boutique with the last update where you could buy entire suit sets for each girl for real world cash instead of tediously trying to earn money in game and gift the suits to other girls.

Each complete collection (30+ suits) is 400 points, or $5.

For each girl to own every suit in the game, she has to own 9 sets (one for each girl), which adds up to $45. There are 9 girls: $405. That doesn't even include other miscellaneous items, like tickets to play other other events, such as the waterslide or butt battle, which cost 100 points each.

I personally haven't seen this because I don't want to update and lose the ability to use the signout exploit, but someone on youtube put up a vid of it (unfortunately it's in german):
