Nominate game systems in the 2006 Engadget Awards [update 1]

The 2006 Engadget Awards are underway and they're asking for your nominations in a series of categories, including Game Console of the Year and Handheld of the Year! Sure, the pool of possible candidates isn't as broad as say Gadget of the Year -- the product had to have been "introduced and sold for the first time in 2006" -- but we're sure you'll all want your voices heard.

Of course, two of the three new-gen consoles will make an appearance but what else is there? We're certain the DS Lite will get plenty of handheld nominations, but with the PSP2 still MIA, what else is there? Although each candidate only needs to be nominated once, that hasn't stopped dozens of comments from overlapping at Engadget. Take a look and see what needs representing.

[Update: Amended post to reflect the requirement that the product had to have been "introduced and sold for the first time in 2006." Sheesh, sort of a big thing to miss! Thanks, everyone.]

Limit your nominations only to devices (or technologies) that were introduced and sold for the first time in 2006 (which means no concept devices or prototypes, although we will allow updated versions of previous products).

Sorry, Christopher, but "sold for the first time in 2006" is a requirement. PS2? No. PSP? No. GBA? No. GP2X? No. The only ones I can think of are: Wii, PS3, and DS Lite. Try doing more research first, Chris.

Why do we need to nominate for this category? There's only 3 or maybe 4 choices (if you count the Euro launch of the 360). Kind of a waste...

I want to say wii, but the impact of the ds lite is astounding. One could almost say that the ability for the wii to reach the non-gamers was introduced by the DS and brain age. My girlfriend, family, friends, would never been excited about the wii before it came out without the DS' success. If wii is the savior of the game industry, the ds is john the baptist.

Johnny Bloom, just look at the page source. I trust if you're starting your own web page, you understand how tags work. Anyway, I checked out the post with the Capcom chart with a bunch of stuff crossed out, viewed page source, and found a tag called "strike". So there you go just use that command.
