First footage: Xbox Live Arcade Worms

GameTrailers has posted the first gameplay video (embedded below) of a near-complete version of Worms for Xbox Live Arcade. As expected, Team17's latest entry returns the series to classic 2D gameplay (as Open Warfare did on DS and PSP last spring). The new Worms will be presented in widescreen and looks to make use of a familiar weapon set (see above); although planned content downloads could boost the game's arsenal.
XBLA's Worms is set to be fully unveiled at CES next week.

I can't wait. Anybody here know how much it's going to cost? Wait nevermind...I'm buying it regardless.
KineticOnline @ Jan 2nd 2007 8:38PM
Im agreed with rom, as long as the demo even remotely feels like worms i'll be buying it too. Worms the ultimate singleplayer, multiplayer and party game!
Oshi @ Jan 2nd 2007 8:59PM
Agreed with the above two. I'm buying it regardless. I miss my 2D online multiplayer Worms. And this should be a nice step from the Worms 2 I'm used to.
Also, wow, I didn't know the DS Worms game was 2D as well! I may have to check that one out.
Einhanderkiller @ Jan 2nd 2007 9:03PM
There's also a 2D Worms game for the PSP with online capabilities that has already been released.

I agree with the first three posts... just for the sake of agreeing.

@ #4...
Oh C'mon....anything online on a my PS2/PS3/PSP systems is like pulling teeth compared to the simple and effective beauty that XBL is.....
WORMS is better appreciated on a larger screen anyway.....
Cannot wait....Hopefully they'll allow the custom team names of the past
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 2nd 2007 9:37PM
I agree with agreeing. Who else agrees?
brandno @ Jan 2nd 2007 9:44PM

bounchfx @ Jan 2nd 2007 9:46PM
I was never big into "worms" but I really like Gunbound (Which I also think should be brought for the sake of variety), and Scorched Earth. both of which are essentially worms
GL @ Jan 2nd 2007 9:50PM
That is outstanding. It is like I am in college, all over again. This is one of those XBL Arcade games where I may actually get up early, before work, to download the game the day it comes out.
I love it.
thebiggameover @ Jan 2nd 2007 10:07PM
A bunch of sites are saying that is going to be 800 ms points, and maybe, just maybe, it will be out jan 17th. i will get this the day it comes out...
Virtua Fanboy @ Jan 2nd 2007 10:21PM
Man, this is the shot in the arm that Arcade needs. Can't wait for this bad puppy. Won't pay more than 800 pts though. (I wanted Lumines Livesooooo bad, but I'm not gonna let em think it's ok ta charge more than $10 for an Arcade game.) Here's to hoping!
Tal3n @ Jan 2nd 2007 11:38PM
I would buy if it were 1200 MS points, hell I would buy it if were double that. 4 Player Worms, hot seat multiplayer. Would be the ultimate XLBA game for parties. If there is one thing the 360, it is good offline multiplayer
Bun @ Jan 3rd 2007 7:10AM
Trust me, this is the weakest Worms (2D, at least) that I've ever that the privilege of laying eyes on. The maps are EXTREMELY small, so if you want to play 3-4 player games, you'll all be breathing down each other's necks. There is no option to adjust the random environment crap that gets thrown in for each of the themes given, and they generate a lot of 'em! Many classic weapons are missing, like the baseball bat and carpet bombs, all the weapons have ben gimped slightly to compensate for the map size, and there's no means to adjust water height, and it still weighs in at around 50 megs! Oh, and don't hope for any new weapon packs in the near future, none are currently in test. Only downloadable voice packs right now are in the works. But hey, they've got some GREAT voice packs, and a lot of the good classic ones.

@ Bun: You seem to know an awful lot about a game that hasn't been released yet. My guess is you are a bitter QA tester who is sick and tired of working on the game.
Get over it. Some of us still want to play the game.
Mal F4cti0n @ Jan 3rd 2007 12:50PM
Bun,
How can you label this as the worst 3D version of Worms when it is based on the beloved orginal? The original was everyone's favorite as far as I know. So you are saying this is the worst 2D version even though it will be almost the exact same thing as the best 2D version?
TROLL!!!!! Are you a fanboi?
Peter @ Jan 3rd 2007 12:55PM
Too bad the people playing the game in the video just aren't very good. ;-)
DouggyD @ Jan 4th 2007 8:51AM
XBLA WORMS FTW!!!
Bub @ Jan 3rd 2007 2:00PM
This looks great. And I'm a ps3 boy.
solomonrex @ Jan 3rd 2007 3:55PM
I'm actually excited about this and I have no 360. I'm going to have to convince my friends to download this. Widescreen 2d worms, very cool.
Dagon @ Jan 3rd 2007 3:06PM
Oshi: Don't fall for it!!! The DS worms was 100% crap. Just as one example of its pure crapulesence, the ninja rope (best weapon ever BTW) was almost completely unusable. It was a series of dots instead of a straight line, incredibly slow, and any part of the rope that touched any surface became stuck to it. I attempted to play twice but quit both matches and sold it the next day for a $22 loss.
