Even thought MGS4 is coming out, I would have loved to see what Konami do with the FPS genre.

Who knows, this MAY BE a step in the direction of MGS4 going to 360. I never played MGS on any of the Playstations or Xbox so I really don't care either way. But for the flame war that is probably going to commence, I think that the only exclusive games should be games that are made by each individual company. Nintendo has Mario, Sega had Sonic, Microsoft has Halo, Sony has Rachet and Clank, and so on. Just my opinion. (I know this article isn't about MGS4 but you know discussion is going to get to that point anyway. lol)

This is a shame if it turns out true. I loved the PSP original and thought the main problems with the gameplay were easily fixable.

1. Better variety of weapons. For an FPS to base itself entirely in a computer would but only drop pistols and machine guns is rather disappointing. Not to mention their "list" was buffed just by making variants of the same gun with the only difference being the class of enemies it hurts. They could have played the computer angle to huge effects and yet, didn't. Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled by Insomniac...

2. Better variety to the room templates and layouts the game had access to when doing the random level generation. There is no doubt the worlds were limited to Box shaped room, X shaped hallway, L shaped room. It's an FPS, not Tetris. Timesplitters has a huge variety of their tiles and in order to pull off random level generation, you NEED to do the frappin huge asset library to avoid repetition. Not to mention, their level generation would often put you in a scenario where, in the third room of a 20 room level, you had the quarantine warning, forcing you to do a speed run or die instantly.

3. More bosses of the epic variety. Nobody I know who played far enough to get to their first boss had any complaints. Likewise, once the four story tall monster shows up in the massive catwalk loaded level, you go from "damn generic soldiers" mode to "HOLY CRAP, I HAVE TO KILL THAT?!?" The game was based in a virtual world! They could have gotten a hell of a lot more creative than they did. And likewise, bosses should have been thrown in everywhere.

If they would have fixes those issues with the PSP version, tightened up the gameplay, added a level editor, I would have loved to play it on PS3. Hopefully, this rumor isn't true and instead of Konami killing a franchise with so much potential, they merely tighten up the game instead.

With the funds needed to not only produce the game, but the game discs, and the low number of people who actually have PS3's, developers can't afford to make a game that won't be a killer app, like MGS4 and FFXIII.

Oh noes!! A sequel to an unpopular shooter on an unpopular handheld may be canceled on the least popular console! I say leave fps games to the Americans (and some other western developers). Actually, I do agree with sheppy on all the points he made about the original. It had such great promise. I'm looking forward to the psp sequel.

I woul rather include SOCOM to that mix for SONy instead of R&C SOCOM is a much more popular series than the R&C series.

This is great news for the PS3. That game was horrible. I played it at TGS and it froze the PS3 I was playing it on and before that it was like playing a slide show at about 10 frames per second. Blocky, jaggy and hard to control. It never should have been at TGS. If this game came out it would have just givin more fuel to the 360 fanboys. SO no big loss there. Still... you have to wonder.. what title will be dropped next?

I agree that your just can't make a game for the PS3 unless it's a
top-grade production which can sell a lot of copies. (ALthough even
the top-grade ones are going to have a hard time with the PS3's low
install base.)

Also Sheppy are you listening to yourself? A game that has the same 3 rooms, same few weapons, and generally boring boss fights with no plot whatsoever has potential???

Yeah I see the potential to be a worse game than the original was, an already staggeringly bad game.
