Where is it?

Right here.

http://catanonline.com/

That should satisfy your jones until the game comes out on XBLA. Personally, I'm waiting for Carcasonne, Puerto Rico, Alhambra, and Ticket to Ride.

It's called Cities 3D and Sea 3D. They're pretty damn fun! However it's one step closer to being on the PS3. -happyemotehere-

With this and Culdcept Saga hitting the 360 in 2007, I expect to waste hundreds of hours with a few friends in front of the TV. Strategy multiplayer gaming without the inconvenience of using EXPENSIVE sets of cards and boards. Genius.

(Oh and for all you people who aren't familiar with Culdcept, think Magic the Gathering meets Monopoly, plus the addictive properties of two hits of crack.)

wait, what's the point?

The only reason it is any fun is because you're playing against your family. playing against people online is like opening Christas presents with a random group of people.

(now, if all your family had 360's, then that would be cool)

Not to pile on, but Capcom released the N-gage version of Catan and has a PS2 version in development. Nokia's working on having the whole N-gage library available as downloadable software, which finally lines them up with every other mobile software publisher. Hey, here's a link:

Heh, it's interesting how the boardgame craze is taking over. I've been playing boardgames for ages and Settlers is already 10+ years old :) Well, trust me, now is a great time to start getting boardgames off the shelf, there's just way too many extremely high quality games out there at the moment and amongst all of that, I'd rate Settlers of Catan 2.5/5.

Caylus, El Grande, Tigris & Euphrates, Power Grid, Ingenious etc etc... go for it.

Let's not forget San Juan. I (and a lot of my gaming friends) actually prefer it over Puerto Rico.

I would also love to see a XBLA version of Citidels and Bohnanza, along with most of the games people have already listed.

My family and I love Settlers.. it got us through a year in Togo (a small country in West Africa) without going homicidal. Now we have our four kids (youngest is five, oldest 11) playing it with us.

But I have to agree with jopojelly.. Does anyone really want to play such a social game with 13-year-olds? Ditto for Diplomacy, or any other "adult" social game.

However, it's very possible that these kids might just ignore Settlers altogether. I still don't know if I'd play it online, though, unless I knew who I was playing with.

Man, it's been about 7 years since I first played Catan. Still tons of fun.

Actually, I'm always fond of using Catan to teach newbs lessons about personal interaction - and learning when is the proper time to take a shot at someone. My wife learned that the hard way - she kept taking shots at me early in our first game with the robber, and since I controlled the brick supply I grossly overcharged her and beat her handily.

She's much better at judging when to use the robber offensively now.

Glad to see SoC get some coverage; but let's not say it's like Civilization.

As it stands, Catan, Alhambra and all the rest are the kind of games that I most anticipate on the 360. Being able to play them over XBL with friends and yes, even strangers over the network would not suck even slightly.

And quite frankly, I'm not nearly as worried about punks (regardless of their age) sitting down for a 1-2 hour game of Catan...the appeal isn't the same thing as jumping into the Lost Planet demo for several matches. Being 13 isn't the problem...being an asshole is. I know some 13 year-olds who are more mature than people twice their age.

There are more in-depth games, and there are games where skill plays more of a factor than luck, but Settlers is a great balance of a simple concept, great execution, and enjoyable play mechanics. I can't wait to play over Live with my old NJ friends.

I wrote early on to Microsoft when they were asking for ideas for XBLA, and I insisted on Settlers of Catan. Why not? They already have it on Microsoft Zone.

Alhambra and Carcasonne, by the way, are due for XBLA. Don't hold your breath on Ticket to Ride (heavy sigh).

By the way, not everyone loves Settlers of Catan. Richard Hutnik in the newsgroups scoffs at it, calling it the Monopoly of Euro-board games. He wants Puerto Rico more.

I found this game about a year ago and my family tried it. It is our whole families favorite board game. I love to play it, it is the greatest. It is true about playing multiplayer on the internet, there is no one to talk to and it is really hard because part of the strategy to the game is talking. It is kind of like playing texas hold 'em on your iPod, Where is the strategy in that?

This game is dumb. It's going to make an impact as large as it made when it came out for the Nokia N-Gage.

SoC, Carcasonne and Alhambra are the three games I've been anticipating since they were announced. I may actually have to purchase a Live Gold subscriptions if they don't disappoint. What I really want to know is if they will just be the base games or will the expansions be included. I'd love to be able to try out some of the Alhambra expansions. I have all of them, but I can never get anyone to play them. I also want to know why Alhambra has gone off the radar screen. Another site claims to have reviewed SoC and given it 8/10 and that Carcasonne was so buggy it couldn't run, but not a word about Alhambra.
