Here at Joystiq we don't always pay proper attention to PC gaming. Luckily FiringSquad has picked up the slack. The site has issued its 'Most Anticipated' games of the year list, featuring twenty upcoming titles. Here's a look at the top five:
- Supreme Commander (Gas Powered Games/THQ) - spiritual successor to Total Annihilation; sci-fi RTS with dual-monitor support
- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Splash Damage/id Software/Activision) - prequel to Quake 2; two playable sides (Human and Strogg) are said to offer vastly different gameplay experiences
- World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade (Blizzard) - the expansion to end all expansions ('cha-ching')
- Spore (Maxis/EA) - from single-celled to universe conqueror; the video game to end all video games
- Crysis (Crytek/EA) - it has the looks, can it live up to the hype?
Which games are you planning to upgrade your rig for?

Um shouldnt that "will" be replaced with "with" in the first game?
Negativecool @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:35PM
I'm a sucker for teh pretty. Thus I will be gawking at Crysis every chance I get. I say gawking because I couldn't possibly afford the machine to run it. Sucks to be "po foke".
Benjmon @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:38PM
Unreal Tournament 2007, obviously.
Leto @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:40PM
No need for upgrade, but I'll be getting Spore for sure, I love evolution sim games.
Autocrawler @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:45PM
Crysis. I'll be upgrading my rig just to be able to play it on maximum settings in DX10.
Veras Gunn @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:50PM
No love for Hellgate: London?
Blasphemy I say! BLASPHEMY!

No care for PC-gaming, I'm off to have sex on the beach. Come on everybody.
madato @ Jan 4th 2007 12:18AM
I heard they're releasing Duke Nukem Forever
Ghede @ Jan 4th 2007 12:20AM
Spore has no need to upgrade... that is my dream game... I used to love sim-earth, but the complexity and the lack of control kind of made me lose intrest... Crysis I might consider, but only if I get either farcry, or a gametap subscription first.
madato @ Jan 4th 2007 12:21AM
but seriously...
Unreal 2007
Portals
Team Fortress 2
Half-Life 2 Ep.2 and Ep.3

Dual monitor support?
*rubs eyes*
Is this the future? Wow! This must be the glorious year of 1999, when win98se brought widespread multi-monitor support!
also: spore for wii? and tf2 now pls.
uh_oh @ Jan 4th 2007 12:47AM
In response to QuakeUlf, i think your mind is melted. Viva la PC !!!! Dont really need to upgrade for any of those, although my free vista will be here in a month or two.
nick @ Jan 4th 2007 1:12AM
spore will pretty much dominate my pc experience... can't wait for that one.
Tango @ Jan 4th 2007 1:13AM
Whoa whoa whoa... what about the killer Portal/TF2/HL2 Episode 2 triple threat?
Kanadwen @ Jan 4th 2007 1:17AM
...Am I the only one waiting for Command & Conquer 3? I know it's EA, but come on, KANE is back!
Nate @ Jan 4th 2007 1:19AM
What about Halo2 PC!!!
Rubang @ Jan 4th 2007 1:20AM
All I'm really looking forward to PC-wise is Spore and Portals.
David004 @ Jan 4th 2007 1:23AM
SPORE!!!
AKozlenok @ Jan 4th 2007 1:46AM
all the people stating console games are annoying, if u're not a PC gamer, IGNORE THIS SECTION, in stead of polluting this with 'Spore is gona be on Wii' posts. anyways 20bucks says the Spore on Wii won't be the same as on PC, cause they always do that. ;-)
I will be building an entirely new rig for Supreme Commander~! w00t that game rocks :-) saving up a very nice pot for it ;-) water cooled and everything.
Yonk @ Jan 4th 2007 1:52AM
No love for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars?
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Jan 4th 2007 2:45AM
I already upgraded :)
I've been waiting for Supreme Commander for quite some time now. When it and Spore come out, I think I'll be abandoning my console systems for months.
Luke @ Jan 4th 2007 3:17AM
This all brings up the question on how much you’re willing to spend on a system just to play amazing games? Because now a day when I price out a pc for myself I’m looking at spending around 3k… and all this just for these games????
Amos @ Jan 4th 2007 3:30AM
I will spend nothing, I already got a laptop. It's not getting upgraded. But it will run Spore. That is all I need. Fuck Spore on Wii. Mouse controls with actual precision and resolution FTW!
Luke @ Jan 4th 2007 3:37AM
Good point I take a mouse over a joystick any day for any game but sports and driving
Matt @ Jan 4th 2007 4:07AM
Every game you've mentioned except for Burning Crusade... my grandmother's computer could run it. =P
Not that I need to buy anything new, although I bet my 7950GT will be hurting with Crysis. :(
busydoingnothing @ Jan 4th 2007 4:48AM
What about Alan Wake? Isn't it coming out at some point this year? Have you *SEEN* the video?

baby sea tuna @ Jan 4th 2007 8:29AM
Wow, people still care about Quake? Really?
Quick1 @ Jan 4th 2007 8:49AM
@24: You should be able to buy a computer in six months that comfortably runs these games for a maximum of $1500, and I would bet you could find something for under $1000. If you're spending more than that, then you're not simply looking for a computer that will run these games, you're trying to get a lot more.
OTAM @ Jan 4th 2007 9:48AM
More FPS and RTS games for the PC. Oh boy....
Spidey @ Jan 4th 2007 10:19AM
"Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - prequel to Quake 2"
Uh, wouldn't that be Quake 1?
White Rose Duelist @ Jan 4th 2007 10:24AM
Spore is actually getting released in 2007?
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 4th 2007 11:09AM
Spore, Spore, Spore, oh, and did I mention, Spore?
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 4th 2007 11:11AM
""Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - prequel to Quake 2"
Uh, wouldn't that be Quake 1?"
No. A prequel is a chronologically later film or game that takes place before the events of the predecessor. Quake (aka Quake 1) is not a prequel. It came before Quake 2. ET:QW could take place before or after Quake 1, but it'll take place before Quake 2.
JPRacer @ Jan 4th 2007 11:28AM
Armed Assault, the sequel to Operation Flashpoint. Probably the most realistic wide-scale military FPS ever.
Also, Hellgate: London, UT 2007, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Crysis, Storm of War: Battle of Britain (new sim from maker of IL2 Sturmovik), Steel Beasts 2 (ultra-realistic tank sim), Silent Hunter 4 (submarine sim), Bioshock, HL2:EP2, Alan Wake, Brothers in Arms 3 and all the racing sims, particulary S3 for LFS.
Jhwk @ Jan 4th 2007 12:54PM
Sheesh, why all the wii hate around here. I'm a PC Gamer (SupCom W00t!) who also consoles. Nothing like swing a bat to hit a homerun, versus clicking my mouse.
Mode7 @ Jan 4th 2007 2:03PM
Actually since Quake didn't take place in the same universe as Quake2 I don't think it even enters the equation.
Also, Spore on the Wii is a great idea, seems like a nice fit. Then all Nintendo would need is a WoW port and i'd declare the console wars just about over for this gen.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 4th 2007 3:12PM
"Also, Spore on the Wii is a great idea, seems like a nice fit. Then all Nintendo would need is a WoW port and i'd declare the console wars just about over for this gen."
Yeah, cause just think how simple it would be to get 7 million people together with Nintendo's joke of an online service. Friend codes, anyone?
Quigs @ Jan 4th 2007 3:49PM
Wrong Otam. WRONG.
PC games are the future! The Keyboard and Mouse combination is the best! Nintendo really didnt think it was a fucking goofy input device and drop it 10 years ago.
Its, uh, accurate! Yeah!
Spending 3 thousand dollars > spending 3 hundred dollars for the same game. Loser.
calthaer @ Jan 4th 2007 4:36PM
Meh. Show me something new. I'll be scouring the indie sites for something different that's worth my money.
syco @ Jan 4th 2007 8:57PM
PORTALS.
Seriously. Best idea for a puzzle game ever...
I don't even play PC games much except Wow...
socrates @ Jan 5th 2007 2:20AM
@madato
"World of Diablo?" You can't be anticipating made-up titles. If a new diablo game hasn't been announced yet, it won't be released this year.
If you had all read the article, you'd see that most of the "omissions" are on the full list. I'd personally rank TF2/HL ep2 first, and then Bioshock, and then Crysis - if only because we have only the developer's promises that Crysis's gameplay won't lag far behind its graphics a la Far Cry (if they match them, then that takes the top spot, of course).
Triforceowner @ Jan 5th 2007 5:46PM
I know I'd be stressing my computer to play Crysis, but is Spore a low power game? I have a gig of ram, a Pentium 4 at 3 ghz, and 256 mb gpu with 2.0 shader capabilities. Thanks if anyone could reply.
