This is what happens when you Photoshop a PSP and Game Boy

Other than the fact that he's "Male, 24 and Taken, " we're not sure who Flickr user downbeat is. But we really like either his or "Mod Soul's" Photoshop chops convincingly merging a PSP with a Game Boy Pocket. Click to enlarge the image and spot the minor blurring imperfections near the "O" button.

Thats some good photoshopping, but I'd like to see a PSP take on a DS Lite.
Carl @ Jan 3rd 2007 7:29PM
I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I think that looks cool. The gameboys always had good designs.
DiahrreaMan @ Jan 3rd 2007 7:34PM
...that picture scared the living hell outa me...that thing...it shouldn't even linger in people's thoughts!!
Though I gotta say, those are some crazy photoshopping skills!

That's an abomination to God!! KILL IT! :-p
otakucode @ Jan 3rd 2007 7:58PM
No widescreen and a smaller screen?
Yeah, that is exactly how you could make the PSP exponentially worse.
cristian @ Jan 3rd 2007 7:50PM

599 US dollars! Riiiiiidge Racer!
Red Neo @ Jan 3rd 2007 8:17PM
He should have used the GBA SP, which is the best form-factor the Gameboy line ever had. It's really a beautiful design.
downbeat @ Jan 3rd 2007 8:37PM
I'm the one that posted that picture, and I didn't photoshop it at all. I found it at another website, and thought it would be cool to post it on my Fickr account. I'm sorry, if by posting it on my Flickr account, made you think I made it.

Wow...that's a really awesome photoshop job. I was expecting something stupid when I read the subject line “This is what happens when you photoshop a PSP and game boy”, but this is really well done, and looks so real.
And I really liked that fact that s/he used a light green background, which intentionally or unintentionally matches the original Game Boy.
EriCKY @ Jan 4th 2007 8:25PM
This was actually made by Madsoul from the QJ forums...Like 8 months ago ;D
lordroba @ Jan 3rd 2007 10:23PM
Wow, that's a pretty sweet pic. Someone show this to Ben Heckendorn. I'm sure he could get a prototype made in no time:P
DWells55 @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:45PM
Wow, that's a very slick PS job. I'd love to see a tutorial on how this guy did that good a job. I'd really love to be able to do stuff like that.
bubbacrosbysucks @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:51PM
man the pocket was a sexy beast- I loved all the colors it came in too.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jan 4th 2007 1:28AM
THIS is the PSP I would have preferred. You can stick it in your POCKET, and it's actually portable.
Sony missed the whole "portable" part of PSP. Sure, you can carry it around, but between the battery drain, the crap load times, and the delicate screen and controls, the damn thing isn't very useful as a portable device.
I still say that the clamshell design, or at least a built-in screen guard are necessary for a portable game system. I want to shove it in my pocket and whip it out when I'm standing in line. Cartridges or cards make more sense than discs, because they're solid-state, and the load times are next to nothing.
Sony had NO IDEA how to make a portable. All they did was miniaturize the PS2.
Extinction @ Jan 4th 2007 1:59AM
@ZeroCorpse: PSP is actually smaller than the fat DS. Solid state mediums do not make sense for PSP, as they cost too much to manufacture and the games would end up crippled to fit in smaller spaces. They load faster because you're loading less.
Sony made the perfect handheld, something handheld gamers have been begging for, for years. But instead Nintendo gives us incremental improvements. PSP is the quantum leap forward I always wanted
Dukrous @ Jan 4th 2007 2:04AM
@Extinction: The PSP may be a quantum leap forward, but it forgot to bring games with it. I'll stick to my DS until the PSP has games worth playing.
CrimemasterGogo @ Jan 4th 2007 3:39AM
OMG bashing someones head with that would be easy especially with the weight. What its not asif theres other uses for it.
ZachG @ Jan 4th 2007 9:32AM
Here is a little Mediaplayer/Nintendo Mod of my own. Let me know what you think:

Dukrous - "@Extinction: The PSP may be a quantum leap forward, but it forgot to bring games with it. I'll stick to my DS until the PSP has games worth playing."
Forgot to bring the games with it? I was pretty surprised when looking at Metacritic.com to discover more PSP games were rated 80 and above than DS games: 40 PSP games are rated 80 or above, verses only 29 DS games (not counting multiple versions of Nintendogs, of course).
For a more direct comparison (all using the baseline of the same reviewer, verses variable reviewers), IGN has an equal number of PSP and DS editor's choice games.
And IGN also said in their Best of 2006 article said:
“This was one hell of a year for the PSP. There were so many quality titles for the system that nearly every award was an extremely close call. Indeed, of all the PlayStation awards that we gave out this year, few were as tight as most every PSP selection. To say it was a fantastic year for the system would be a rather large understatement.
Lovers of every genre saw strong support with extremely high quality games in 2006. Action fans saw the release of titles like Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Killzone: Liberation. Fighting fans were treated to Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Racing fans were appeased with Codemasters' Race Driver 2006 and a couple really good ATV titles. And with games like LocoRoco, the PSP proved that it has enough original and unique content to stand toe-to-toe with any touchy systems out there.
If 2006 is any indication of what we'll see in 2007, then we can safely say the PSP is in full swing as a mature system. “
And if that's somehow not enough for you, look at all the quality games coming out for the PSP in 2007: (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/12/26/games-to-look-forward-to-in-2007/#comments)

You see the flaw in your entire argument is simple.
The psp brings nothing new to the market.
Hot shit! Its a iPod video with a few games that I can get better versions of on other systems. Playing any FPS on a PSP is hell, Sony treats its user base like criminals with constant firmware updates blocking out flash games such as N.
Also stating Loco Roco as one game that the PSP has that is original and unique doesn't cut it.
The DS is a far superior system game wise. It allows brilliant new controls of FPS in the form on Metroid Prime: Hunters. It shows that it has grafical power to play some amazing looking games such as The New Super Mario Bros (yes that game does look awesome.) New styles of play such as Nintendogs allowed games to reach non-gamer markets as well as add a giggle to hardcore gamers. Mario Kart DS and Sonic Rush as well as several others proved that old and brilliant franchises can work awesomely on the console and these were all original titles rather than the 'wonderful' PS2 ports that the PSP enjoys.
Just because a system isn't some "tripped out" ghetto toy doesn't mean its not good. The DS proved that originality and breathing new life into old ways far out ways the fact that "Hey guys, I have an iPod video that can play ridge racer and loads of other nerfed down ps2 games."

photoshop? that's too good to be true
gfunk @ Jan 8th 2007 2:12PM
Hmm... That's not Photoshop, it's either 3dsmax or maya, the rendering has an hdri map applied to the whole model. Even though it does have a little PS afterwork done...
PSP ROCKS @ Jan 4th 2007 7:31PM
And what does the DS have thats new? Its a pda that has more buttons and plays games. And what are you going to do with it. Play games? and an hour later, play games? another hour later...still playing games. with the PSP you can be playing games, an hour later surf the web, an hour later listen to music....watch movies....look at pics.....
Plus PSP looks awesome. DS looks like $h!t. PSP's games hold 14 times the DS. It has bigger screen size, better screen resolution, a usb port, and WAY better graphics and hardware. even with all that it is ONLY .01 POUNDS HEVIER
Plus it can connect to PS3 (i will get one.....eventually) to share movies, pics, movie, ect. and can be used with games(theres one game that i know of that uses psp as rear-veiw mirror)
"Its a iPod video with a few games that I can get better versions of on other systems" What systems? PS2. Xbox. NOT DS. and for controls, who really wants to have to touch a screen to shoot, or to move, or anything in a fast paced game.
PSP ROCKS
DS SUCKS
