Trick Sony, download Tekken 5
GamersReports has posted a workaround for PlayStation 3 owners eager to download Tekken 5.Unless you're living in Hong Kong or Japan you're forced to wait until Sony gets around to releasing Tekken 5 in other territories ... or you could cheat the system. This trick is relatively simple, if not inherently dishonest:
- Create a new user (not sub-user)
- When entering the credit card info, pick Hong Kong as country, and then a corresponding city
- After account is created, select 'Add Funds' (a sub-option within 'Account Management')
- Add $40 (Hong Kong dollars) to your 'Wallet' twice (total should now be 80 HKD); never add more than $50 in one transaction, as this will prompt a validation of the address registered with the credit card
- Now go to the PlayStation Store and select Tekken 5
- Opt to add more funds (bringing Wallet total to 125 HKD)
- Purchase and download Tekken 5

Already done several hours ago, that and several demos not available here (Ridge Racer).
gphoenix51 @ Jan 3rd 2007 2:31AM
See, now you didn't do it right, you gotta say "Riiiiiiiiiiidddddgggge Racer!"
whatever @ Jan 3rd 2007 2:50AM
So very dishonest, how immoral of you!
You're joking, right? Immoral? That's a joke, yes? F*cking pathetic. F*ck SONY all to h*ll if they're actually care about whether people do this. I mean, what are they gonna do? Sue me? I guess I'm gonna go to hell then? No? Stupid. Just stupid. They can suck my big fat sausage.
Jason @ Jan 3rd 2007 3:04AM
I must appologize gphoenix51...
Riiiiiiiiiiidddddgggge Racer!!!
Nick @ Jan 3rd 2007 6:22AM
Or Sony can just release the game for the rest of the world instead of taking measures to stop people from doing this? Geez, it's not like the game is in a different language or anything...
Oh and by the way, it's Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, which you cannot buy at the store for $20. Best you'll get is the original Tekken 5 or for those with PSPs, they can slap down $40 (?) for it.

Similar to the 360's method of blocking some regions because of licensing and copyright. Hell, even MP3.com won't show most of their vids outside of the U.S.
God damn you, licensing/copyright!

Just an FYI - as a member of the Banking Security Industry this IS a form of credit card fraud - although you are perpetrating it against yourself it is illegal and depending on your banks rules you can F yourself.
DrXym @ Jan 3rd 2007 9:23AM
Hmm, why would anyone be so desperate as to engage in minor bank fraud to obtain a game which is likely only a few days or weeks from appearing in the US store?

I have it. Its great. I have tekken 5, too. this is a much better game, due to balance issues-better for competitive play. Why bother with the update from Tekken 5? I play in tekken tournaments on a monthly basis, so it was well worth the HK dollars, in my opinion.
FraudGuy @ Jan 3rd 2007 10:46AM
Also remember that your credit card company will lay a huge fee on you at the end of month for currency conversion.
360FANMAN @ Jan 3rd 2007 12:21PM
Well at least we will have more Next Gen Games to play when we get there.

Its just a rumor not an offical statement. To believe it is the same thing as to believe BioShock is only a timed exclusive and will be coming to the PlayStation 3. Not saying it will just saying you take rumors for they are, rumors, not official statements.
Jonesy @ Jan 3rd 2007 4:04PM
@6 I've downloaded it and it is actually in another language lol, all the menus and sub menus are at least.
Ciaran Gallagher @ Jan 3rd 2007 6:23PM
If you actually went and done that just for a demo you'd definitely be slightly insane.
Sam @ Jan 3rd 2007 10:29PM
Hopefully by the time I pick up a PS3, this will be available in America
TRizzzzzoy @ Jan 3rd 2007 11:01PM
OK I just tried this and it didn't work, it kept saying my credit card was invalid, partially because the card is billed in the States and not Honk Kong, anybody know a way to bi-pass this?
CosmicCop @ Jan 5th 2007 5:14AM
Guys, I tried to download Tekken5 for PS3 from Hong Kong store. It does not work anymore. Sony must have plugged the hole already.
Chase @ Jan 17th 2007 11:36PM
I think the banks have bigger fish to fry than to worry about someone charging the equivalent of $20.00 to their own personal credit card.
