What's going on in '07? The same thing that went on in '06 - lots of pointless fanboy arguments obscuring the fact that they're arguing over which system has better derivative games.

The Loop could be so much better.

They come up with these great topics and bring on some excellent people to talk about them and just when it gets interesting that idiot jumps in and says "well, I'm sure theres a lot more that could be said about this but we have to take a commercial break." I reckon that this will happen again tonight.

Battle of the Franchises.

2007 will give us (Hopefully) Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War 3 and many other massive and venerable franchises from each of the Console Manufacturers.

It's time also for the Big 3 to put their money where their collective mouths are and pony up with the promises each made selling us these machines. Give us more GOOD interactive entertainment.

I'd also love to see some new IPs this Year. At the moment, Spore and Assasin's Creed seem fascinating. I'll see you on AOTS ;)

Agreed with #1 :P

Besides that, just probably small steps forward in games and I don't expect anything too big to show up... By 2008 is when I am hoping we will start getting more innovation and more developers go outside the box...

No offence, but that show blows. I honestly don't know who are their target audience? they talk about penis size & getting drunk on a gaming/tech show, so its not for kids. Yet they are all so childish as if they are 12, so its not for adults. So, My conclusion is the show caters to midgets in the porn industry, thats their target audience.

If it weren't for Layla's bulging womanhood of a pop up headlights, I wouldn't even watch the feed.

Lots of interesting things...

The ongoing struggle of video games to be seen as more than a form of childhood entertainment as 'first-gen' gamers age; the politics of gaming in Washington; the debate between cutting edge hardware performance vs. interactive fun in games; whether or not developers will come up with new and innovative game ideas; and who can forget Jack's attention-mongering, anti-game sentiment?

I see the downloadable console game scene getting fleshed out a bit as more companies jump on the retro and casual game bandwagon, all while the state of microtransactions (for both the games and added content), continues to be a point of debate.

I use both Xbox Live Arcade and Wii's Virtual Console. Both could have a stellar year competing with each other.
I just hope that week 1 of 2007 was a fluke (i.e. - Jacksquat on Live Arcade, two boring NES games in VC).

A lot will happen this year. Lot's of next gen systems will be sold. In what amounts is anyone's guess, though it looks like Wii will exceed sales expectations, 360 sales will continue to grow, and PS3 sales will stay constant though unimpressive. Each has a killer potential line-up - it all depends on what actually makes it to market in 07.

360 - Halo 3, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon, Crackdown
Wii - Smash Bros., Mario, Metroid, Sonic, WarioWare
PS3 - MGS4, FFXIII, RE5, VF5

Yes, 2007 is a good year to be a gamer.

The Wii!

Most importantly... Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It will change lives. Look at the following of Melee and how it's still probably the most played GameCube game, and the pro gaming scene around it, with being used in the MLG. Now that Brawl will have online, it's likely to have the same effect Halo 2 had on the Halo franchise.

Then pair that up with Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and more and you have a system that will do outstanding.

For non Wii related gaming, you have Halo 3, and GTA4 as your top games. 2007 might be one of the best years in gaming yet.

Probably, after all the exclusives for new-gen consoles get beaten to death, mention how a little sequel called God of War 2 is making the PS2 the sexiest 7 year-old in town. (Hey, for racehorses and consoles, seven is ancient). Hey, what's going to happen with Super Paper Mario? Ported to Wii, I hope. Yeah, that and whatever the above have said.

I agree with just about everything Tig said, but it bears repeating for emphasis. 2007 can very well be the year that decides a LOT of things:

- Where the gaming world stands in the gameplay vs. graphics department. This also encompasses the debate on whether gaming should be made to appeal more to the masses or more to the hardcore. By the END of 2007, seeing how well the Wii and PS3 are performing then will be a HUGE sign. How they are doing now is almost irrelevant, as everything now is based solely on hype and word of mouth and 1st year technology / experience.

- Can gaming finally become accepted by the adult crowd? As gamers continue to grow up, the anti-gaming adults of old are slowly being phased out (to put it as nicely as possible). And the anti-gaming adult world has also been given a wake-up call by the Wii: "Hey this gaming thing is actually fun!" Will this help fight the stereotypes that games are just violent and empty and meant for kids (despite the ESRB ratings systems' existence)?

- Speaking of violence in gaming, it'll be really intersting to see how the politicians against gaming trend goes. Though, to be honest, it'll be a much more important issue in 2008, during an election year. 2007 will just be a lead in to 2008. If it escalates in 2007 (more violent incidents blamed on games),it might mean video games could become a full on major topic with presidential candidates.

- Finally, with the advent of the Wii, XBox Live Arcade, Virtual Console, and Sony's download service, will this steer the trend of games away from remakes, sequels, and copycats towards more independent, cheaper, and creative ideas? Gaming is an entirely imagined medium. There are almost NO limitations to what kind of game can be made, yet 95% of the games are trying to steal the thunder from already existing ideas. Will independent gaming and these new outlets for new ideas pave way to a gaming revolution similar to the way movies went through a drastic revolution during the 70's?
