For $80.00 bucks it will sit there and collect dust.

So it really is just a computer. Why couldn't they allowed bluetooth keyboards out of the box. "Eventually" is all we seem get from Sony.

Ummm.. well, $80 is cheaper than most Bluetooth mouse and keyboard combos
See Newegg:

Or see Bestbuy

I'd love if this combo was bluetooth solely, I'd have it hooked up to my computer in no time!

So... will it work with my PC's Bluetooth network as well as the PS3's?

Oh, good! A trackpad that's useless to left-handed people. Just another of the many indignations my people have suffered over the years...

This makes me wonder if ps3 will try a mouse and keyboard FPS. Anyone know if this is possible? Youd probably have to separate servers with diff controls for online play. I've always thought that the first console to use mouse&keyboard-like controls for 3D shooters, etc, will just blow everyone away. I mean seriously I go from half-life 2 to Halo (which I love equally) and the controls in halo seem so restricting compared to mouse&keyboard. You can just zip around with a mouse, it just feels natural, more immersive. The only thing is, you need a desk...(unless you go with something wii-esque) Just a thought.

I used a KB/M in Quake 3 on my Dreamcast. It didn't impress.

What is so great about mouse control on FPS anyways. It is fast and easy, yes, but it being so much faster than you could realistically point and turn around anyways it doesn't seem to improve gameplay for me. Although, I am not as in to run n gun type games as I am tactical type shooters. For run n gun, I guess it is all about how quick you can aim.

@ 11, Wow Dreamcast did that? Well its preference of course, but the mouse does feel more accurate to me..it is an aquired skill though...you have to get good at picking up and re-positioning the mouse to do quick turns, etc..I found once I got used to it, the analog sticks seemed so slowed down..

More good news for those of us wishing to use the PS3 as a linux machine. Lol, at $600 it's an expensive games console... but its a cheap a55, high spec PC !!

but I guess KB/M would have to be modified for mainstream if something like it went to consoles. Something analog instead of the ASDW keys for movement would allow for you to crawl as well instead of having one speed for each direction, and it would probably have to be a smaller one handed ergonomic keyboard for the left hand instead of a full KB. Wii is on to something with the nunchuck controls for shooters, just too bad FPS's on the wii dont look too hot.

It just feels more free than analog sticks, like your movements on the mouse exactly translate on the screen, so it feels like you're really in control, like you're really there. Plus getting shot from behind in halo is a real pain when you cant whip around quick to return fire. Think about how quick youd turn around in real life. Dont get me wrong analog sticks aren't horrible, just find them a little restrictive.

poor design for a media couch board.

The trackpad should go below the keyboard like a laptop, thus also providing much needed wrist support and extra space when sitting on the lap. Yet another example of people who have no business going near design, designing stuff willy nilly without thinking.

Of course you can do mouse + keyboard on the PS3, there are settings for it and everything (key repeat speed, mouse left/right handed etc)

Heck you could do this on the PS2. I used to play UT this way, with a Mac keyboard + mouse. Worked great.

#12 Have you tried Linux on the PS3? It's not too bad but the 256 mb of "general" ram makes loading apps sooooo slow. If you just want a linux box you can easily build a better one for $600. If you want a game machine and a slow linux box then the ps3 is your best bet.

nerfgun - obviously im out of the loop on this one. Do games need to be programmed for KB/M compatibility or does it work for any fps?
