The hell is Microsoft doing?! First they screw over their fanbase of 9~10 million owners by creating a much better version of the 360 only a year after its release, and then try to act like it's a good thing?

Forces 360 owners to live with only 13GB of Hard Drive space for Live Content (the other 7 is for operating system stuff) AND makes $50 of profit off of each Hard Drive they sell.

$80 of profit off of their Wireless Internet adaptors

Forces old 360 owners to throw away their old systems and buy new ones, which MS makes $70 of profit off anyway.

Or you can talk about the Wireless controllers that don't come with power charging cords. That costs $20 a pop while Sony gives one free with their systems.

Hmm, sound fishy?

"Forces old 360 owners to throw away their old systems and buy new ones, which MS makes $70 of profit off anyway."

Please explain why I am forced to throw away my existing Xbox 360 for fucking HDMI or a bigger HDD. I only care about gaming. Since I don't care about downloadable movies, and I am not going to by HD-DVD, I want to hear your explanation as to why I need to throw away my 360...besides the fact that you are a Sony fanboy who clearly hates the system for no good reason.

having 'only' a 20gig hard drive, ethernet, and component out is what allowed gamers to play HD games over a *year* ago for $399.

that included HD cables, a headset, an HD scaler and lets not forget, rumble. things we got in 2005, that $600 of Sony doesn't provide in 2006.

I find it interesting that people claim the Wii is not direct competition to the 360

They are both video game consoles, they both play games, they both have online services, and they both sport downloadables

Just because the 360 is about 10x more powerful than Wii in terms of CPU and 7x more powerful in GPU, and the fact that Wii is going after a broader (not different, but broader) market, does not mean they are not directly competing. Indeed, the competition is more direct than PS3 v. 360, since Nintendo is trying to redefine the console business

Say my vision comes to pass, in 2 years, Sony is well behind in the market, but Wii and 360 are neck-and-neck, then you will no longer see Mr. Moore tout the virtues of Wii60, and you will start to see Microsoft say the same thing its fanboys tout, that Wii is not a console, but a children's toy

And yes, that is most likely 10.4 shipped, and the 10 million mark will ring true by the end of January or mid-February

Alex, i'd rather pay for a charge cable than get a controller with batteries that make your controller obsolete in a year or two, or pay for a console which is touted as next gen high definition true HD blah blah, yet i get composite cables...

I use my 360 to watch TV through my Media Center PC since I can get HDTV for free and record it easily. So my 360 is on for many hours at a time watching HDTV and I've never had any problems with it overheating or freezing or crashing. Although I did knock it over the other day when moving it and it's been taking longer to start and start Media Center, I still haven't had any problems with overheating or freezing. I don't think it would be problematic watching IPTV either.

IPTV only works (properly) when the ISP (and anybody who may be upstream of them) support IP multicasting from the TV head server.
Now what might be very interesting is if MS can get the 360 supplied as an optional head unit from your ISP. $100 extra and get a 360 instead of the generic unit (which aren't that cheap) - and it's got a built in HDD (although 10ish gig really doesn't cut it, so maybe zephyr) so PVR functionality isn't too far off.
If they could get that working, they've got an absolutely genius way of getting their consoles into the houses of millions of people who only have a passing interest in gaming currently.

My 360 is on all the time as a Media Center Extender. My PC has Windows Media Center and is my "Tivo". I watch my recorded, and Live, TV through my 360. I've had this setup for at least 10 months now. It does NOT HAVE HEATING ISSUES. Thanks.

"Well, actually, Microsoft CAN make good products...when they have competition."

Huh? When they HAVE to??? Does that explain why XP is about 5 years behind OS X?

The truth is MS makes most of its money from Office and Windows...where is is pretty much no comp.. So what is this 'better stuff due to comp' example you had at your fingertips?

HDMI is a frigging CABLE, there's no increase of resolution, colour performance or anything related to the xbox 360.

Sony should cease selling electronics and form up a marketing agency, it amazes me they have people somehow believing that HDMi is so superior to Component.

I've run identical games/movies on xbox 360 with component vs the PS3 with HDMI, Guess What? The 360 was a far superior picture.

If you're that bothered about feeding HDMI to your TV, buy a HDMI switching amp - voila, problem solved.

I don't know why everyone is saying the 10million number is a "shipped" number and not a "sold" number. News reports came out on Dec. 7th 2006 that MSFT shipped their 10 millionth Xbox. If Microsoft did indeed ship the 10 millionth Xbox over a month ago, it would make sense they actually sold 10.4 mil by the end of the 2006 year.

Refer to BetaNews: http://www.betanews.com/article/Has_Xbox360_Already_Won_The_War/1165514003

"Reaching the 10 million goal is just now a matter of sales: about a week ago the company shipped its ten millionth console. And from the looks of things, hitting the mark may not be that difficult."

The 10millionth shipped is old news fellas.
