Today's ye-haw-iest game video: Wii Play - Cow Run

Leave it to the Japanese to come up with a game featuring banjo music, a picturesque American countryside, and a bizarre cow running and smashing everything in site. As lame as this game might sound on paper, it actually looks like addictive Katamari-inspired fun. When's the last time you drove a cow around with Wii-mote? Probably never, and that's far too long a time to go without.
Check out the rootin' tootin' footage after the jump, and then look to score a ride of your own when Cow Run comes out for the Wii. No word yet if it includes cow tipping, but there's a game unto itself right there just waiting to be made.

Uh, the other day?

Someone needs to get a rocket launcher on that cow, quickly for Leto's sake.
Is it wrong that I find it to be the most alluring gameplay video I've seen in at least a year? Screw Mario, I want to ride a cow into a scarecrow, now!

Leto...
You went through the hassle of posting to say
"Booooooooooring"
Aren't there other articles that you could comment on where you might actually add to the conversation?
You only seem to surface when there's an opportunity to make a snarky comment about a Wii game. Surely your only talent isn't ripping on Wii. Please show the world what it IS that you're good at.
Until then, just go away.
Seriously....

It is one of the better Wii Play games, but I'm starting to get the feeling that there's just a little too much hype for the game in North America. As a PAL user, I find Wii Play an amusing minor diversion for a very low cost (once you discount the value of the wiimote), but it isn't more than that. It has a fraction the longevity of Wii Sports.
ed @ Jan 6th 2007 3:45AM
yea its fun to play for short while, but its nothing more. However this is one of the better mini games and u can make the cow jump to by hoisting the wiimote and smashing yourself in the face most times :)
Rubang @ Jan 6th 2007 3:58AM
I was gonna get Wii Play for the Duck Hunt ("Shooting") game alone after trying it out at the demo kiosk at the mall. But I couldn't wait 3 months. I already have 4 controllers now; it's not gonna happen.
Rubang @ Jan 6th 2007 4:01AM
Also, in the Cow Run game, you can jump. That video was crap. Whoever was playing missed out on a lot of good scarecrows that were set up right in front of hurdles because they didn't know how to jump. You just lift the Wii remote upward really fast as if you're pulling the horns really hard.

A Flash game in 3D. Lovely.
cafeman @ Jan 6th 2007 5:11AM
Guys, seriously. Wii Play isn't that much fun. It's worth about the AU$5 I paid for it over the standard price for a controller, and not much more. There's about five to ten hours of entertainment in it, and that's it. Really.
People are going to be *very* disappointed when they get their hands on it. It's basically a collection of training exercises to teach you how to use the Wiimote. Unless you're really obsessive-compulsive, you'll only be briefly entertained.
muc @ Jan 6th 2007 5:27AM
really lovely flash game in 3D - the japanese people are crazy and amazing ! but i think wii is not my first choice
tony @ Jan 6th 2007 6:17AM
i gotta say, even though it's not as much fun as wii sports, wii play is pretty enjoyable. cow racing has probably produced the most humour during play, but i don't think it would work as a full game. that would be silly.
Blammo @ Jan 6th 2007 6:20AM
"Katamari inspired fun"???
How can you even compare crappy WiiPlay to Damacy?!? Ever since the Wii launch it seems to be trendy to dig crappy gameplay combined with crappy graphics... *shakehead*
playclever @ Jan 6th 2007 6:40AM
Cow Run is one of the better Wii Play games.
It also turned out to be my mum's favourite.
Wii Play features in order of noteworthiness:
1) Free Wiimote
2) Find Mii
3) Billiards
4) Cow Run
5) Tanks
6) The rest.
The shooting one doesn't have lasting appeal. The shape-matching game is plain AWFUL, and there are two games that are essentially Pong dressed up...
fleisch @ Jan 6th 2007 12:08PM
Wii play is really just a fun distraction as someone else said. Tanks with two people is excellent fun, shootings ok, air hockey game is meh...so so, billiards is glitchy and thats about it..the rest are pretty lame. sorry! get rayman instead if you want mini-game madness
altodarknight @ Jan 6th 2007 7:12AM
Cow racing is the best game on Wii play, followed by laser hockey. The games are small tech demo like games, but I have had quiet a bit of fun with them.
People say they lack longevity, but this is only true if you play them by yourself. They are multiplayer games, just like mario party and warioware. They are a lot of fun with other people, but only so much fun by yourself.
Tanks is totally crap though, the entire game is a broken concept (as in your not supposed to kill each other but you can, you have to use the honour rule to maintain the game). Every other game has a lot of fun in it when shared.
The other aspect of Wii Play is to teach people how to use the Wiimote intuitively, just like solitaire was originally made to make people more proficient with a mouse. My Dad is learning how to use the Wiimote with Wii play and actually loves the cow racing.
mietha CAG @ Jan 6th 2007 8:46AM
Looks dumb and simplistic, like far too many Wii games. Gee, I think I'll stick with my real systems.
Al @ Jan 6th 2007 12:47PM
I think I'll hold out for WarioWare. It's only what, about one and a half weeks away? Now that's mini-game madness!
As someone already said, Wii Play is basically just a bunch of little games that are designed to train you on how to use the Wii Remote. I mean, the thing comes with an extra controller.
If I was looking to pick up another controller I'd might as well get the little mini-game collection while I'm at it.
roflcopter @ Jan 10th 2007 6:06PM
I don't know what some of you people were expecting, these are basicly flash games, which you are able to play with the wiimote.
That said, the games are fun, and it worth its (relatively cheap) price for the duck hunt/shooting game and cow racing alone.
poke50uk @ Jan 6th 2007 1:48PM
Ive had this game since launch.. wii play is far more popular than wii sports in my friendship group.
This and tanks are the best two on the game.. it looks poo.. but when your picking the wiimote up for the first time its fantastic!
Dont compare it to wario ware.. it was desgined to be a E3 demo..
Rob @ Jan 6th 2007 9:15PM
It's worth the extra fiver, but it's not that engaging. It, along with Wii Sports, is the game my girlfriend and mum play. Then I chuck them off to play Zelda. :-)
Do the people slagging off Wii in here really think they're making a difference to anyone's opinions? They're entitled to theirs, but do they have to voice it as though they're the voice of reason amongst us crazies? They forget I'm entitled to my own opinion......
