I built a gaming rig for cheap that isn't top of the line but i Get at least 60fps in all games i throw at it. 20 inch widescreen LCD (200$) , Wireless Microsoft Mouse 2.0 / Wireless MS keyboard (70$), Surround Sound system for my PC with subwoofer (39$),
Emachines celeron 3.2ghz with 512 ddr2 dvd burner and 80 gig hd (298$), Upgraded to Geforce 7600 PCI-E (130$), Added another gig of DDR2 (100$) ... So i have an alright system for a few hundred bucks. If you include the cost of XBOX 360 games like 3 with the system or whatever then you have the cost of my setup. So no xbox 360 is _not_ cheaper than a Gaming PC. I have a box that runs games at 1280 x 1024 with all settings on high. As far as the old question goes.. which is _better_? Take a look at the screen shots on this page from a comparison of Prey PC vs. XBOX360. Both maxed out with their respective reolutions.. it even shows the different configurations of PC's it throws at the 360 - http://www.gamespot.com/features/6154261/p-4.html
Also on a sidenote, When i moved out and was forced to be an adult and live on my own, suddenly i couldn't afford to buy all these 50 dollar console games.. I just bought quake 4 and doom 3 for 10 bucks on amazon just now for pc. Ive had them ( i dont advocate piracy ... but yah ) , I only buy the games that truly deserve it. Computer games that cost 59.99 will be in the 10 dollar bin in a few months. Unlike console games where they maintain the inflated pricepoint. It's gay. Gaming on a 20 inch widescreen is also very fun. I have 2 wireless Playstation 2 pads with rumble that are hooked to it and i enjoy getting down with 2 player mario kart 64 or playing some playstation 1 on my computer. As for Graphics, PC wins... Functionality.. PC wins hands down. Price points can be debated. I could have replaced my Cheapass celeron with a pentium 4 D dual core for like 80 bucks but i havnt done that yet. I also can hook my computer up to my TV... most video cards have HD output ... so i grab the mid tower and set it next to the tv.. plug it in and turn on my bluetooth wireless pads.. all of a sudden I have a game system on my couch that matches a 360... but i can play tens of thousands of games .. emulators or whatever. And watch all the torrent porn that I want. ahhahah Don't get me wrong I love the 360.. I like the ps3 .. but you cant compare em to a mid range pc.. and the Geforce 8 cards are only gonna get cheaper this year.. As soon as the ps3 gets to its half life the 8800 will be around 199... Thats the sweet spot im waiting for..

All I think is that the PC shits over the consoles like Battkefield 2142 does on GoW. Yes it may cost more to be a PC gamer, but the ups are so many that the price really all dosn't matter. here is my rig:
2 GB of Kingston RAM
Pentium D 2.93 Ghz Proccesor
Nvivdia GeForce 7950(512 MB of graphics memory)
RealTek High-Defenition Sound Card (and what moron above said there is no HD stuff on PC's)
My system only costs aout $1500
So go get a life and get past college you morons at your dumb Consoles.
Peace!

This irritates me. You can not compare a console to a PC. PC is a moving platform. The hardware isn't static and when you want to upgrade you don't have to buy a whol new unit like you do with a console. I had the same computer for 4 years. Only upgrade I needed to do in that time was a graphics card. It ran most games w/o a hitch. I recently upgraded my system recently mainly for Vista/DX10 games which are due towards the end of this year or early next. My old system still runs great. Plus I can do more than just play games on the PC. Which justifies the high cost. I spent $1500 USD on my new system. I don't know where you are getting this "cuz you can't play your PC games on your TV set" BS. That was true maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Modern computer video cards have TV video out. My old card and my new hard BOTH let me plug my computer to the TV. Only diff is that my new card allows for HD tv output. This is standard in all modern crads now. You do know that HD television sets are simply really big computer monitors right? Anyway, I expect my current system to pretty much outlive the XBOX386/PS3 lifecycle. Is the PC a worthy gaming platform? Hell yes.

Almost forgot. The only games that would make me want to buy a console are Halo 3, Gears Of War, and GTA4.
