GOW patches rough spots, host name removed [update 1]

I love GOW but this is stupid. All of are friends play ranked. We want to be able to see are stats. We do not stack teams. We usually have people waiting to get into are rooms when they restart. People are still going to cheat the system no matter what they do. The reason we play ranked is to get the Achievements. We want to play with friends not to stack teams but to be able to play as a team.

That sucks, it's lame you can't play a ranked match with your friends. If 8 friends want to play a ranked match they should be able to.

1. Maybe you didn't mind the system but I haven't been able to play a proper ranked match since the game was released because of stackers and friends kicking me out of "their" game. It royally sucked. Hopefully this will be better as that's a part of the game that was ruined for me and a lot of other folks.

I agree wholeheartedly with Zeke. Ranked matches have been ruined by people stacking teams, quitters, and players solely going for kill achievements. Good riddance to host names, until they can properly implement a "party" system a la Halo 2.

I can tell your r the bright one. You say you have not been able to play a proper ranked match.You must never have played a ranked match because you can't be kicked out of a ranked match. You must be playing player match. You will see less ranked matches due to this change.

If 8 friends wanna play, then go play a player match. Thank you epic for finnally fixing this problem. Now ranked matches will actually be fun.

Awwww how sad. #1 and his dumb little buddies can't cheat anymore. Good riddens. If you want to play as a team with your buddies then start a Player match. If you want to compete (fa dolo) with other players to earn achievements and a rank then play a Ranked match.

I agree with pat 100% the whole stacking and playing with friends was completely ruining ranked, it was so tireing being told to get over to locust or having the room abruptly end because it was full and the host's buddy didn't make it. I think this is a good tempory fix for now until they can get a party system implemeted, over on the gears forums Mark Reihn had some encouraging things to say about future updates... so here's hoping...
oh and if 8 friends played ranked the boosting would be HORRIBLE in this game abosolutly horrible. it's bad enough the way it was already hopefully this fixes it..

That is so lame that they are removing host names from ranked. Half the reason I still play this game is because my friend and I are able to play ranked together as a team as opposed to having to play with people that have no sense of teamwork at all. I am all for fair games but this is just ridiculous.

I haven't played online multiplayer on GoW yet, so I don't think I'll really know what I've missed or appreciate whats new. But from what I read in these comments, it sounds like the host name being removed was a good thing. I don't know if I would wanna be bitched to leave a game if I wanted to play ranked.

Is it our fault that you retartds who want to play ranked matches dont have friends, try to put your efforts into getting some rather then bitching about it, and if you're getting kicked from ranked matches HOST ONE! Please put down the console controller and turn off your Xbox 360 immediately. Then, get up, go to school and learn English. You need to worry less about clan stacking and more about what you're doing with your lives. Those comments were just painful to read. Have pity on your fellow forum readers.

You should be able to have 3 friends on your team, or a game with 7 friends to fill both. You don't want to be the only guy who isn't the host's friend, but a game based on teamwork should allow you to form a team. The community has been very vocal about this, and I'm surprised that Sony hasn't jumped all over them for it.

You can't get kicked from ranked you can only be kicked from player match.

If you want to play with friends, then play in Player Matches - it's that simple. Ranked matches are meant to test your skills as an individual, when placed on a team of random players. It's not meant for you to stack teams with friends or clan members so that they can help you improve your position on the leaderboard. If you can't handle playing without your friends and clan members, then Ranked was never meant for you in the first place.

You could also display some level of patience and wait for Epic to figure out a party mode, like Halo supports. When you're fighting against another highly skilled team of four, and getting 'worked' yourself, I imagine you'll be singing an entirely different tune..

I welcome all of these changes, especially those based around ranked matches. The way many people have been playing, it was defeating the whole purpose of ranked. If you want to play with your friends so badly, uhmmm go with the non-ranked games folks ... is this really such a big deal? Do you really need a high rank to feel better about yourself? Come on now. I certainly play a lot more ranked now with these changes. Thanks Epic!

I don't mind the shorter distance change for grenade tags either, as long as it matches the distance required to chainsaw someone. I swear at times I've been chained from quite an unrealistic distance. That thing seems to suck a person in like vacuum cleaner on steroids.

Where's the fix to prevent the accidental 5 vs 3 which I've seen happen in both ranked and non-ranked?

I actually hate playing with people I don't know in ranked matches. Because its so great to be in a room with three idiots who refuse to talk or let you know where the enemy is. If they're going to remove the host's name could they at least implement a goddamned party system?

It's arrogant pricks like you that are the reason I stopped playing Gears online. The system was specifically set up so cheaters like you wouldn't be able to team play with all your clan buddies. Play a player match if you're incapable of enjoying yourself without friends. Youre obviously too busy exploiting the system to realize some people want a fair match, not to be put with a bunch of idiots who refuse to start a game until there friend can join there side. I look forward to playing a game where the host doesnt tell me to shut up and switch sides "because he says so."

Please cry more it helps, and if it is people like me who made you quit playing gears good riddance. No one can "make" you stop playing but yourself, you could deal with it like the rest of the people who still play but you decide to crawl back into your hole and give up, and most likey that translates into your real life experiences.

The only people who cry about wanting the host name removed are people on xbox with no friends. The only thing they can talk about is other peoples grammer and spelling. I doez nOt ned goood spelng to wiN a MaTCH with AspectRatio or Zeke. I will even play with my eyes closed. Saying you have been booted from ranked matches really comes from someone that plays the game.

steve50310: You CAN be yelled at over and over again to leave a ranked match because the host and his buddies are waiting for friends. If you don't leave they end the game. Or worse. That's what I meant. I think you knew that already.

Hosting a ranked match is worse unless of course you also have a gang of people to find your game real quick.

By the way, a lot of the other folks that gave up on ranked matches did play great in player matches. Met lots of them. Now we get to return to the ranked games and exact some revenge. Sweet. :-)

How is hosting a game worse? That's probably the most bone-headed thing I've heard in my entire life. Hosting a match is the best way to avoid team stacking. Tell me, do you really think a team of four people is going to try and join the same game? The odds are very slim they could all find it in time. You might run into two people that are playing together, and there is nothing wrong with that. Not to mention you get a big fat zero ping when you host.

Perhaps you lack the patience required to fill a ranked game, or the knowledge to open NAT on your router?

I'm not sure how this works now but when Gears of War came out me and my buddy joined the same ranked matched without looking at the host name. We would private chat and search Warzone 5 rounds at the exact same time. When the list of games popped up, we would recieve pretty much the same list of games available. So I would tell my friend, for example, "Do you see War Machine 5/8 at the top of the list? Good I'll meet you there" The lists would usually match and we got along just fine.

Mind you, we played at similar times and we were pretty even ranking so maybe that affected the list. Also, his 360 is busted and because of the holidays the replacement is taking a LONG time to arrive, so I haven't tried this in over a month. Lemme no if it works guys:)

Why are you guys encouraging this? Sure pricks like Jack hurt my side of the argument more than help, but the point is that they're raping our right to have fun with the game that we purchased. There are cheaters out there, and they've pretty much ruined Halo online. Nevertheless the only time I had fun on Halo in the first place was playing with my friends. It's the reason I play online and I'm sure a large majority shares my concerns. It's not like Live is some magical service that fell out of the sky, we pay for and we support it. I could understand if Microsoft offered the service for free but when I'm paying a monthly fee I want what I pay for. I want Live to be good, fun, friendly, and overall enjoyable. Unfortunately people aren't fun, friendly, and enjoyable, but just because a small minority is ruining a service doesn't mean the majority should have to suffer. We as the majority need to become active members to fix the problems on Live by doing so: leave feedback, file complaints, e-mail live, do whatever you have to do to get your message through. I could list pros and cons to the thing all day. I stay on the side that you should be able to play with your friends on Live in a competetive match. Trueskill is garbage because there is no way you will accel with an incooperative team or even quitters.

While I think that playing with friends in ranked is unfair I think that there should be clan options. You can create a clan with your friends, play against other clans and have an overall team ranking and an individual ranking. Gears of War is a FREAKING strategy game. I am tired of noobs not talking on their mics or running and gunning and being blown to bits by the other team. When playing with people you know you also can count on them not to drop out when they start losing (happens too often in gears). Epic needs to add ranked clan support pronto.

I'm am so glad the voice issues were fixed. It was so annoying to start a game with friends, have someone else join, and not be able to hear them. I'm just wondering what the security cameras in ranked matches were..

Isn't this all to late. Peoples stats have been tweaked. I say they should clear all stats, take away multilayer achievements, and start the revolution.

Hell disable achievements for clan ranked matches but keep up the leaderboards. I want to know how my clan ranks up against other clans around the world. That is the simple reason why I want to play with my friends, because I want to see how good I can do as a team with people I know. I did it in halo 2 and man was it fun. Knowing that we were the top 10 % players really gave me an awesome feeling.

I would like to see how me and my friends RANK up as a TEAM against the world. That is the #1 thing I was hoping with this game since it seams very team strategy based. I don't even care if the clan ranks don't effect your individual score but only effects your team score. That's what I want to see how good my team is in leaderboards, not how good we work alone, but how we work TOGETHER.

I'm sorry this can't be refuted, these are my absolute reasons of why I want clan matches, not to cheat you dumb shts. I can't read the minds of others, and don't even try to act as if you can read mine. I don't mind that they got rid of the ability to see the host name, I just hope later they implement some form of rank match system designed for four of your friends.

The security cameras are the ability to check out different parts of the map with the left and right trigger.

2ndly, part of the problem with creating a ranked clan match option is that people still wouldn't use it if it were available. They would continue to go into player ranked matches and play with their friends against total strangers.

That was the case with SC:CT. You could never find a ranked clan match because everyone was playing ranked games with their friends. Nobody wanted to wait for a game to start or show up.

No one really has commented on why me playing with my friends inhibitied your fun. As long as I don't have a room of 8 people i know boosting that has nothing to do with the Leaderboards. And if i have a team of 4 people , that doesn't screw with your fun either. Is it my fault you're stuck with 3 people you don't know , who refuse to talk to you? No its not . So why should I be penalized in a TEAM BASED GAME, for wanting to play with people who're gonna act like it? Play fucking Unreal or Quake if you wanna play alone.

Miles, you playing with your friends inhibits other people's fun because since they're you're friends, you probably already have a strategy and plan that you've established.

Since everyone else has to play with strangers, they have to develop their strategy on the fly. By the time they've figured out a plan to counter yours, it's too late.

It's a team based game, but that doesn't mean that it's fair to have a team that already has their strategy together and doesn't have to develop it on the spot.

I think the point is, it's not set up so that you can play with your friends for a reason and purpose, to do otherwise is to tamper with the original intention of the game makers and the ranking system.

See how good your are playing without your friends. Then try to get better.

After Tuesday, anyone I play against that is playing with their friends, I'll report as some form of tampering, since that's what they're doing.

you people are completely retarded, it should all be like this, you learn how to play the game and meet people in player matches, then after you know how to play and know a couple of people then you go and play ranked matches, im sick of all you little bitches complaining about dieing and they have a team so fucking what learn how to play the game and even if you dont win the match you going to get a fair amount of points which should be the reason you playing ranked matches to get points, and that the other team has a strategy already is bullshit because even when i play with people i dont know i tell them what to do and where to go and we do just fine, and when my friends are online i look for games with people that have teams for some competition, even if my team doesnt talk to me i get around 20 kills in a 10rounder... so you guys just suck and are not good enough so your only excuse is to complain that they have a team... im ranked like 1700's and was working my way up but ima quit now and play rainbow six or something, until they figure this shit out... i hate you people that complain because you suck, just think about it if you were good at the game you wouldn't get owned even if they had a team, and i say this from experience... whoever said that you people got no friends is right, try not talking so much nonsense and maybe you'll get some friends.

there should be a a matchmaking jus at halo, this update was stupid and i thought it would be something to MAKE a matchmaking system SUCH AS a 4v4/3v3 CLAN MATCH or be able to find quickest rank match. Like I said, the reasons why I shouldn't play with my friends is still dumb. What I've basically heard is : " You should learn how to fight with strangers because I have to." I have fought with strangers , then they became my friends. If I want to play with a bunch of strangers I'll buy the Wii and play with a bunch of random faces. Besides if Epic could guarentee that I wouldn't be stuck playing with a Japanese guy or some pothead who refuses to talk , this might actually seem fair. BTW, I played every game tonight with 3 guys I know. What a waste of programming.

I love Gears, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the ranked aspect. The game is sorely lacking a party feature, which would make ranked matches so much more enjoyable. I mean, it's hard enough to even find a ranked match, and then there's connectivity issues, and quitting, and so on. Now, on the other side of things, I have also fallen victim to the typical jackass host. The verbal "abuse" (I use the word abuse lightly because it's mostly amusing to listen to those monkeys scream like idiots at me) is enough to drive anyone with dignity nuts, but I guess I just grin and bear it. Sometimes I exact revenge on the battlefield and make them eat their words, and then I'll get raped. Either way, I have fun with it.
For those of you who have quit ranked, the only thing I can tell you is to suck it up. I don't mean that in a derrogatory way, but if you know they're assholes, and that you're the bigger person by just ignoring it, then why let them keep you from enjoying the game?
Now, back to the main issue: I honestly think ranked would be so much better with a party system. And maybe if more people starting playing it. C'mon, trying to find a ranked match is a half hour ordeal at times.
