Sega announces five new VC Genesis games
Via press release, Sega has announced the upcoming release of five new Virtual Console games for Wii expected sometime in the first quarter of this year. New Genesis titles hitting the emulation service include Streets of Rage, Bio-Hazard Battle, Gain Ground , Comix Zone and Bonanza Bros. Though we'd assume all five games would cost the precedented 800 Wii Points ($8), the press release reads "prices to start at 800 Wii Points," leaving open the possibility that Sega could follow Hudson's lead of increasing VC prices. That would be weak sauce, as they say.

Streets of Rage!! Oh yeah!! Love the soundtrack. Yuzo at his best. Gain Ground was pretty fun back in the day, too. I wonder what other games are scheduled this month...?

Comix Zone?! WOOHOO!

The whole VC thing is turning out to be weak sauce.

WHERE'S STREETS OF RAGE 2!? We all know SOR1 sucks ass... I mean cmon, the special ability is to call in on a radio and bomb the entire screen. Seriously, that's incredibly retarded...

And mopolization has officially began, strap on your seat belts, get your jerky in your hand, and let the fats roll.

Streets of Rage was awesome...it was like a ripoff of Double Dragon with awesome music and sound effects.
Here's hoping for the epic Streets of Rage 2!

My thoughts exactly, Chenry.

No XBLA love? I'm starting to question Sega's business sense, after releasing the garbage they call Sonic they choose to ignore a larger audience on the 360?? Something's wrong with this picture.
McTendo @ Jan 8th 2007 7:34PM
Turbo games went back down to 6 bucks already.
I have no idea why it was JUST RType that was 8 bucks. Weird considering it's the crappiest VG game I own. (Super Star Soldier is way better, IMHO)
I love the Streets if Rage series and downloaded that Streets of Rage Remake/Remix for PC.
Can't wait to get the whole trilogy for VC.
BlessedBullet @ Jan 8th 2007 7:55PM
Streets of Rage and Comix Zone are classics... but they're not worth $8 bucks each.
@Crimson
They don't care about 360 because in order to get on X-Box Arcade, you actually have to do some work (add achievements, leaderboards, co-op, etc)
SonicRift @ Jan 8th 2007 7:38PM
I... already have Comix Zone on PSP... I want it on the Wii, but comparing the $25 I spent on the Genesis collection getting all those games to the money I'd spend buying those same games again later on the Wii... I just can't justify it.
SonicRift @ Jan 8th 2007 7:39PM
Also, BlessedBullet, they'd probably have to make it multiplayer over Live. Probably the trickiest bit...
PsyClerk @ Jan 8th 2007 11:36PM
Like #6, I too have three of those five games on the Genesis Collection on PSP. If you didn't want to drop the $25-$30 on the PSP version (or you don't have that system), there's a PS2 version for even cheaper.
Now is a good time to point out that paying $8 for Gain Ground should be evidence enough to declare one legally insane.
Eggman @ Jan 8th 2007 9:07PM
We've already gone over why R-Type was 800 points. Many times. It was CHEAPER for us in the US because it was actually two games for every other territory. We got BOTH R-TYPE I AND II FOR 800 POINTS. HOLY CRAP READ.
It was CHEAPER CHEAPER CHEAPER CHEAPER CHEAPER
Sol @ Jan 8th 2007 10:14PM
Streets of Rage ripped off Final Fight more than any other game; the enemies were more or less the same in both games. Streets Of Rage 2 was better than the original in every way so I hope we do not have to wait too long for that one.

@ frodo
That site your name links to sucks, no wonder every article has 0-1 comment/reader. :/ Don't know why you would link to such a failure, but then again judging by your comment I can see why.

or everyone could just get Beats of Rage for free, on almost every platform known to man, and with dozens of conversion addons.
VC prices are far too high.
