Top XBLA title Geometry Wars headed to PC [update 1]
During the Microsoft keynote at CES on Sunday, Microsoft gave us evidence that surprise hit Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (an Xbox 360 launch title) is headed to the PC (the confirmation occurs at timestamp 44:28 on the official keynote video). No surprise there, because genuine hits like GW are so rare that hay must be made while the sun shines. We've already blogged about a mobile version of the game; a PC version was inevitable.
No word on timing or price, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect it to land this year for between $5 (the price on XBLA) and $20 (the price for most "casual" PC games).

Grid wars is ass compared to the real deal. You wouldn't even try to pass that fake off if you'd played both.

Exactly what #1 said. Personally, having played both, I prefer Grid Wars for its slightly different mechanics, so regardless of whether it costs $5 or $20, I won't buy Geometry Wars for my PC.

Wait, I already bought Geometry Wars on XBL...Do I have to buy it again to play it on PC? If so that ridiculous. I thought they were talking about moving my digital media anywhere to any device. And to do it at full price is not moving anything anywhere, except money out of my wallet.

I honestly think that XBLA is going to turn into Live Arcade, which is bad ass. a multiplatform arcade system would be awesome!

Not sure I would want to play this game without dual analog sticks. WASD + Mouse would work but be a little awkward I think. Unlike most FPS games I think you would need more precision movement than what WASD offers. Definitely have to hookup the 360 controller to play it.

I've seen Robo-clones moving at R17* ever since Geometry Wars came out, and I still don't like any of them besides Robotron 2084.
Mu-cade, on the other hand, is original enough for me to mention.

Probably wont have to buy it twice. So long as you log in with your LIVE account. The games are tied to account, not machine. I can go over to a friends house and log in and play my purchased games.
Pretty much every XBLA game is compiled for Windows and 360, so we'll see them on both platforms eventually. The service will probably be a mirror of your 360, cept on a PC.
This will be nice on long business trips with a laptop.

I don't really see how they could charge you again for Geometry Wars if you bought it over Xbox.
I don't have any XBLA games, but I believe, if you buy a game on 360 and then use the same Live Account on another, the game will be on that one. Since we are going to be using the same Live accounts and be playing these XBLA games against people over Live, it would be ridiculous not to be able to play games you already own.
And this isnt like having a game you buy for one console, playable on every console. Microsoft is attmepting here to make the PC and 360 cross-compatible, so this should be expected.

@Collision891: It would be nice to only pay once, but do you pay only once when getting a PC and Mac version of an application? I wasn't too happy to find out it would've cost an extra $5,000 to relicense software to update my Macintosh office to PCs.

Geometry Wars will be the first Achievement-ENABLED game for the PC. So you'll be getting Achievements recorded on Windows Vista that'll be shared with XBox Live.

Hmm, I don't see why you shouldn't pay again for the game. If for example you bought Splinter Cell Double Agent for Xbox360, and then for some misterious reasons you want the same game on your PC, then tell me, why you shouldn't pay for PC version ? After all, it's another copy which someone who haven't bought xbox version, I mean pure PC user would pay with no excuses.
I'd gladly pay for pc version of Geometry Wars, hell, I'd pay for PS3's BlastFactor as well.

I got the chance to play it at CES today. It still has a few bugs, once you get past 100,000 the sound starts to lag and it is really processor intensive. After i started to play the fans in the computer had to speed up alot. Halo 2 is really great on the pc. Shadowrun is beautiful.
