Xbox 360 controller on PS3? Blasphematical!

We love all our sibling sites, including the shiny and new PS3 Fanboy which has really been through the wringer during the launch period. They've got a post up detailing how you can ditch your SIXAXIS and use the tried and true Xbox 360 controller instead. It's already able to use the Wiimote, now this -- so what's next? Atari 2600 controllers and laser pointers?
Anyhow, nice hack. If they can just make the rumble work on the PS3, that would be slammin'.

having both consoles, this would be awesome because i HATE sixaxis. HATE!!!!!!!! everyone talked about the wiimote being gimmicky. no, the sixaxis is the gimmick. i feel more and more everyday that the entire ps3 is a gimmick. sony needs to justify this $600 "investment." at least for me. love my 360 though.
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 8th 2007 10:41PM
That's the Xbox Controller-S. Who are you trying to fool? :p
Fale @ Jan 8th 2007 10:51PM
@2 - no that is actually the 360 controller, see no black/white button on the face and the big X in the middle is pushy
I would live this.. the PS3 controller sucks
Defenestrator2.0 @ Jan 8th 2007 10:54PM
Sony stealing other people's ideas/technology? *GASP* I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED!
mkoracer @ Jan 8th 2007 11:04PM
OK, first I haven't used the PS3 controller.. but isn't it the same as the PS2 controller??? I think the PS2 controller is superior to the damn xbox/xbox360 because the two analog sticks are side by side. Try playing a ganga fight night on ps2 then playing on 360!!!! It is damn hard to switch because your hands are at a 20 degree angle difference between the two. WTF hell reason would MS have besides copyright to change the analog sticks to be off center?
xno @ Jan 8th 2007 11:08PM
well considering that the xbox controller is a deformed copy of the dualshock......c'mon you just swich the d pad with the analog and what do you get? ms really burned their brains off when they came up with this design.

its ok its not like the world is going to end! And who really gives a crap? If you are a hard core player you will get used to it. and lighten up its actually quite funny.
there is a difference the PS3 controller is much lighter and a few more things i believe, but cannot remember.
BIGGEN @ Jan 8th 2007 11:20PM
5 and 6 essentially the ps3 and ps2 controllers are the same. THAT'S THE POINT. just with an added gimmick that adds nothing to the gameplay. i don't know what ganga is, but fight night on the 360 feels more natural than it did on the ps2. the thumbsticks on the xbox/360 controllers have the four little nobs and the dips in the middle. very subtle, but adds so much more to the feel. and if you look at the xbox/360 controllers as deformed, well whatever, but deformed or not, they're more comfortable and responsive because of it.
Blizz419 @ Jan 8th 2007 11:32PM
wow the PS controller superior, thats funny considering having the 2 analogs side by side like that is less ergonomic, were the dpad is located on the PS is dominate input for control but dpad is inferior to analog therefor dpad belongs in the secondary input location which is were xbox has it, therefore the ps controller is inferior foolish sony fanbots.
ill trooper @ Jan 9th 2007 12:03AM
I have the Wii, the 360, and the PS3... I'm not mad at the PS3 controller, although I wish they could have worked out the 'rumble' lawsuit a little more in favor of us the consumers. I like the lightness, and I don't know what Blizz419 is talking about, the inverted placement of the analog stick/d-pad on the two controllers is not 'inferior/superior' on a global level, certain games benefit on both systems... He's using straight fanboy logic talk, saying "dpad belongs in the secondary input location which is were xbox has it," as I could easily see a Sony fan saying the same thing, with 'Sony' in the operative.
No biggie to me. Miss that rumble though. Also, if we need to call people out for copying, where did the Xbox's 'white and black' buttons go? Ah, yes... Up on the shoulders, where Sony put them, and the SNES before that.
Cuja @ Jan 9th 2007 1:40AM
Precisely #9. 360 controller rules. Straight thumb right stick analog of the 360 is superior to a Sixaxis D-pad in the same location and vastly superior to a Sixaxis off cock right thumb analog stick along with its motion sensing.
Jamesology @ Jan 9th 2007 2:16AM
You're an idiot #9; just b/c you still use that word fanbot/fanboy. Can you tell me who isn't a fanboy in this website? Seriously find one? Except you; cuz your an idiot.
Richie Rich @ Jan 9th 2007 2:52AM
And if they could just make the motion sensing work on the 360 controller.
vaylen @ Jan 9th 2007 2:54AM
Actually what would be impressive would be if you could get an xbox2 controller to be motion sensitive...
Extinction @ Jan 9th 2007 4:33AM
@4 "Sony stealing other people's ideas/technology? *GASP* I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED!"
Are you retarded? Sony isn't stealing anything (as usual, since most cases of them stealing are also made up) This is a driver for LINUX to use 360s controller. And PS3 just happens to run linux
Metalmurphy @ Jan 9th 2007 5:47AM
You guys are retarded, first off the patent for the Six Axis has been registered since 1999, secondly, remember how they advertised the Boomerang controller? "As comfortable as holding a steering wheel" and it showed some diagrams of them holding it and TURNING IT, why do you think they we're advertising it like that? Maybe because it was supposed to have motion sensing? Think for a bit before speaking nonsense...
Also Wiimote and Six Axis are VERY diferent, Wiimote uses infrared to detect movement, the Six Axis uses accelerometers, also it is ALOT more then a simple tilt controler, it just doesn't detect tilting, it detects aceleration and general movement, so the controller knows HOW FAST ur moving it and tilting it. So comparing it to MS controller is plain dumb.
Rubang @ Jan 9th 2007 5:55AM
@16, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Rob Holiday @ Jan 9th 2007 7:10AM
I've been waiting for something like this. I can't stand the 'SUXASSES' controller. The analog sticks are too close together. My thumbs interfere with each other when move towards each other. The triggers are uncomfortable to use when using both analog sticks. That's probably why RFoM uses the right button to shoot rather than the right trigger. The 360 controller is MUCH more ergonomic.
NoHitHair @ Jan 9th 2007 7:47AM
Rubang:
Agreed.
cyberfrog @ Jan 9th 2007 10:13AM
I don't mind the layout of the analog stick on the ps2 pad. I do like, though, how the xbox controller inverted the tops. When playing games like fight night, the inverted analog tops are much nicer on the thumbs, at least for me. That being said, doesn't anyone find it amusing that noone has made a dpad as nice as the sega one? sigh.
matt @ Jan 9th 2007 11:14AM
@16 Both the Wiimote and the Ps3 controller uses accelerometers. Infared is used for detecting position relative to your screen, not to detect motion. Maybe if the PS3 had that ability everyone would not be returning the thing to best buy for a Wii???
mkoracer @ Jan 9th 2007 11:16AM
Well, I'm not a hardcore 360 gamer, I'm just sore that I can't translate my PS2 fight night skills immediately over to the XBOX! (I'd also be mad if it was the other way around and I had an XBOX, I'm pretty sure;). Really though the N64 controller was the best ever... even though not 1 single version of street fighter 2 was released for it, it had the perfect layout for SFII, I mean 6 buttons, right there! zOMG! elite!
ExMcloud @ Jan 9th 2007 1:32PM
No #13 I feel your pain but Im glad MS didnt make their controller motion sensing because honestly its not their thing they should stay original
phipps @ Jan 9th 2007 5:48PM
HEY NICE!!!!
Pretty cool if you ask me!
vadermaggot @ Jan 9th 2007 10:26PM
I love the MS controller even when the duke came out it was better than the ps2 controller. Then when the s came out it was no contest. And the 360 controller is very sturdy and comfortable. I'd like to see most people play Halo 2 with a sixaxis.
GIRs91MJ @ Feb 7th 2007 4:14PM
the PS3 controller blows. The 360 has the best controller I have ever seen. And it feels the best out of every game system (which I have every system clear back to the Atari 1800 or one of those). And the 360 controller is actually closer to the Dreamcast controller then the PS3 controller. The motion sensor thing is crap. and the older xbox controllers just sucked on where they decided to put the B&W buttons along with the S&S buttons. they were out of your way during games. Atleast the 360 controller is easy to use and everything. I would LOVE this for my PS3.
