Xbox 360 IPTV in action

Those lucky guys over at Engadget received some quality time with yesterday's newly announced IPTV service for the Xbox 360. Details are still extremely vague as we have yet to hear specifics, but the Microsoft team is demoing the service at CES. Engadget posted some screen grabs of the service and over at on10 they have a video of the IPTV demo in action. We'll hopefully see how Microsoft plans to roll out the service and what companies have signed up in the coming months. Until we know more, is anyone really excited about getting IPTV running on your 360?

I'm excited, but at the same time expect flaws. It's MS, nothing is perfect right off the bat and it's no telling how long it will take to implement properly.

If it done right it could be massive, but i doubt it will be in the UK. It seams that BT will be the service provider in the UK which has already start rolling it out (with a settop box) but you need to switch to their highly priced and bandwidth limited service, use their router and then pay a subscription for the 6 (yea thats 6) channels. Their main draw is that the box doubles as a DVR and "freeview" box, but the freeview and dvr functions are only available in freeview areas, something you can get for alot cheaper without subscriptions.

I'm excited at the potential, but I don't think my cable company will support it. I have no need for a landline in my home. I use cell,voip,and cable for my telecom needs. From my speculation, I would see this MicrosoftTV becoming a bundle with DSL service providers. I will never put a POTS line back in my house unless DSL somehow becomes much better than cable for internet access, so unless cable decides to support it, I guess I'm screwed.

Hopefully it works well over the wireless adapter!

I think the big question at this point is on the actual IPTV end. We already know that the 360 can handle video transmitted through the home.

What kind of service will IPTV provide? What content? What will the requirements be? What speed of internet connection will you need? How many different 360s/set-top boxes will be able to have IPTV streamed to it? How much will it cost? etc etc etc
