Err, I've been playing every single day for 2 weeks and I just got the update this morning. I don't know what you above posters are talking about..
pandlcg @ Jan 9th 2007 4:07PM
They're just saying that the improvement listed in joystiq's post are actually from an update that was almost a year ago, as pointed out by the first poster. The rest of the posters are just being assholes.

Oh, that's the 2006* update..

Yeah this update gave me the 3 lights. After 45 minutes on the phone I have sent this email to Microsoft. This is my 3rd 360
Hello,
I would like this email to go to a supervisor with a proper response please. I am currently very unhappy with Microsoft and the Xbox 360. I just finished a 45 minute phone call with support after my third Xbox360 gave the 3 red lights. I was running the update for my system that was released today when the system stopped working and gave the three lights. Please keep in mind that this is my third time shipping off three different 360's and they have all been very well ventilated. I feel that Microsoft as a whole has dropped the ball. When I first purchased my 360 I bought the extended warranty for $60. After Microsoft realized that there was an issue with the 360 you increased your warranty to 1 year without charge. I requested compensation for my extended warranty but received information from the supervisor stating that Microsoft does not compensate for these issues. The rep then offered to cancel my warranty to receive a refund! I refused the offer and am very unhappy with the Xbox360 product. I game often and do own other consoles. I have considered selling my 360 due to this issue and am willing to purchase a PS3 because of my problems over the past year. Please contact me pertaining to this issue. Again I would appreciate a supervisor response. The rep that worked with me was very nice and though she left me on hold several times she tried to resolve the issue to the best of her knowledge.
Thank you,
Justin

@ Justin
You claim that Microsoft dropped the ball because you've had a bad run of luck.
Yes, some 360s may not work correctly, if you haven't noticed they are very intricate pieces of machinery, something is bound to go wrong somewhere down the line.
And you mentioned switching to PS3, did you even own a PS2, because I have gone through more of those than any product I've ever owned due to faulty manufacturing, and from what I read, and heard over the past few years, so have many other people.
What are you gonna do when your PS3 overheats, or freezes or whatever, because it's bound to happen.

i personally HATE people like you... you bitch like everything has to be perfect, and like their are no problems in any product.....
Sure you had an unlucky run... iv only had to replace my console once, and that took all of 30 mins :) i just took it back to the store and said its broke, gimmi another, and they did. (gotta love the UK's 12 month warranty on all electricals)

My 360 started crashing and finally got the ring of death Monday night. It was still totally dead Tuesday morning, so I called MS since it's 2 weeks shy of 1 year since I bought it. (Born on date is October 2005.)
They accepted it for repair, no problem. I just said I bought it in the first week in February even though the serial indicated it was quite old (I think it was a returned present.)
On a whim last night, I fiddled with it and got it to turn on, sign in to Live and download this update and it's been working fine since (I stream HDTV from Vista, so it gets alot of use.). I think I'll still return it, but I thought that was interesting.
Does anyone have experience returning a semi-functional 360? Do they alway send a refurb or could I get my own back with some repairs -or- *GASP* no repairs?
