Heavy Weapon next week on Xbox Live Arcade
Here's a thought: maybe there's a clever strategy behind tomorrow's Xbox Live Arcade release. With most gamers preoccupied with the new Gears of War maps, it's the perfect time to re-release Ms. Pac-Man (remember, this was Xbox Arcade's launch title). With the overused classic out of the way, and the Gears maps thoroughly romped, next week, we'll be ready for a major XBLA release. Enter: PopCap's Heavy Weapon.Xbox 360 Fanboy has confirmed rumors that Heavy Weapon is scheduled for release on January 17 for 800 points. Sure, there's already a free stripped-down browser-based version out there (right here), but the deluxe PC version retails for $20. If you're down for another tank shooter -- this one's side-scrolling -- the XBLA Heavy Weapon is the version to own; plus it supports Live co-op. Hoorah!

I guess they couldn't get Moon Patrol and opted for this flash game instead.

I would like to see more board games like monopoly, trivial pursuit, wheel of fortune for xbox live arcade, and games like double dragon.

Well,... it's a step up from what's been shipping lately, like Novadrome. Man that one sucked.
Danzig @ Jan 9th 2007 6:17PM
Word. I only played the demo but I spent the entire time with my car flipped over. It was Nova-Lame.
Heavy Weapon could totally renew my faith in the original XBLA offerings.

Personally, I can' wait for the new XBLA title from PopCap.
What's better then shooting enemies with a tank.. Oh yeah, doing it on Xbox Live while you talk smack to you buddy down the hall!
PopCap delivers! Heavey Weapon is, as they say,
"The Business!

stiq of joy, I have been working on something right up your alley using the XNA developers kit. I am hoping for a release date this century!

Dude Heavy Weapon PWNS yer mom. All these other whack ass games blow chunks. BIG chunks. Why would I play a board game on my TV anyway..What a NOOB.
diskoboy @ Jan 9th 2007 6:49PM
Personally, I'd rather play Ms. Pac-Man.
My nephew has Heavy Waepon installed on my PC for when he visits. It's really not that great.

I always liked the Heavy Weapon PC game what with the way you could stack all your different guns on top of each other till you got missles and lightning bolts and flak and orbs and lasers all going at once. Should be cool for XBLA, particularly if you get to go multiplayer.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jan 9th 2007 6:53PM
"and games like double dragon."
I can't wait for Double Dragon. It's going to be the Shizzit.

I hope they put Bookworm Adventures on XBLA. My wife got it with her RealArcade sub, and it's pretty sweet. It would rock with a co-op or versus mode on live.

Wasn't normal Pac-Man a launch title? Ms. Pac-Man is the game that's coming out tomorrow and it is new to XBLA.

Bought it a while ago for my PC on a random whim, not going to buy it again on XBLA.
Longcat @ Jan 10th 2007 8:39AM
I'd been playing a bunch of Heavy Weapon at work (ah, the joyful perks of PartnerNet), and I'll definitely admit, it's not the greatest of sidescrolling shooters... but it's certainly a hell of a fun game. Lots of explosions, and unleashing the first nuke is a great feeling. The graphics for that look awesome.

I am with stiq of joy. I would love to see more classic board and card games on XBLA. Also why is there no chess game yet? Or checkers? WTF we have Backgammon but no chess or checkers?
Josh @ Jan 10th 2007 9:29AM
Pinball is what Live Arcade requires. PINBALL!
It is coming, too, just not fast enough! :(
razer @ Jan 10th 2007 2:01PM
It has CoOp play! I am on it! That's one thing really nice about the 360 that is overlooked in the console wars.. Online Coop! It's like going back to the arcade days when you had your buddy standing next to you at the machine blowing away baddies or fighting against you. Good times!

This is the greatest mouse-controlled shmup ever. very fun to play and look at. tons of levels and powerups, plus a nice difficulty ramp. In other words, in not like japanese shooters with a million instant-death dots everywhere. Or other shooters where you barely break a sweat un til the first boss, who kills you three times in four seconds.
