Mastering disguise in new Wario DS
Siliconera has posted a series of diagrams detailing the stylus inputs that will make up the core gameplay of Wario: Master of Disguise. The game launches in Japan next week (as Kaitou Wario the Seven) and sees Wario returning to his platform roots with some added DS gimmickry. Players will draw symbols on the touch screen to change Wario into his seven disguises, including a graffiti artist, dinosaur, and doctor.Aside from the d-pad, Master of Disguise will be entirely stylus-controlled. The US release is scheduled for early March.

[sarcasm] Wario as the 'Noid. Looks like in-game advertising struck it's first Nintendo game!

The stylus is great and all.... But I'm not really a fan of totally touch controlled games. They could just makes some really solid titles that don't use the touch screen at all. I'm not trying to play a game like Wario, or that new 2D Zelda entireley with the touch screen. While the touch screen might be cool for a game like that, Why can't I just get a standard control version of it? So much easier to play...

Koji himself, you could just buy a PSP...

I find it amazing that some people still refer to the DS's touch screen input as "gimmickry". The input mechanisms is a new and interesting way to play games. Not every DS title uses it and some only use it sparingly. The thing to note is that most of the highly rated DS games rely heavily on the touch screen.
As niels (#3) has already said, if you don't want touch screen games - maybe using a stylus is too close to actually writing and puts of the online, e-mailing elite? - then you can always get a PSP.
The bottom line is that the DS is outselling the PSP BECAUSE of the touch screen now rather than despite it. Do people really think that in light of this, developers are going to pass up using it?

People refer to the touch screen as a gimmick because in 90% of the games that incorporate it into gameplay, it is a gimmick.

the ds is outselling the psp BECAUSE there are many more people willing to play with rosy little princesses jumping on mushrooms than there are people willing to play dark bloody action shooters...thats why.

niels, How do you explain that logic with the success of the PS1 and PS2 over the N64 and Gamecube? People always critizing Nintendo for being too "kiddy", and now you're saying that's exactly what people want. Yet the more "mature" system in the past two generations has one out. How do you explain that?

The image posted above is supposed to show Wario flying with a gigantic purple cock poking out of his pants, right? I feel sorry/excited for that small harbor town.

oh thats because gamecube, ps1, and ps2 are home consoles and the ds and psp are portables. gamecube and ds essentially target the same audience, so does the ps2 and psp. apparently the ps2 audience is much less receptive to playing games on a portable. probably because these people are older and do not have much use for a portable...
the point is that the systems target different audiences, and the audiences are more or less receptive to playing portables...

"I find it amazing that some people still refer to the DS's touch screen input as "gimmickry"."
Well, look at who wrote the article. It wouldn't be a proper JRW Nintendo related post with at -least- a subtle dig at the big N now would it?

Anyone think the graphics look very Mega Man-esque? The Wario games have always had a visual style of their own, but I'm not sure I like this direction.
