Nerdcore Rising throws down with trailer
A documentary showcasing the darlings of white boy hip-hop, Nerdcore Rising takes you along for a ride with the "Godfather of Nerdcore" MC Frontalot on his first national tour. To the uninitiated, nerdcore is what happens when you splice hard rhymes about Dungeons & Dragons with smooth beats and less aggression than what passes for hip-hop today. It could very well be the soundtrack to our culture, and the film aims to set the record straight on the roots of the genre.
Making appearances in the trailer are Frontalot himself, MC Chris of Adult Swim fame, and geek gods Tycho and Gabe of Penny Arcade. Take pride in what you do and check out the trailer after the jump!
[Thanks, Frontalot!]

The best part was seeing Jello Biafra try to warn the dudes that they can get ensnared in their own stereotypical creation. I respect the effort but it's too 'unfunky' for me. Still, I hope they can carve a niche and make some loot along the way.

I like the idea of Nerdcore. Especially since hip hop has been dead for a while now, this might be fresh enough to resurrect it.
Personally though, I haven't heard enough of Frontalot to go and buy one of his albums. From the bits and pieces I've caught, I think his rhyming flow doesn't really apeal to me.
I do like MC Chris a lot, but it saddens me that his earlier works are no longer free to download from his website.

MC Frontalot can rhyme, but yeah, his flow on the majority of his songs don't sit right with me. Ah well, Weird Al's got his back.

I defy anyone to provide any real examples proving the "death" of hip-hop.

He must mean the radio crap. But artists like Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Madvillain, and Dr Octagon, keep pushing the genre in new and exciting directions.
Nerdcore on the other hand, is just awful.

Rap in any form is hard for me to listen to. Everyone learned to rhyme in kindergarten. Some people can rhyme better than others. It takes them acting like a fool to prove it too.

*I defy anyone to provide any real examples proving the "death" of hip-hop.*
Hip-hop is dead because only 2 types of hip-hop can break through and be heard on major outlets now: gansta rap and club-hop. During the first decade and a half of hip-hop all types could get play on radio and TV. You had NWA with the gansta shit you had the MC Hammer's and Fresh Prince's with the party/feel good vibes, and you even had Public Enemy dropping political songs on the radio. No matter what flavor you liked you new it was coming up in the rotation.
Now the only way for artist to get play on TV or even local radio is to drop a gansta rap track or stripper club song with Casio keyboard beats, recycled bling filled verses, and hooks that make NO fucking sense.
Hip-hop will come back to life when all types of hip-hop (even the ones I can't stand!) get equal exposure again.)
You now its bad when you listen to the radio and wonder why the DJ is playing the same track twice only to realize that its a clone rapper with a slightly differnt beat/hook.

Holy fuck.
Hip-hop like all music genres, has it's commercial side, the shyte you see on MTV, and it's good side, which you can easily get by listening to Sage, Aesop or Krush.
And as for nerdcore, fuck it, it's just for idiots who think nerds are are ugly glasses with bad dental hygiene.
