Finally! A Wii-proof lamp built to survive Wiisports
Looks like reports of Wii damage aren't going away anytime soon: people are still damaging their television sets, lamps, windows, pets, and selves as they flail about living rooms designed more for lounging than energetic indoor video games.
Rather than fight it, flow with it. The KNOCK-OFF LAMP's beautiful, white polyproylene exterior echoes the Wii aesthetic, and it's made to be knocked over. At just $22.00, it's also probably cheaper than non Wii-proof lamps, too.

That's real cute. So tell me, how many things have you broken with Wii remotes so far?
nintendoFREAK @ Jan 10th 2007 4:24PM
WTF bowling pin?
alexanderwales @ Jan 10th 2007 2:19AM
How is this in any way related to the Wii, or videogames in general? Sorry, I don't come to Joystiq for pictures of lamps.
dotmadhack @ Jan 10th 2007 3:14AM
I thought they fired this guy. Looks like VC is up to his good old nonsense yet again.
Xavier @ Jan 10th 2007 3:19AM
At first I thought... "What a dumb blog entry, wow, someone actually put this on Joystiq?" Then I remembered... "Oh yeah, I bet it's Vladimir Cole."
And I scrolled up and it was.
I call my extra-sensory perception "Vlad-dar." You can practice it at home too, just whenever you read something really stupid on Joystiq, say "I think that's probably Vlad Cole." Scroll up and if you're right, you as well will find that you too have Vlad-dar.
Fozzie @ Jan 10th 2007 3:35AM
Vladimir Cole is a bad writer and a terrible journalist. Why does he work for Joystiq again? Oh yeah -- because he sucks.
gman @ Jan 10th 2007 3:55AM
heyyy let's not bash joystiq because one writer can't pull his head out of his ass
Drewtang @ Jan 10th 2007 3:58AM
Jesus, you guys are a bunch of babies. It' just two paragraphs and a picture of a lamp.
BPM? @ Jan 10th 2007 4:14AM
I'd get ten of those lamps.
Sheesh. 8 replies, and noone comments on how they look like pins?!
Now you can do real Wii Sports Bowling with the Wiimote!
And, really? What's with all the VC (Vladimir Cole, not Virtual Console) hate? What did he do to you? Steal from you? Kick your puppy? Rape your mother? Kill your father?
tservo @ Jan 10th 2007 4:25AM
He raped my puppy and kicked my mother. You were close though.
Troy @ Jan 10th 2007 4:33AM
I think I've figured this guy out, he think's he's gonna be the next Howard Stern of internet blogging, b/c he loves to raise tempers vs. caring about what he's writing about...He could be a political blogger and do the same thing, just to raise tempers and attention. Dude, for real....Howard was a one time thing, you my friend, are not even a blogger, your just a frogger...(and here comes the truck filled with comments....::squash::) Get a life dude, you're three lives are up.
David Attenborough @ Jan 10th 2007 6:23AM
When they've run out of consoles to bash, these deranged residents of the internet turn towards the hand that feeds them.
These are the fanboys, a subspecies of Homo Sapien whose minds never mature past those of 12 year olds and whose mission it is to post rants about how their corporate entity of choice is a better corporate entity of choice than the others while using as little grammar, punctuation and English as possible.
Often it can be seen that, when Fanboys do not like the news they discover on the internet, they will instead attack the journalists who would tarnish their precious company's reputation and say they work for the company that is most in competition with their corporate entity of choice. This is a bizarre occurrence, and it is almost as if Fanboys expect some kind of status or recognition in return for accepting the free information posted by said journalists.

#1 - My GF's dad bonked our cat in the head. Honestly though, it was the cats fault for sitting directly behind him on the couch. He wasn't hurt though, just a little annoyed.
I'm guessing the lamp is too fragile to actually withstand flying objects, but it's amusing at any rate.
As an aside, the thought amuses me - How much of it is that Vlad works for MS and unwittingly finds fault in all things not MS, and how much is it that people know he works for MS and construe VC's statements about MS as being positive, and statements about Wii/PS3 as being negative?
But seriously, "haha, wiimotes break stuff" is stale. My own probably biased opinion is that either VC is hung up on Wii-hate, or is a bit out of the loop.

Well, I thought it looked like it would be kind of neat to have. A little ambient light on your coffee table, but after seeing other pictures, its light appears uneven, dim, and there is a cord attached that I wouldn't drape across my living room. Seems to be a good gift for a bowler, but not much else.

White Rose Duelist @ Jan 10th 2007 11:14AM
Forget 10 - I want 91 of them to do Power Throws on!
This still has nothing to do with the Wii, but I suspect Vlad gets a kick out of all these replies.

PS. i'm disturbed by the amount of anger on joystiq. all you nerds need to blow off some steam. get some exercise. it's all the rage these days. get off the couch. maybe the right wingers are right - violent video games breed violent people.
number40one @ Jan 10th 2007 3:07PM
Children, calm down.
Cool lamp. I can't decide if I want two or three.
spaceboy @ Jan 11th 2007 9:52AM
you're right. this product does have nothing to do with nintendo. it was designed several years ago by Josh Owen, a modern industrial designer in Philadelphia. how do i know this? he taught industrial design at my college. here is his website:

For some reason I have a really hard time believing that Vlad is the senior editor here.
but then again Blake is a nintendo fanboy from inferno, and no one seems to complain when he bashes Sony or MS.
Zegim @ Jan 10th 2007 6:51PM
#11 said it best.
These lamps look so... futuristic? That's What I thought.
Mizz @ Jan 11th 2007 6:04PM
what kind of dummy`s would need that? i played the wii many hours and never even dropped the remote talk about people smashing lamps lol stupid people who make nintendo spend thousands on new straps due to crap commercialism, while the original strap works great for me vc=bmf bored mutha fukka
