why can't MS just release an HDMI adaptor/cable for use with the existing multi AV out port? I'm not at all familiar with the specs of that port.. does anyone know if it can provide a digital output? or is the video signal purely analog? any experts out there?

I'm not an expert but I believe I read that they can do that. And they probably will. One end plugs into your 360 and the other end into your TVs HDMI port. Simple. They don't need a port to be built into the 360, just the cable.

Ahem, Microsoft doesn't want to give you what you want regardless of how much you are willing to pay for it. Facts are, people were more willing to pay $400 than $300 for a 360. Fact, Sony proved some were willing to pay $600 for a video console.

Why not just integrate the dang HD DVD drive, offer HDMI, and sell the thing for $600? I am betting they would find plenty of buyers, quash those complaining about not having HDMI (me), etc., etc., etc.

no, this will be released, they're just waiting for the 65nm revision for the processor. once that baby gets into full swing, expect this in stores. i kind of see GhostDoggy's vision being put into play. we all heard rumors of a media-centric 360 back in the day. here it might be.

then again, by that time, 360 may need a price drop. make this 400, drop the price to 300/give the core a hdd, you may have a winner here. but i'm no economist, just speculating.

and i used to think 360 could output digital, but it's looking now that it's analog only output. i mean, ms has had plenty of reason to release an hdmi cable. why would they not have? i mean, they released vga, which is more obscure (in a console/home theater sense). which kinda sucks, but oh well, i guess. by the time i get an hdtv, xbox 420 will be out or i will have the cash to pick up an "xbox threesixty".

Realistically, I could care less about HDMI on the 360, but not very much less. On the other hand, I am really concerned about HD space, and the reason is one Microsoft ought to take into account.

They have all sorts of interesting downloadable content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and I would be more likely to buy MS points to spend on the Marketplace if I wasn't so concerned about running out of HD space. Sure, I can always re-download items I have paid for and deleted to save space, but as the owner of a 40GB iPod that I have to constantly juggle because my music library is over 40GB (I have around 600 purchased CDs, plus content purchased from iTunes), I am reluctant to build yet another collection that threatens to rapidly become far larger than the container I plan to store it in!

It's not like hard drives larger than 20GB are hard to find - why did Microsoft think it was a smart idea to tell its customers another version of the apocryphal "640K ought to be enough for anybody*"

*I know, Bill Gates never really said that, but MS does appear to be insisting, "20 GB ought to be enough for anybody," don't they?
